when I run, my breath is in the rhythm of the song that plays during the minigames in bowsers body either the music is stuck in my head or the music was composed with breathing patterns in mind
The visual of bowser's castle sll bandaged up after the beating it took is very funny in a surreal way. Midbus must really care about it. I wonder if bowser eould fo the same? (Of course he would) The road to bowsers castle is another place i wishe had more variety in enemies. Broque monsieur continues to devolve further. I dont know if he could get anymore french at this point You know bowser, you could just step off the conveyor to talk with your minions. That scene got a good laugh out of me. Bowsers doing more damage to his castle than fawful is
You just know that some kid that was worse at Mario and Luigi than even Chugga thought that flaming up the save blocks was a faster way to save, and thought the saves just didn't work sometimes (which would explain why they added the Reset Clocks to hotfix the buggy code of the game)
One of the things I remember is that for the Chain Chomps, when the Parasite buries itself, you can use fire to force it out cause of the extreme heat Chugga had mentioned. Dont know why that's in my memory, probably because of the easy defeat being used when backtracking/wandering around post game.
*Outside the entrance to Bowser's Castle* Bowser: Finally, at long last! I'm back at my castle. Goomther: It feels like it's been forever since we were last here. Shy Guy (Shawn): Speak for yourself. My men and I were locked up just out of sight of the castle, almost as a way to taunt us. Goomther: Regardless, I'm glad you guys are alright. It's good to see you again, Shawn. Shawn: You too, Goomther. Say, where's the rest of the squads? Goomther: No idea. Fawful must have hidden them all across the Mushroom Kingdom to keep any loyalists away. Bowser: We're find them all, don't you worry one bit. For now, time to storm the castle and punch that laughing jerk in the face! Shawn: SHOO-RAH! Goomther: Forward march! Bowser: Chippy, write this down, will you? Starlow: Right away. Starlow's Log Day 12: We finally made it to the doorsteps of Bowser's Castle, though the road there was far from easy. We rescued the Shy Guy Squad, granting Bowser a new move to perform where the Shy Guys slingshot him into the enemies. The areas surrounding the castle were guarded by Fawfulcopters and Chain Chawfuls, however, something was off about the latter. Whenever Bowser inhaled the 'Fawful-Worm' on their heads, they seemed to run away from the fight. Call it a hunch, but it appears Fawful has used some sort of mind control on Bowser's minion, which has allowed him to amass an army to attack the Mushroom Kingdom. This guy seems like a bigger threat than we initially thought. I hope Bowser is able to defeat him, or else we're all doomed. Oh, and also Bowser chucked a cannonball at his castle to bring it down. Starlow: Done. Bowser: Good. Now then, CHARGE! *Bowser and his minions rush inside prepared for a fight*
Bowser: This is for taking over my castle! Trapping my troops! And controlling my Chain Chomps, my _poor babies!_ Midbus: And yet, we saw you kill some of them. Some pet owner you are! Hah! Bowser: At least I gave them merciful deaths! But now, it’s time he finds out how I _feel_ when I do the same to you, without the mercy! *(Resumes charging in for battle)*

I absolutely love this little series you do here in the comments. Adds a bit of depth and time passing as well to make it seem like it's taking days to complete and not just having this whole adventure be in one day. If anything it adds a bit of specialness that kids would have since they would actually take days upon days to complete this game instead of us adults speeding through it in a few hours.
I don’t like leveling up the same stats for both bros, I understand why some people do it, but it takes away what makes each bro special, I love Mario being the speedy grass canon, and Luigi being the dedicated tank is fitting for him cause he’s the most abused Mario character ever, that’s just my 2 cents
I'd like to know who would intentionally try to make Mario tankier than Luigi, how they managed it and why they would even do so as adults in a series where no damage runs is entirely a skill issue?
8:55 I’m surprised you know that Droid’s quote very much as I do. I always loved that quote when I heard it in a DVD menu where one says it twice in a row! “Roger roger!” _”Roger Roger!”_
A little tip for what I do to get excellents for Bowser’s punch attack, after choosing it, I typically count to three before hitting the button and that usually helps me get excellent for it.
Usually my personal cue for the fist attack is RIGHT as his head raises back slightly. Equally for fire, the moment he forms both fists. Gets excellent for both very consistently.
The last push to Bowser Castle is pretty memorable to me. Not only do we acquire the Shy Guy Squad (or y’know, choose to free them), but then we have the final Arm Center segment to repel the giant cannonball back at the Castle. Weird how Midbus thinks that would work given the Giant fight just a bit ago. With the structure finally neutralized, we can finally get in there and see what’s up (and I’ll be gushing all about that next time)
yeah the arm minigame from this point on if i remember is NEVER used for the rest of the game compared to the shoot 'em up one which is used several times during the story....and then there was the stomach minigame which is only done once and then never shows up again for the rest of the campaign (there's a couple other minigames but those have yet to show up)
And thus, we see the last time that the Arm Center mini game was ever used. Something I always thought is that I wish these body part mini games were available in the challenge node as some sort of an endless thing to see how high of a score you can get because some of them are really fun and it’s a shame that some of them are used so little. Progress Report: Still at the same spot that I was. Didn’t get a chance to play further yesterday.
5:54 So, that sound the Shy Guys make always sounded like "Thank You" to me So, during the move, it sounds like they are chanting- THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU -with each push They are just so grateful to be pushing Bowser (Also, the slingshot rope clips through the Shy Guys)
Man, Midbus talks mad shit about Bowser being dishonorable for a guy whos one win thus far was while Bowser was exhausted, unable to breathe flames, and recovering deom the vacuum shroom. Every time hes faced him since hes gone with the most underhanded, cheap tricks he could use; attacking the King of Koopas with artillery or dropping the damn castle on his head.
02:45 I think you can sneak in a punch there after it jumps on you. Has to be on the last jump though. 02:52 WHAT?! I've never seen that! I have literally never used fire breath on a Chain Chawful in my life, and I've played through this game well over ten times. 05:25 That sign you skipped back there says something akin to that, yes, being another fitness fad. 08:22 It does not have any attacks, actually (though it does have 38 POW for some reason), because summoning more Chain Chawfuls is its only purpose. 11:54 In the German version, he says something like "Bowser thinks he's landing a coup? Bah!" to which the Koopa responds. 12:56 Sadly enough, this is the last time we play the Arm Center minigame. :c One thing I cannot praise enough about that minigame is the sound design; both the music as well as the sound effects combine for just the most amazingly satisfying sound experience.
A detail about the flame breath reaction on the Chain Chawful that he didn’t mention is that if the worm is ducked down inside the chain chomp when you use fire, it forces it back out due to the intense heat you create inside
I've loved the Chain Chawfuls since I was a kid first playing this game. I had NO clue what a Sworm was, I just saw these random parasitic worms boring through the skulls of Chain Chomps and piloting them like mechs and was immediately hooked on the implications. Did Fawful import Sworms from his homeland...?
I don’t know why but this particular rhythm game will always be the most iconic minigame moment (after the carrot and its trauma) for me. There was just something so satisfying about the rhythm and lifting up that giant ball. It’s because of this minigame I can’t listen to the minigame music without the thwonk thwonk
I've been feeling bad for a while recently and today has added to it with some pain and discomfort, so I'm really glad I'm catching the video now when my food just finished to feel better with. Emile has always been a comfort he was the first lp channel I watched when young and I've stuck by who knows how many years at this point
Soo because Chugga hasn't brought up how the arm game fully works yet and even seemed worried I'd like to explain something. YOU MUST do the mini game perfectly. By that I mean if you ever miss a beat for the string they give you then you must do it over again. That's why it can feel longer than it is at times because even if you only miss one in the string you're forced to redo it till you get it right, the pattern won't change either.
"SUPER ULTRA WONDER ULTIMATE RUTHLESS GREAT IRON BALL!" I was waiting for this one. I love it when Midbus just mashes the A button repeatedly to form words.
Your playthrough has brightened my days ever since you started uploading. And I cannot thank you enough. I cannot WAIT to see you encounter the later areas.
I'm really glad we got this upload today. I just found out my cat died this morning and these uploads always bring a smile to my face. Thank you chugga. I hope you don't mind if I personally dedicate this video to bandit. May he rest in piece.
I'd like to know who took the time to drill holes into the Chain Chomp's heads so they could be Fawfulized. Unless the worms ate their way through solid steel, which... yikes.
(SPOILER) Fun fact: if you decide to leave the goombas and shyguys in their cages but come back and talk to them as the mario bros you'll see special dialog from them.
I think this might need hacks or the remake. Earlier Emile accidentally tried walking past the Goombas and got stopped by the game and I think that happens again with the Shy Guys. I know after this you can skip every other minion and not get stopped by the game.
So if I remember correctly, when the worm is in the chain chomp if you use fire it forces it to pop back out, that's why the chomp glows to show its too hot to be in 3:01
Also I like the arm center minigame for this event specifically because it's one of the only times the green energy ball makes Bowser stronger, all the others always use the red one.
I don't know if anyone else mentioned this, but the 'fodder' enemy at 3:44 has one of my favorite attacks. I'm looking forward to seeing that whenever we inevitably get into a fight with one.
For all the tutorial design and the fact that the game so deeply indicates what the player can do despite that... despite that, there still ended up being one spot that brought my playthrough to a halt as a kid. I put hours into a single puzzle, didn't understand the main premise of it, and because of that, I had to put down the game for a few years until I remembered and came back down to it a ways down the line. We're a good bit off from where that is, but I remember coming back to this game after that hiatus and realizing it was one of the easiest puzzles imaginable. Go figure.
I just love how Bowser and Midbus are talking to each other in their normal voices despite them being a fair distance from one another. Just imagine them shouting at each other incredibly loudly just because they're too far away to hear one another otherwise
When I played this game when I was younger, I somehow never clocked that the arm muscle minigame was a _rhythm_ game, and tried to do it all visually. As you can imagine, it was an absolute nightmare. Playing along now, I'm first trying basically every section of it, because of you mentioning that it's a rhythm game. And I love rhythm games. No idea why I didn't notice it first go around, but it's much easier than trying to visually keep track of each ball of light.
Your tutorial rant is spot on. Something weird happened with those, like did they forget which parts had already been said? I still hate the minigames-only progression, though. And the excessive tutorials add onto it.
8:55 it isn't just one robot that does that, all the bots with that design (B1-Battle Droids) say Roger Roger as a way to confirm that they have processed an order to other non-droids.
when the fawful worms go inside the chain chomp, you can use your flame to bring them back out to do more damage, when they're hunkered down inside the chain chomp, they have a higher defense and take last damage
4:17 Shy Guy Squad is one of my favorite special attacks. Hella strong single attack. Always excellent with the stylus. And I love the noise the Shy Guys make 😂
fire is technically useful on chain chawfuls only if you want to end the fight faster. You just have to use it when the sworm (yes, that's its name) hides inside the chain chomp and the heat will force it out making it vulnerable to vaccum again.
You know you have a good game when even its bad traits have something going for them; there may be wayyyy too many tutorials, but at least they tried to put some wit into them and keep it within the game's mood.
11:00 I will admit, I got stuck at this part for years, simply because I refused to look up what I was supposed to do... I would always wander around, wonder why I couldn't find anything, backtrack to previous levels, come back, then give up since I felt I explored everywhere already. I'm glad to hear you say it's not all clear, cause this part definitely annoyed me lol
The Shy Guy Squad was my main Bowser attack for most of the game mainly because the action command was the only one I could get consistently until the last one in the game.
Watched your LPs a decade ago growing up, it’s surreal that I’m waking up and getting excited for a new episode again after all this time. Long time fan and this series has been awesome. Thank you for the years of dedication Chugga ✊🏼
A glitch I found in my copy, back in the day: When you have a stat boosting equipment on, & you increase a stat via level up, while it increases your stats by a percentage... The stat bonuses are from a set number you get upon leveling up, despite being randomized as well: Because it works on a roulette, the game does not know any better, & INSTEAD LOWERS YOUR STATS upon removing the stat boosting equipment by a certain percentage as well! Always be careful when using stat boosting equipment as well when it says percentages as well!
now that i think about it, i think the arm center was what made me love rhythm games so much i also love how this arm center game implies bowser is stronger than a giant cannon
Chain Chawfuls being Bowser's guard dogs that have worms is a harrowing thought... I respect the commitment to the game theming, I suppose, poor doggies
The Chain Chawful stops attacking if you land any counterattack on it. Kinda a random change in the remake, the Chain Chawful takes damage when you block its jump attack with the shell defense. So if you block its first attack, it won't do its sequential attacks. Which kinda defeats the purpose of remembering all its tells

In the Remake : Sucking up the worms from the chain chomps gives you 30 HP and 10BP whenever you suck it up. And I believe actual EXP as well.
Something missed: If you use flame on Chain Chawfuls when they’re hiding in the Chain Chomps, your fire will force them out of their mole holes.
when I run, my breath is in the rhythm of the song that plays during the minigames in bowsers body either the music is stuck in my head or the music was composed with breathing patterns in mind
The visual of bowser's castle sll bandaged up after the beating it took is very funny in a surreal way. Midbus must really care about it. I wonder if bowser eould fo the same? (Of course he would)
The road to bowsers castle is another place i wishe had more variety in enemies.
Broque monsieur continues to devolve further. I dont know if he could get anymore french at this point
You know bowser, you could just step off the conveyor to talk with your minions.
*Outside the entrance to Bowser's Castle*
Bowser: Finally, at long last!
I was waiting for this. Now to get that sweet news report...
Bowser: This is for taking over my castle! Trapping my troops! And controlling my Chain Chomps, my _poor babies!_
Midbus: And yet, we saw you kill some of them. Some pet owner you are! Hah!
Bowser: At least I gave them merciful deaths! But now, it’s time he finds out how I _feel_ when I do the same to you, without the mercy!
*(Resumes charging in for battle)*
News Ticker 11
Gooby: Huh. Why do I have this- *ACHOO* Feeling... *sniff* like someone is thinking about me...
Captain Goomba: Keep your head, Gooby. Show that minion spirit you got!
Gooby: ON IT, SIR!
Captain Shy Guy: Wow. He has been a lot more focused with his apprentice. I wonder how the others are doing.
Captain Boo: We trained the different squads. Captain had the goomba and bob omb divisions, you had shy guys and boomerang, Koopa had the remaining shell troops, and I had all the dead to train.
Captain Shy Guy: Of course, Kamek had the entire magikoopa team, but even he hasn't been sighted for a while.
???: ANIKI!!!!
Captain Boo: Who the what now?
Shy guy: Aniki, we finally see each other again!
Captain goomba: You know him?
Gooby: Marx! How's it been!
Captain Shy Guy: I told you, we aren't the mafia. And I am only your trainer, so don't call me aniki!
Captain Koopa: Are shy guys fluent in Japanese?
Captain Shy Guy: Shouldn't most of the army be fluent in several languages, especially italianese?
Captain Koopa: Guess that al-
*tonk*
Gooby: Low blow, Flag Koopa. Can't make that joke.
Marx: Anyways. Bowser saved the Shy Guy division! Oh, and you should read the news. It says "Gold rings appear on influx. Apparently the king lakitu populations has been dwindling after reports of Bowser showing up. He's been inhaling Lakitu and spitting them up. One witness says, 'It was dark in the stomach of Bowser. All of a sudden you here a power up and fire balls fly right at you.' The economy has never been better. Loads of golden rings." You get the gist of it.
Captain Boo: Was Lord Bowser desparate for money?
Captain Goomba: He lost his castle. He's probably heading there right now.
@@yokai59loi36 There we go, I was waiting for this.
@@artofthepossible7329 as a kid I fed literally all my beans to mario and he was serving both purposes
I just love the gag with bowser in the treadmill like walkway. I always love when games get the time to add those small little touches
Chain chawfuls are not "impervious" to fire, it is a contextual thing, if they're ducked inside the body, you flame them to get them out
8:55 I’m surprised you know that Droid’s quote very much as I do. I always loved that quote when I heard it in a DVD menu where one says it twice in a row!
“Roger roger!” _”Roger Roger!”_
Well do I remember the chatter of the B1 battle-droid. The OT is still king, but the prequels still have their good parts.
Funny how when bowser does the shy guy brawl attack he can form a spike ball but then later on he acts like he never does it before
Makes me wonder if that special move was reshuffled at some point from late game to mid-game.
I feel like maybe he was always able to turn into the spike ball, though was just never able to move around in it himself until then.
15:41 Seeing it again, that moment of sadness Bowser has just before steeling his resolve to reclaim his castle seems weirdly poignant.
A neat detail with the Chain Chawfuls is the fact that the worm inside them is actually a returning enemy from Superstar Saga, called a Sworm!
This Arm Center gets really tough! I remember in one play through, my brother and I would tag team this. One would take A and the other would take B.
With the structure finally neutralized, we can finally get in there and see what’s up (and I’ll be gushing all about that next time)
yeah the arm minigame from this point on if i remember is NEVER used for the rest of the game
compared to the shoot 'em up one which is used several times during the story....and then there was the stomach minigame which is only done once and then never shows up again for the rest of the campaign (there's a couple other minigames but those have yet to show up)
And thus, we see the last time that the Arm Center mini game was ever used.
Shy Guy Squad is probably my second favorite move for Bowser. Best one for now.
I think if the worm ducks into the Chain Chawful, you can use fire to heat it up so it pops out so you can suck it up
5:54 So, that sound the Shy Guys make always sounded like "Thank You" to me
So, during the move, it sounds like they are chanting-
THANK
YOU
THANK
YOU
THANK
YOU
-with each push
They are just so grateful to be pushing Bowser
(Also, the slingshot rope clips through the Shy Guys)
5:09 I find that scene with Bowser and the Shy Guys funnier then I probably should.
4:41 one of the best moves in the game for style and power
That attack is terrifying imo when you play as Mario and Luigi.
@ hehehe. Turtle go CLONK
One thing I cannot praise enough about that minigame is the sound design; both the music as well as the sound effects combine for just the most amazingly satisfying sound experience.
"When it tries to call for enemies. it get's muffled by the fat"
Boyo, that right there is 100% KINGLY KOOPA MUSCLE!
Bowser’s castle having an arm sling after it gets half-destroyed is peak comedy.
fun fact: saving the shy guys actually has consequences later in the game!
Interesting. So that fight actually doesn’t have them if you don’t free them?
The koopa road to the end game is paved with fantastic mini games
So if my memory serves me, the chain chomp flows cause if the worm is hiding it'll come out to be vacuumed next turn
That minigame music really reminds me of Kingdom Hearts 2's gummy mission music. It's that Shimamura vibe!
I wish Koopa’s Road from Super Mario 64 would get a remix in this game.
0:34 I was caught off guard by that.
I know, right? An arrangement by Yoko Shimomura would have been such a great callback.
@@ChuckFinley-m5eI was referring to Emile using “Ohonhonhonhonhon” for Broque Monsieur.
@@ChuckFinley-m5ejust imagine how hard it would go.
7:47 “Two for the price of one grandma”… ah such nostalgic words
04:58 missed opportunity to have Bowser's voice fade out everytime he gets dragged of by the treadmill.
"SUPER ULTRA WONDER ULTIMATE RUTHLESS GREAT IRON BALL!"
I was waiting for this one. I love it when Midbus just mashes the A button repeatedly to form words.
Your playthrough has brightened my days ever since you started uploading. And I cannot thank you enough.
I cannot WAIT to see you encounter the later areas.
9:07
Bowser: “Not that it matters seeing YOU WEREN’T INVITED!!”
5:12 he didn’t. I’m pretty sure fawful probably added those. Hence why he has “custom” bowser minions as enemies there.
Those poor Chain Chomps will forever have a hole in their head now
I'm really glad we got this upload today. I just found out my cat died this morning and these uploads always bring a smile to my face. Thank you chugga. I hope you don't mind if I personally dedicate this video to bandit. May he rest in piece.
@@isaacspeed3765 You have my condolences.
I'd like to know who took the time to drill holes into the Chain Chomp's heads so they could be Fawfulized.
Unless the worms ate their way through solid steel, which... yikes.
Bowser's castle has seen better days.
The fact I’ve been hearing you say “two for the price of a one grandma” since paper Mario the thousand year door and sunshine
Here we go!!! Was waiting for YT to give this to me, AND I'M SO HAPPY
not first
@ResettihatesPeopleCheat Okay?
(4:34) I like the Nigel Thornberry-esque voice that Chuggaa gave the Shy Guys.
Sounded more Squidward to me
So if I remember correctly, when the worm is in the chain chomp if you use fire it forces it to pop back out, that's why the chomp glows to show its too hot to be in 3:01
THE ONE TIME Chuggaa doesn't mock luigi's laugh, is the only time I've mocked it. You got me this time
Also I like the arm center minigame for this event specifically because it's one of the only times the green energy ball makes Bowser stronger, all the others always use the red one.
I don't know if anyone else mentioned this, but the 'fodder' enemy at 3:44 has one of my favorite attacks. I'm looking forward to seeing that whenever we inevitably get into a fight with one.
Mibus comes across as a huge coward, the way he keeps running away from bowser
For all the tutorial design and the fact that the game so deeply indicates what the player can do despite that... despite that, there still ended up being one spot that brought my playthrough to a halt as a kid. I put hours into a single puzzle, didn't understand the main premise of it, and because of that, I had to put down the game for a few years until I remembered and came back down to it a ways down the line.
We're a good bit off from where that is, but I remember coming back to this game after that hiatus and realizing it was one of the easiest puzzles imaginable. Go figure.
Was it the Energy Hold?
A fun thing you missed for the 3ds remake is that the chain chawfuls can actually take damage when they jump on Bowser's shell.
5:27 Yes. Its expained on the sign you just passed.
the heat in the chain chomps after you blow flames on them makes the worms poke their heads out in order to not get cooked alive.
when the fawful worms go inside the chain chomp, you can use your flame to bring them back out to do more damage, when they're hunkered down inside the chain chomp, they have a higher defense and take last damage
0:17 Bowser turning and staring into my soul for the "You should be ashamed" was perfect.
The tutorials in this game are almost entirely skippable aside from the ones relaying new modes of gameplay and I always appreciated the practice.
Yes. In fact, the tutorials are more of a problem in Dream Team than this game.
5:20 I love how you say this as you walk past the sign that explains it's the kingdom's latest fad
That attempt in the arms center was like my attempt at Florall Island in Brothership.
now that i think about it, i think the arm center was what made me love rhythm games so much
i also love how this arm center game implies bowser is stronger than a giant cannon
4:00 Power Band suits Bowser.
7:57 That Fawfulcopter is a good one. Love the wordplay.
Chain Chawfuls being Bowser's guard dogs that have worms is a harrowing thought... I respect the commitment to the game theming, I suppose, poor doggies
When breathing fire on the chain chawful when the thing is hiding, it causes it to come out and not gk back into hiding
2:47 Chugga: "So this enemy is impervious to fire."
The enemy: *takes damage from the fire*
Impervious means immune. ???
A little detail I like is when Bowser inhales an enemy for the Bros to fight, he holds his belly with his hand. It's like he can feel what's going on inside him.
