If award shows were all about merit then nobody would care what people are wearing, but I feel like with Grammys and Oscars and all that kinda bs there is more coverage about who wore what than the actual awards lol.
You're absolutely right? When was the last time an artist was asked about where he was when he or she wrote that song instead of "Gorgeous dress! Who is it from?". It's not only the clothes, it seems like *everything* else has become more important (and defines who wins what).

That Dream Theatre grammy was like Leonardo Dicaprio's first Oscar for best male lead (I think that's what it was anyways); he probably deserved to win one on multiple occasions, but the one they finally gave it to him for wasn't close to his best film or performance. Ironic.

My wife and I suffered through most of the grammies and we both wondered, why is there no rock on the show? It's all just pop, rap dreck. Even the token country stuff is lame. None of the music had any guts to it. Sad, really.
Spiritbox is the youngest band right? Is it me or is it sad that the youngest group in the metal category are in their mid 30s? I'm happy to see them, but the lack of young blood is a bit concerning.

There is good young bands coming up they just didn't get pushed as hard on the metal radio channels like Spirit box has been recently it seems they get played every other song on octane and liquid metal
It takes a long time (for most) to become truly proficient on your instrument, especially when you're playing challenging music

Everybody votes in the general categories so it makes sense that pop music tends to dominate in those categories. By design its supposed to be bland and broad appealing. That is why a lot of times when rock or hip-hop when AOTY they tend to be very poppy versions. Something like Metallica, Nirvana, Nas, Kendrick, is at a disadvantage to win AOTY because they are not poppy enough despite being very popular in their own right. The only exception to this is sometimes Jazz musicians like Jon Batiste, and Herbie Hancock will win. That is because there is over 90 something categories and nearly half of them comprise of "Fine Art School" genres of music like classical, orchestral, jazz, etc. Thus, those people make up a massive voting block within the Grammys voter base, and can get their own some wins despite not being mainstream. Rock and Hip-hop do not have enough categories, people voting for them to pull that off.

I only watched the premier event because I wanted to see if Foo Fighters would win anything for their latest album. Dave didn't do his usual press blitz to promote it which could have been a factor. boygenius and Paramore shut them out. IDGAF about any of the pop stuff, so watching the main show was not going to happen.
