Rainer Hersch introduces the Philharmonia Orchestra's 'recorder section'. Performed live at the Royal Festival Hall, London. Descant recorders don't deserve such a bad rep, but they have got one and that's that.

My art teachers were always telling me that first I had to learn it right so after graduation I could do it wrong on purpose claiming I'm an artist.
They lied. Start the way you mean to carry on.
@@RainerHerschUA-cam Thanks for replying, dear Maestro!
I shall then proceed. Kindly cover thy ears now...
Both the build-up and the performance is comedy gold! 🤣🤣
my teachers in primary school had some weird humor:
they placed detention and the recorder-class in the same room - at the same time.
needless to say: there were no persistant offenders...
edit: even i behaved after first detention...
That smacks of psycological warfare
Comedy gold... as a recorder player (descant, treble and tenor) I hoped to hear something proper, but I laughed so hard when they played.
I did not realize that orchestra humor existed until I was drawn here through videos of Victor Borge. Wow!
The recorder, like any musical instrument, is capable of producing sublime beauty or being treated as a joke.
Listen to many of the works of Baroque masters and you will find how wonderful can be the music of the instruments of the recorder/blok flüte family.
And this was
recorded
just for us to enjoy. Thanks! :)
Thank you too!
ISWYDT 😎
Aww. I used to play a clarinet at school. I squeaked a lot.
Lovely to see such an excellent cast…. And so many older stars still getting the roles … about time too xx
A beginner plays poorly naturally, a seasoned professional finds playing poorly difficult. Wish I was in the second group. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to a new season of postings.
all art is subjective
other than this godly masterpiece, this is unanimously the greatest music ever, and you can’t argue with that
😂😂😂 I was expecting something different hahaha. Congratulations, a great joke that made me remember my days at elementary school 😂😂😂😂
And now the broken recorder meme has become a sensation on UA-cam, providing tons of entertainment 🤣🤣👍🏻👍🏻
I still have the humble recorder for the past 40 years after leaving school. I don’t know why but I still polish it quite often. 😅
We missed your videos !! Where have you been!!!
love the concept of music and comedy, a good one. super cool.
God that was so bad it was brilliant memories of music lessons at school, and no i am not joking, brilliant Rainer pure genius, you should take up music you have talent regards and respect Steve Birmingham best for 2023
lmao Rainer.
Hearing the ensemble playing, I can't help thinking of Eddie Izzard. "The school band will now murder 'O Come, All Ye Faithful'. The song has been arranged with, er... no real care..." 😀
I suddenly heard in my head Spike Jones introducing his rendition of the "Poet and Peasant Overture" by asking the audience to bear with him in case his orchestra falls apart. He then closes with, "Good luck" before beginning to conduct.
I have one recorder! 😅
Picasso Stars..
😂😂🤣😂😂😂
- and if You come across this Mr Rainer; I'm Laughing WITH You Sir,.🙏
No one gives the glockenspiel (bells) any love either... Went through high school being treated like a percussionist wannabe, because of bad bell playing stygmas often carried from elementary music classes. But I'd never change to another instrement. You need us for Carol of Bells, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies, 1812 Overture, and any John Williams piece that highlights every orchestral instrement type.
But really... Glocks have the beautiful sustained high-tones that make you appreicate the lack of an annoying piccilo in your ensamble. :D
Are you out there Gillian Titmuss? Do you remember our duet? Ah, fond memories
U Can Full Concert of Rainer Hersch at Royal Festival Hall. please?
Or nose! Lol
Here before the recorder gang.
Hahaha. I am braced for the hate mail.
@@RainerHerschUA-cam As a recorder player, all I can says is ... can you do ukuleles next?
They also play the triangle
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I played clarinet in 5th Grade (Year 6) band. Dropped out because I hardly practiced and always forgot to ask my parents to get me more reeds. They were quite expensive, from my recollection. A year or two later I got a small Casio electronic keyboard for Christmas and played that thing a good bit. I eventually quit playing with it and donated it to a thrift store.
...whoever bought it at the thrift store has probably donated it back by now.
@@RainerHerschUA-cam No doubt. Probably sitting in the bottom of some ocean. I had that thing back in the early to mid 1990s. I was in the 5th Grade band in 1990-1991.
Rainer you do not upload enough content. Please more..
Arranging music. Concert preparation. Plugging venues.. just a few thoughts.
Thanks. Hope to be doing more in 2023. One a month.
Tape Recorder: What your parents did when you wouldn't stop trying to play it along to "Video Killed the Radio Star," "Thriller" and "Born to be Wild" . . .
I play the recorder occasionally at church. It just have a way too narrow range.
Well it can go higher if you do the half thumb thingy but it kinda hurts your thumbs if you play for a long time and you have to practice for a long time to get the jump right everytime.
So in the end, I kinda only play the songs when I don't need to do that, and that's not many songs to choose from, therefore I don't play very often.
The recorder doesn't have too narrow a range; you have too narrow a range. Take some lessons and you'll find that you have two full chromatic octaves under your fingers. Less than a flute, but good enough for Handel, Bach, Vivaldi ...
We didn’t have recorders in elementary school but I learned in jr or sr high school but mine are pear wood.
Wow, classy. Do pear wood ones still squeak?
@@RainerHerschUA-cam No. I haven’t been able to squeak it. The choir teacher in high school wanted a recorder quartet for madrigal choir but there was no other interest .
Silly, not "funny".
Why is the precise note so bloody hard to hold without an octave switch on a bleeding recorder?
It's not. They are blowing too hard for comedy effect.
