Just wanted to share that I used this product after watching your helpful video. I'd started with the thinner 'Bitumen Paint' but this didn't do the job. I follower it up with 2 coats of this 'All Weather Roof Coating', and, fingers crossed it is holding up however one issue was: one of the problems with my roof is there's a lot of pooling of water - this product says that it will be resistant to rain almost immediately but the problem is that in the areas of my roof where the water pools, the paint has also run into these areas so is thicker. The paint may be showerproof instantly but where the water pools the paint has split to some extent - it still seems to be holding the water off but once it's dry I'm going to give it another coat of paint. I used a tar brush which was quick, but it might have gone on a bit too thick to dry quickly.
2 years later, how did the roof hold out over time? I have a gentle pitched roof, no current leaks and was thinking to do this to buy me another few years till I am ready too properly re felt? Cheers

Hi Daniel, aware this was 2 years ago, just wondered how it’s still holding up? Felted my new shed I built from scratch last year, just had a massive down pour and noticed floor wet pretty much along where there beams run front to back. Layer felt across beams opposite way.
I had the same issue with my roof before water was going through the felt but I corrugated it instead after for long term protection. Just curious did this work did it do the job you brought it for?? I've got a flat roof at the front of the house, although its not leaking its got stone chippings on but looks like its been up there awhile. I'm going to wait until the better weather and coat the roof before putting stone back on, I'm wondering wether to use this or not? Thanks for sharing your thoughts
it did work, and we did consider corrugated but at the time i didn't have the money to do it but corrugated is best long term so you've done a good thing.
@@DanielJohnHowTo it was only a small area i corrugated but I would have had to reconsider if a larger area like you say it would have been more costly. Thanks, I will look into this product when the weather picks up 👍
would you recommend stripping back old felt first or just paint this stuff over the top? I have an old shed with felt that is in ok condition, but has started to go brittle and flake. I was wondering if paint straight over would be ok or if I should smooth it back slightly first. What do you think?
I would either brush the old stuff then use black jack, as it will adhere better and fill holes but really if the felt is that bad then consider replacing it.
I'm getting a new shed delivered soon, I'm thinking about coating the roof before applying the felt as the felt supplied is probably going to be thin, or should I just buy thicker felt?
coating the boards isn't a bad idea as it will stop the wood for rotting, you can lay the felt and paint this over. thicker felt would be better but we paid for good quality stuff and it didn't last that long.
I had the same problem in my kitchen flat roof leaking I'm going to buy 5l then paint the whole roof hopefully should sort my leak But the only problem is UK bad weather
Hi Daniel, do you think this would work on gravel asphalt roof. our roof has gravel stuck with tar and perhaps i could scrape the grave out. i am trying to patch a leaking kitchen roof
Iv just used most of a can 4+ litres. Didn’t find any fibrous material in it. Are you sure it wasn’t consolidations of solids that needed more stirring to break them up and disperse them into the liquid? Just wondering if one of us has a dodgy can?
it's funny you mention that because i have purchased two tins of this stuff recently which is a long time since making the video and didn't notice any little bits this time either. Perhaps it was a dodgy tin or they changed something, not 100%
Daniel thanks for the reply. You may be right about them changing it. Iv seen some types in other videos still of the black jack brand which do have fibres to reinforce it and stop cracking. Thanks for your time.

Great video thanks👍🏻I’ve just ordered a tin from amazon to do my shed roof with so I’d love to know did it rain just after you finished the video and when it did rain did it solve your leaking roof? Thanks 🙏
Hi Daniel,
Good video, i am planning to fix my felt flat roof next week.
Has your roof survived the latest heavy rain and snow?
Thanks, Marie
Yes it has and thanks for asking
Did you put any " scrim " along the joints first?
I used cromopol grey to reflect heat
Brilliant video, thank you. Would you recommend cleaning / sweeping the roof first before painting?
Yes, absolutely
@@DanielJohnHowTo Hi Daniel, I watched your video and ready to piant the roof of my shed, but not sure if its ok, can I send you the image of roof then have your comment? Thanks. Eric
@@aaronmaoeric1 What's the issue with it?
@@DanielJohnHowTo I am not sure roof material is ok to paint waterproof coat or not, if you can share email address I will send image to you, Thanks
Followed your cleaning the roof advice and off I went (not literally). Easy to apply, great coverage and really pleased with the results. Will add another coat. Thanks for the tips etc.
Hi guys, good video, can you tell me did it work and has it lasted? Thanks.
Yes it does
good video . but why such a small brush
It's what we had lying around/.
no you can get the stuff in polar white cromer do it and loads of other places do as well
Hi can we use that during winter or it has to be summer time. Thanks
warmer weather is better for drying but you can use it in the winter
and this will hopefully stop the leak on my angled shed roof thats been ok for two years and is now soaking thru ?
it should do, it fixed our issues
@@DanielJohnHowTo ive just had a mate look and the problem is a raised bubbles up bit of felt on the join, so ive been advised to seal it, if this stuff will be thick enough to briddge a small gap so to speak ill give it a try
@@wevsky it is thick stuff, you could always use some black gutter mastic to fill the join? then stick this on top?
@@DanielJohnHowTo i think this should do the job, ill gt the brush under the gap and apply as much as i can and coat the join form end to end and apply a little pressure it should hold it down.. in theory
This is an economical solution to a garage roof i have. Have you had any problems with sunlight affecting the coating (cracking etc)?
Hi Daniel, aware this was 2 years ago, just wondered how it’s still holding up? Felted my new shed I built from scratch last year, just had a massive down pour and noticed floor wet pretty much along where there beams run front to back. Layer felt across beams opposite way.
Job is still good, thanks.
Daniel cheers pal, grabbing a 5 litre tin next week
@@MOOSEIOD i bought ours from toolstation but check prices to get a good deal
Thanks, I will look into this product when the weather picks up 👍
Great video I'm replacing my shed felt and I'm thinking of using Black Jack to finish it off. Would you recommend?
It would add extra protection, but shouldn't be needed depends on the felt quality.
@@DanielJohnHowTo Thanks for you advise. Have a good weekend and stay cool 👍
Will just black bitumen on its own cover a small ply roof? Thanks
If you are laying felt ontop then yeah it will help protect the wood but probably best buying this stuff or they do a version thats a felt adhesive.
would you recommend stripping back old felt first or just paint this stuff over the top? I have an old shed with felt that is in ok condition, but has started to go brittle and flake. I was wondering if paint straight over would be ok or if I should smooth it back slightly first. What do you think?
I would either brush the old stuff then use black jack, as it will adhere better and fill holes but really if the felt is that bad then consider replacing it.
Thankyou very good and helpful video 👍👍
Most welcome 😊
Good video.. Have applied this black stuff but the roof still leaks. Any advice for this?
apply more, we had a simliar issue and it fixed it.
I had the same problem in my kitchen flat roof leaking
I'm going to buy 5l then paint the whole roof hopefully should sort my leak
But the only problem is UK bad weather
it will be fine
Daniel, how is this roof holding out after 3 years?
it's doing well, we just check it every few months
Thanks
I'm sure it works, but instead of slathering adhesive all over the roof why not use something proper like cromapol?
it's not solely an adhesive, look the product up
Hi, i have the black jack DPM/damp proof membrane version, can i use that as a roof felt adhesive?
Not sure, best to use the proper stuff.
Used this on my garage roof five years ago, it's just started lifting in certain places so doing it again.
thanks for your comment
Hi Daniel, do you think this would work on gravel asphalt roof. our roof has gravel stuck with tar and perhaps i could scrape the grave out. i am trying to patch a leaking kitchen roof
probably will yeah, just stick a large amount of it in there and let it set.
alternatively, dig out/stick something in hole then cover with this stuff
Great video... Do you need to cover the entire garage roof or can you use it on a certain patch/join in the leak area... Thanks
Entire area in the video but you can use it to patch areas.
@@DanielJohnHowTo thanks for reply mate
Did it work?
yes it did and it lasted
Thank you very much for this!
You're very welcome!
What can you use for the cracks (I have a few on the outer part of my flat roof)before applying this paint ???
what type of roof is it?
