- Using the OP-Z after quit a long pause I realize how powerful its workflow is. There is no groovebox / sampler out there that brings me quicker results.

Glad you’re doing OP-Z again. Still learning from you. Jealous of your ease to create a nice chord. Thank you!
Hey, thanks! Looots of hours spent on the the device ;)
So happy to see you back on the op-z !
Heyyyy! Nice to get such a positive response. More OP-Z videos are on their way!
I'm just late to the OP-Z party but your tutorials have been super helpful. Thank you so much.
My pleasure, glad you like them!
😅 "late to the party". Wonder why no-one ever says that about piano's.
Thank You for the video and inspiration. I purchased an OP-Z because of you. #Peace
My pleasure! Hope the OP-Z will bring you lots of fun.
It's the best sequencer ever!!!!
Same here…
I miss my OP-Z badly. And I think this video just convinced me to sell my field to get back to the OP-Z size, workflow and fun.
I want the OP-XY so badly :D
This was awesome
Thank you!
You came back to OP-Z and i came back to your video(s). Thanks Son Wu!
Haha, that's great to hear :) More OP-Z videos incoming!
Nice to see a UA-camr acknowledge the build quality issues. Such a great yet flawed product.
Thanks! Yeah…it‘s too bad. I really hope they will make a better version!
nice and quick! great stuff Son Wu!
Hey thanks! Great to see some familiar faces here!
So glad I stumbled upon your channel!!!
Thank you very much, that's nice to hear :)
this device can make songs that sound like casio keyboard demos REALLY FAST
jeez your hi hat programming is so nice
Thank you!
Hi Mr Wu. Im a new subscriber and fairly new to synths. Was wondering if you would still recommend the opz as a new sequencer/ groovebox now that EP 133 is out.
I picked up a Nanobox Lemondrop last year and love it so now looking for a companion groove machine for it. Thanks!
PS, size and low cost is important in my setup. Appreciate any tips/advice you may have to offer🙏
I still think the OP-Z sequencer is the best in many ways. It doesn’t have a good sampler, and the synth are just alright. But it’s super quick to work with and can control other gear really well. For that purpose I would recommend it!
The EP-133 is way more fun when it comes to sampling. However it doesn’t have a synth built in…so it depends on what you are looking for :/
@@SONWU OK, so I went ahead and purchased one off of reverb and now super excited to learn and pair with my also tiny lemondrop.
The OPZ is my very first groovebox, and although I still have no clue what I'm doing as yet as a native guitarist, I'm super stoked at the potential of learning more about sound design and creating more ambient orchestral type music solo....don't ask lol.
So again, just wanted to thank you for inspiring me on this whole creative initiative. Like many others, I truly value your content and hope to see more of your ideas on the channel! Thanks Mr Wu!! ☺
The workflow is unmatchable and you’ve really mastered it! Are you comfortable working without the screen? Trying to ditch the screen but it’s kinda like blindfolded when you’re used to it. Think it’s gonna speed up the workflow even more once I get better with reading the leds.
Thank you! I am comfortable without the screen, because I started using it mainly without one…and of course having it used for maaaany hours.
It just get's difficult in daylight :)
Still love this video!!! This is what made me buy the opz. Like he says, the build quality blows and it's not my favorite synth....but damn u can't beat that workflow
Thank you! I’m glad to hear that it still rings true and you didn’t regret your purchase!
Fye
Thanks 🙏
How about play? (polyend)
How do you record the sound into the video? Is it connected to a pc with a recording program and you fit it manually to the video or how? Hope you understand my question😊
Correct, I am using a audio interface to record my microphone and my OP-Z into my DAW (reaper). Then I align it with the video in Final Cut. Hope this helps!
I noticed that the step lengths for the tracks are different from one another. Could you explain the reason for that? I new into the opz, but I followed your vid step by step and made a pretty dope beat! Keep up the great opz videos!
The reason is, that something like a melody-line for example often is longer than 16 steps. So I need to make the step length longer in order to fit it into one pattern. Other tracks like the snare track don't need to change over time, so I can keep the step length at 1. Hope this helps somewhat!
Great as always, Mr. Wu. I got worried when the Octatrack started showing up on your channel as I do love the OP-Z, despite its obvious flaws.
I also have a Minilogue XD and would love to see you work with both machines. Do you have the Oplab?
Hey! Yeah I was a bit more focussed on the Octa, as it takes some more time getting used to. But in future I want to use both.
I don't have the OP-Lab anymore, as it kept popping out, but I still want to use the MIDI side of the OP-Z more with my other gear via USB.
I don't have my XD anymore but got the OG now.
@@SONWU hey what do you mean opLAB kept popping out?
Those hatzzzzz
🙏
I wish they would revamp the OP-Z and add a simple screen. I mean even the PO-33 has a simple screen and it’s only $99.
I wish it had the same build quality and screen of the op1. I would pay $1,000 for that.
100% agree on better build quality, but even the OP-1 has its flaws, like the connector board. Build quality of the Korg minilogue would be nice, it's just as cheap a device, but feels really premium.
@@SONWU maybe I got lucky got the og op1 in 2016. No problems with it to this day. Hey, you might like the Roland mv1 verselab. It also looks to be a super fast work flow.
@@djbowlz2128 Yeah that one looked interesting too especially with it's audio track integration, but I think for now I won't get another groovebox. Just had to fork out for a new Mac so I can keep editing videos :)
Why would they put such an amazing sequencer inside that cheap plastic enclosure?
The storage space is ridiculous too.
Love your videos
Yes, completely agree with you....the built quality is such trash. I just wish somebody would steal the idea and build it better.
@@SONWU An Op-z pro with an aluminum unibody would be awesome.
The sequencer is really deep and powerful and fun to use.
What kills me is the double trigger issue because I love sequencing using the live input
@@elsantoproductora yes, I really wish teenage engineering would address the issue...but I won't get my hopes up.
Does the OP-Z have mutes?
Yes, it has mutes...and mute groups that immediately accessible. It's super quick to use.
Yes the build quality is shit so disappointed as I love the OP-Z! Teenage Engineering doesn’t care for some reason! Really turned me off from them. For the price you would think they would try to fix these issues. Love your videos! Thanks
Thanks! I agree terrible built, but sequencer wise just amazing. I really wish someone just copied it and made it DIY repairable…one can dream
Idk man. Love the op-1 field, really don’t like this thing. And nothing is easier to make music and have fun on than an mpc live 2. Best piece of gear I ever purchased, and I was a maschine only guy until the live 2.
