The songs in this movie are so cute, especially this one. I grew up watching a crappy vhs recording of this movie every Halloween in the late 90’s/early 2000’s. Now that I’m an adult I have even more of an appreciation for the stop-motion animation and the fun horror references.
Yes,this is a wonderful film and my personal favorite of the Rankin Bass films. I was glad when a pristine 35mm print was found and they rescanned/remastered the film. The picture and sound quality are fantastic. A true world of difference from the vhs copies.
@ PyroGothNerd. Another interesting thing is, what is it that is hanging off of Francesca's lower right eye during the song, "It's Our Time To Shine" ? It looks like a teardrop but it is hard to tell what it is.
Actually Angel Lopes, I find it really strange about Franchescas random change of heart all of a sudden. And all because she got help from Felix to get away from the monsters that she originally hated and was going to double cross and get revenge on anyway and all because of a slap from Felix?! Something is up here and something smells fishy... 🤔🧐🤨 She got slapped into love?!
First, when she gets away, she hates all the monsters and Felix, and wants to take control of all of them, and wants her revenge. Then, Felix helps her get away (without even knowing why she needs to by the way) and then slaps her and then all of a sudden she loves Felix and wants to escape with him and start a life somewhere else far off with him?!... 🤨
I mean, it’s sweet and all having that change of heart, and going with Felix (the nicest guy on that crazy island) but I just find it strangely suspicious that she changed so quickly...
@angel sweet, Dracula was evil and conspired to kill her to get her out of the way. Why would in the world would she choose him over Felix. Felix actually cared about her.
@@Suddenlyits1960 So, I re-watched the movie again after for a long and I need to agree - he was really nice and sweet to Francesca but I must to also agree with the Yay Games' comment. It's okay that she started to like Felix and wants to be happy to him but it's weird that she had a sudden change for no-reason. I mean, she used to hate everyone even Felix but suddenly, she was fallen for.
What an absolutely amazing song. One of my favorite shows to watch annually growing up in the 70s. I LOVED Francesca and still do. Of course, now I love the actress who portrayed her (Gale Garnett). What a sexy, sultry, GORGEOUS voice!!! Why didn't this woman take the music world by storm? What an incredible talent!
She did,for a while. She had a big hit in 1963 with her own song “well sing in the sunshine” and “Lovin’ Place”,she was also an actress and had bit parts in popular tv shows at the time. The music business is a rough one. Lots of very talented people came and went. You get your moment to shine and have a hit and there’s constant pressure to recreate it and release another song that will chart. Most people only know a couple of the “big hits” of popular artists like Roy Orbison, but if you listen to their other works there were incredible songs that also should have been huge hits and weren’t.
I know Filmation was the last American animation house to go overseas but wasn't Rankin Bass the first? I know they did virtually all their work in Japan. Their animated stuff even looks like anime. I guess it is anime!
I always loved this movie! When I listen to MJ's "Thriller" I always sing "It's Phyllis Diller! You came for comedy, and now you're running for your life! Ah- ha-ha-ha-haaaaaa...."
That movie is on DVD. Go to the Anchor Bay website and find Mad Monster Party. You can find it there or any websites they have. Great DVD, Anchor Bay. Rankin Bass, the kings of entertainment.
I remember me and my buddy Dennis watching this as kids in the '70s and I always cracked up where the skeletons are playing music and they start screeching.... For some reason that just always cracked me up..lol Dennis if you're out there God bless my old friend..Love Pat !
This was a good movie, but damn I was surprised how good the songs are in this film. I myself am not usually into old music, but wow this chick has a good singing voice.
I love this movie and had to revisit this ole favorite! The message behind the song comes to mind so often. Today, I dedicate this song to my good friend, killerblow, aka, thesweetestgift :) @wleme, thanks so much for sharing :)
One of the interesting things about the production of "Mad Monster Party is why didn't Rankin/Bass simply have Gale Garnett sing the opening theme song, "Mad Monster Party" since her singing voice sounds almost exactly like Ethel Ennis' voice? Rankin/Bass could have saved money on the production of the film by just by having Garnett sing that song.
@ Michael Barlow, I agree that Gale Garnett would have done a superb job singing the title theme, but Ethel Ennis singing style is different than Garnetts. I believe Gale Garnett and Ethel Ennis were both under contract to RCA Victor records at the time and since RCA had planned on releasing the soundtrack to the film they saw an opportunity to promote another of their artists. Ethel Ennis was a great jazz singer. . I really like her version of “The Moon was Yellow” on her RCA Victor Album “This is Ethel Ennis”. Her main influences were Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald. She grew increasingly disenchanted with the music industry, the games you were expected to play as well as the demands it placed on her and she basically walked away from it and returned to her hometown (Baltimore) and lived a quiet life performing there.
@@Suddenlyits1960 . Thanks for the information regarding Ethel Ennis' singing career. She and Gale Garnett had magnificent singing voices! I'll have to listen to that song, "The Moon Was Yellow" by Ethel Ennis sometime if it is on UA-cam.
You’re welcome. They did,and there were so many more during that era who did as well. They just aren’t talked about today. Unlike today back in the 50’s and 60’s the standards were very high and actual talent was required to succeed. A singer had to actually sing. There was none of this “auto tune” fake crap like today, and they had top flight arrangers and musicians and large orchestras backing the singers. Once we got out of the 60’s this type of music started to vanish. People didn’t dress or look the same ever again either sadly.
@@Suddenlyits1960 . I agree that music was vastly superior in earlier eras than today and that back then musicians and singers had to have real talent to succeed and become household names, but I would include the great music of the 1970's-1980's as equally superb to the music from the 1920's -1960's! @Michael Barlow, Francesca’s physical appearance was not based in any way on Gale Garnetts. She was designed by Jack Davis. His original model sheets show Francesca without a “beauty mark”,that was supposedly added later. many sex symbols of the time, notably Tina Louise and Marylin Monroe had them. The only thing Gale provides is her voice. She wasn’t the physical inspiration.
