My wife and I just watched this together, my wife's parents were 40 year members of Hopewell church in Dandridge and buried in the cemetery next to the church. Its a very lovely area. Thank you for this video and all your hard work.
Donnie, I love your videos of east TN! My oldest son moved to Knoxville in 2001 to go to work for Buddy Gregg (he still works there today). He now lives in Lenoir City with his wife and little girl. My late husband and I first visited east TN in 2001, and I quickly fell in love with the area. We have explored many places back there over the years, including Dandridge, Kingston, Morristown, and one of my personal favorite places in the Smokies, Cades Cove. I will be returning to visit in July, 2023. I am looking forward to 3 weeks with my firstborn and his family. Thank you and keep those wonderful videos comin'!!
I just drove past Buddy Gregg in Knoxville last week and I guess they’ve sold to another RV corporation, whose name I’ve already forgotten. There’s another in Strawberry Plains. I hope your son kept his job intact.
They have put alot of towns underneath lakes, we have one here in West Virginia, Sutten Lake, they drain it once A year and you can see the tiny town and all that is at the bottom...Thanks Mr. Laws, great story, and its supposed to snow here under a winter weather warning till 10 a.m. Wed....I guess the allergies will go away for awhile...Be blessed my friend 🌨
Our family has lived in East TN for 200 years but I’ve learned something about our beautiful area from you-as usual! How intriguing and the quality of your videos are top notch. Thank you!!
As usual, a story well told of a town that managed to survive. And as usual, this story of Martha Dandridge led me to Wikipedia and a whole lot of history which had passed me by...her story is well worth knowing, even with her being eclipsed by her second husband George and his fame...
I remember mentioning Dandridge in another amazing video you did. So happy when I saw this!! My daughter and I were blessed to have found a home to buy in this beautiful lil town. I'm raised and retired FL and now living my childhood dream on The Lakeside of the Smokies. Learning all I can about our community and Appalachia as a whole as my grandbabies will grow up here. Thank you as always for your love, care and compassion. Blessings and good health 🕉
Whata beautiful town. So glad they were able to save it from the waters. I was thinking that there's silos sticking up outta the water on Douglas Lake in certain places, maybe I'm thinking of Hale's Bar. Thank you very much for sharing this piece of Tennessee history with all of us Mr. Laws. . What a beautiful place. God bless
Yep, there's still alot intact under our lakes. I can absolutely speak for middle Tn on that. We used to receive warnings from the core , not to jump off houseboats due to people hitting old chimneys. (Edit : That was on percy priest near a popular party cove about a mile up from elm hill marina.)
My Mom and Dad lived in Butler before it went underwater. Dandridge is beautiful. Thanks for a bit of East Tennessee history I didn't know. Blessings, Donnie.
Hello again Donnie. Several years ago I spent a week in Dandridge. We rented a boat and went out fishing. There is some good fishing on that lake. On the fifth day there I got to feeling really bad so I stayed back at the cabin. Later in the evening They sent a rescue squad to get me I was in so much pain. They took me to the hospital and come to find out I passed a kidney stone. Needless to say my fishing was over for a few days...lol...It is truly a great place. The doctors was wonderful also the people at the cabin. I really enjoyed my time there spite of all. Great video and I thank you again for the videos.
Well I attend the first Baptist church of Dandridge .. my family here goes back way before Tennessee was even a state.. I’m so blessed to live in this beautiful area .. the Lord should blessed me richly.. thank you Donnie Law enjoyed your sharing the history of this side of Heaven.
Thank you Mr. Laws, for this episode. I viewed it today. My wife and I have some very good friends, who were born and raised around Dandridge. They're up in age now, as we are. We've driven that main road many times.
Your stories always make me cry. I grew up in Jefferson City. Went to high school in dandridge Road 4 wheeler all over the banks of Douglas. It make me so homesick. God bless you for sharing
Another beautiful video of a great little town in Tenneesee Donnie. You and the guys at Keeping Appalachia and Jared King tv have just about convinced me that I'm going to retire far away from the major cities! My heart is calling for the mountains again!
My family and I lived there for a few years till moving to Florida. We all miss that little town nothing like raising a few there. Dandridge will always be in our hearts.
Thank you for this, and all your other videos, bringing history, wildlife, nature and a quiet way to live. We all need that in this day and age. Stay safe always
I always enjoy your videos Donnie. They stories are something that I really like, as well as the beautiful countryside and the icing on the cake is your calm soothing voice. It's like a vacation for the soul, and we all need that sometimes. Stay safe my friend and know you have a Friend in Texas.
Your videos are always the very best. I just love learning about the history of Tennessee and the Blue Ridge Mountains and the great Smoky Mountains and I absolutely love how you narrate everything. God bless you Donnie
I just found another I missed. I bet there may be quite a few yet. Don't worry I'll find them all in time. I enjoy all of your videos no matter how many times i watch them. Thanks again Donnie, for sharing, your friend, Louise
Great and interesting video as always Donnie! Thank you. Very historic indeed. There is a strong argument that the ancient Indian town of Chiaha may have been located up from the dam (Zimmermans Island) and was visited by Hernando De Soto and Juan Pardo, Spanish Conquistadores around 1540 to 1567. Unfortunately, researched somewhat ended with the construction of the dam.
Beautiful video. Beautiful story. I ❤ all your videos. Thank you for all the work you do into video taping all these beautiful stories. Hello from Naples Florida
Just love these peaceful, quaint little towns and looks very much like here in rural upstate New York. That is one beautiful area for sure, thanks for sharing my friend
Interesting story, Donnie. Back in the fall we spent a few nights in Dandridge at a B&B while visiting the Smokies. Very nice place with very friendly people. We enjoyed out time there and plan to return in the near future. Hope you are enjoying your week and God bless!
