Eugene Record did record this and he was lead singer of group...Robert' " Squirrel"' Marshall, Red , and Eugene for all the recordings until he left the group. Then Robert Lester sang Eugenes songs and Marshall did the " talking " songs Eugene made famous. They did a great job keeping the Chi.Lites touring. Frank Reed took Reds place when he quit for health reasons. Fantastic group but Marshall is last man Standing. 🎶🎤🎶

I first saw the Chilites in 1968 in DC, it was the Chicago Revue all the acts were from the Chi, this was at the Howard Theater in DC, the headliner of show was Gene Chandler, The Artistics, Lee Charles, Barbara Acklin till this day Squirrel had the baddest process I ever seen
This is one of my very favorite songs. I love the chi-life's my favorite a letter to myself. A real tear jerker. I loved all their songs. We will miss Eugene Record. May you RIP. I will always love their music.

They all 4 actually sang and recorded all songs singing harmony and backup for Eugene.
Unlike the Stylistics who weren't singing backup for Russell Thompkins . Record producers replaced the Stylistics stage performers with pro singers on the recordings.
All ChiLite voices were good enough to record with their lead singer.and they did...sounding fabulous. Great group. 🎶❣🎶

squirrel sang lead on their version of inner city blues . you're no longer apart of my hart . my last mistake .and few others a lot of groups had a guy who were background but when needed could lead when called upon and squirrel and was one them r.i.p brother

yes it is. very good ear my friend. The video is a tribute to Squirrel though. He sang it alot after Eugene passed. It is, and always will be a great song. The Chilites will be around a long time.
+Big Maka , Yes indeed they are definitely epic and I never get tired of listening to them (real music) ever since the late very early 70s. Squirrel was definitely a showman and did sound a bit like Eugene. I can pick his voice out in many of their very early cuts. Missing them tremendously as a bonifide group. Thanks for posting :)
