Saltwater and Freshwater Fishing - 100% Homemade Balsa wooden lure - The Attila Fat Minnow Part 1
- For long time ago, I wanted to do a video to show how I do my own lures.
This time , here is the Attila Fat Minnow "S" . It was made from Balsa wood, and his main characteristics are:
- Sinking action
- Saltwater treble hooks #1
- Total weight around 1oz (26.1gr)
- Shifting weight action for better casts
- Pretended to catch Flounder, Corvina and other species that run in the shores...
My next video will show the Attila Fat Minnow "S" already painted and finished. Then, I will complete four more videos , where I will show the details to make this lure step by ste´p.
Thank you for watching the video, and give me your questions and recommendations.
Love the action on that lure and the metal limning is very clever, waiting for the next in the series and thanks for the mention. Oh and I posted on my blog for the 22nd May
***** Hello Paul ... I appreciate a lot your words..coming from a Master like you are with these matters... Hi Antonio thanks very much look forward to useing your lures they look so good in action and love all the work you put in to making your lures tight lines
Lovely workmanship Antonio. I have watched a few of your videos and they are very interesting and helpful. I'm going to attempt making a stainless steel lure from a knife first then see how I go from there. I will post to let you know the outcome. I love that long Agllia lure, I think it will be a big hit in our South African waters, especially along our east coast. I like your attitude, I wish you all the best.

Great video Antonio, I am just getting started with lure making and was wondering how you went about making the lip of this minnow and what materials you used for it. Thanks again
Hello James, I'm sorry for replying too late... I did the lip with some kind of acrylic plastic... I was looking for poly carbonate plastic but it was not possible yet. In my next trip to the USA I will look for it.
Please let me know what do need to know about making the lip, and i hope i can help you.
Thank you for your comment and I invite you to watch my other videos and give me your thoughts...

Hello Taylor
Thanks for your comment... I am using Epoxy Resin .... 50/50 parts of resin and hardener....
+antonio999us Brilliant thanks mate! Again, great vid.
Having fished multiple s in different sizes and colors, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 this is by far my favorite. One thing to be aware of is the sided willow blade. One side is silver and the other is the green/orange shown. This is not bad, just unconventional. In terms of fishing, I have found the lure works just fine without a tail like a craw or shad. That addition is up to you. Also, the hook part where you attach the swivel snap or tie the line is a problem on baits these days, since it's able to slide up and down. However this lure seems to be tight enough that that doesn't happen often, and you can solve it by putting a thin slice of medical tube over the hook before attaching the line. Like others have said, it's really magic on a good windy day.
Nice Video!
Robert U.S.A.
Hello Robert, thank you for your comment....
Hola Antonio,

Hi . what do u use for the lip
do u glue all the 4 piece together when u want to cut and sand them to shape?
Hello Keen, no... . Given that the lure is made with four wooden pieces, I glue only two together to obtain two halves. Before to cut and sand the lure, I use two sides scotch tape. In this way I can separate both halves when shape is ready, to add the steel wire and weights. Please let me know if you have any further question. I invite you to watch my other videos and give all your comments and questions... all the best, Antonio.
thanks for video, its amazing.
do You hard the wood?
Hello Carlos, thanks for your comment... I just want to understand well what did your mean with "hard the wood"?. When I apply epoxy coats on the wood, it seals the wood and at the same time give more hardness to the wood... each wooden plug has four epoxy coats...
do u speak spanish?
Claro que sí... pregúntame lo que necesites.
antonio999us gracias
Grazie
What gauge wire did you use to apply the hooks
Hello Dillon... I used a stainless steel wire of 1mm diameter...
@@antonio999us thank you for responding it helps a lot
:: HI ,i have a question ,you deep the lure in wath type of finish to get a seal product ,thank you ..
Hello Victor, I use epoxy resin to make water proof the balsa wood and seal all its pores. Once the wood plug is ready, I meant after the last sand, I give a light coat of epoxy and let it dry for at least 36 hours. Afterwards, you will see almost all pores open because the resin penetrated them. Then I sand again the plug trying to eliminate all those pores which were opened until the plug is soft again. Now, the plug is ready for the second epoxy coat, and I put in the dryer machine.
awesome video! what is the name of that song and artist?
Hello fxstang
Thank you for your comment... the got this song from UA-cam...I will look for it to give you the name....
you dont have any issues with the glue breaking??
Hello Josh...what exactly do you mean? ... until now, I didn't have any issue when gluing the wood... did you mean if the plug broke in two when it was in action? Then, the answer is not. What happened to me last time was that I broke the lip of a pink Attila because it got stuck in a seaweed and when I was pulling back to release, it went directly to rock.
oh sweet and i was just wondering if over time the joins where the glue is broke or anything but if not thats great
thanks

where to buy balsa
What is the name of that metal balls u used bro? And how about the diameter of it? :)
Hello and thanks for your question. The balls I used are stainless steel ball bearings of 1/4". Each ball weights around 1.1gr.
how did you set the wire into it?
Hola tdok, given that the lure is made based on two halves, before to glue them I set the wire in a channel that I prepared before. Take a look at time 7:54... you will get the idea... you will notice the grooves I made to each half to set the wire. I used some crazy glue to pre-set the wire and the I glued both halves
Gracias
Love your work can you send me sum lures to Ireland for pike fishing

Hola Chad, of course...send me your email

What a music ??
Hello HardTrail ... thanks for your comment... I used this music because it was available in UA-cam. In this way I don't have issues with copyrights... I invite you to watch other videos a leave me your recommendations to improve them.
Good hand is can you somes. Lesta
And here is another sharp point which thinks playing loud music is conducive to learning ! I wonder why Schools and Universities don't continuously play music in lessons ? It's a 4ucking mystery ! Ffs.
muchas gracias
