I really don't know anyone else, then Jay that is so easy to recognize in recordings. Because they are unique, beautiful and so outstanding. Don't get me wrong. I love Luke, Larry, Landar and a few more, but Jay... well, it's something unique.
I can’t take this! I can’t take this! This guy is so fucking good, it’s melting my brain! He sounded like Steve Lukather before Steve Lukather sounded like Steve Lukather! 🕺🏻
Had the pleasure of working with Jay on two albums for The Memphis Horns on RCA................EVERYTHING HE DID WAS AN INSTANT CLASSIC.........and such a lovely unpretentious bloke.....
Jay has amazing technical ability. He's incredibly self aware of his process - almost describing his technique like an observer ("I don't even know what I played"). To have such a command of an instrument is rare. To deconstruct exactly how he does it from another prospective is mastery.
I love that Jay's playing is so original (and yes, melodic) ... he seems to have come from another guitar galaxy ... go Jay! Plus he wrote some of the most beautiful ballads of all time ... wow ... if you told me he discovered a new law of physics, I'd believe it ...
He just seems like a great dude… You can see how he would look out for Luke in the early days… He has that self aware, confident, unselfish master vibe…
Tedesco, Carlton, Parks, Graydon, Ritenour, Lukather, Landau, Huff...the top L.A. guitar cats, one passing the bastion to the other, right in that order.
His solos w gino vannelli are awesome...what a great versatile composer, earth wind n fire,george benson,al jareau,david foster,mahanttan transfer,to name a few

Amazing, after almost 10 years of playing and thinking "how bad is this technique that I have?!", Jay sheds light that bending the string such that my finger goes under the string above is perfectly fine as a way to avoid unnecessary noises. If Larry Carlton does it, it's cool with me!
Jays a great guitarist ... I remover his work with Gibno Vanelli , so many great songs and classic albums by the greats ... what a player at that time I was listening to him , Carlton , al dimeola. , benson , metheny , larry coryal Some many great musicians , and just hearing the electromagnets a three piece from Tx. I bought an EVH Music man guitar because this guy uses one, I love his solos and compositions. I am however still crap. I learnt about shapes years ago, and glad he uses the same methods, it’s a good way of remembering and developing a style without having to learn every scale. Allan Holdsworth used shapes also.
I only heard the shape of the shapes at one medium speed where it sounded like a gallop to me. At super fast or super slow speed, forget it. Just sounds like a blur to me

Wow these solo's are just epic, incredible movement
Tone, touch, musicality is just incredible.
Look, anyone who could play the "Hawaiian" solo on Peg has my vote on anything he plays. Jay, Dean Parks, Larry, these guys are the best.
Beautiful solos! Jay and Luke are cut from the same cloth!
"you need to be what you are"... right on, Jay 👍
A truly gifted Musician 🙏🏼🤘🏻👍🏻
You sure can hear his influence on Lukather! Awesome!
Same 80's chorus sound for sure
I thought the same..
Almost same vibrato..picking technique..
i was thinking that...just now!!...and what an amazing sound too!!
As if , lulather picks most notes Grayson is playing more a legato style .... totally different styles
Surely!
Thanks for his contribution to Gino’s masterpieces.

An intelligent player who is so conscious of what he does !
Studio sausage Mr Graydon...one of the very finest ever.legendary guitar player
Agree
This guy's cool - I like the way he teaches.

I'm so glad I'm not a guitar player!! I love his playing!! great Jay!!
Incredible. I pretty much agree with Everyone. Sure hear Luke’s inspiration. 🙏 thank you for this
I loved Jay's big fat tone and his phrasings. He sounds like good mix of Carlton and Ritenour!
In some ways he is better. He's like Mick Taylor, very low on the radar but a better player than his peers.
I agree for sure
He came before both of them.
Peg solo, genius piece of work
Jay seems a really nice guy . Such a good guitar player and singer also.

looks like a valley arts telecaster. must be an early VA because of the headstock
