Well, there's no special visual effects in this movie, because it's a drama.😁
If this was a science fiction movie with giant monsters (instead of a drama about an older couple dealing with love and aging, starring Ingrid Bergman and Anthony Quinn), yeah there would have been special visual effects...probably animated by Ray Harryhausen.😁

Both the late Anthony Quinn and Ingrid Bergman were Academy award winning actors, she was one of the greatest during the Golden Age of Hollywood and beyond. Strange though seeing them on film decades after they passed away, film immortalizes them, forever young/middle age though she died at age 67 from breast cancer on her birthday. May they rest in peace~💜💜

Just watched them together in the wonderful film, "Spellbound" an Alfred Hitchcock film! She was in a couple other of his great films. Another one resting in peace, fabulous director who knew how to sketch out all his scenes since he started out an artist. He would also briefly appear in some of his movies, caught him in Spellbound but you have to look real quickly or you'd miss him.

An outstanding story of adult love between two married people who are missing passion discovered in each other. Quinn's character leads her on then patiently waits for her to come to him. As he stands with his arms folded across his chest she lays her head on his shoulder. He plays it so cool not grabbing her, but allowing her to slowly realize her feelings. It's by far the most romantic movie of it's time. Both are believable in their roles. Quinn said it was his gift to Bergman.

It reminds me the film”The Bridges of Madison County” with Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep which digged much deeper into the impossible love of two adult people. Here we see Anthony Quinn and Ingrid Bergmann at age 55. Can there be a greater sensual scenery than he rubbing her cold feet in the midst of winter in a dark stable with the smell of hay and goats? And talking about his fantasies of bathing her…. the love they feel for each other, the longing for attention, so touching. You can feel the passion and how he uses his creativity and sensibility to let her unfolding like a flower in Spring…Great film. Thank you for uploading! Unbelievable that the film in 1970 was a commercial failure.
Addendum: there is a lot of satanic symbolism in the film. Quinn in a double role God/Satan always waiting, temptation/manipulation, the goats, frogs and watercress (revelation of the secret of rejuvenation), Susanna and the bathing, chosing between two "candies" and the broken vessel, "spring"= sacré du printemps, "the strength of our Constitution", "ambiguity", the sacrifice of the male first-born (!), the seductive singing, the cracked eggs, spring rain=sexual union/insemination etc When her husband came to the insight of his insignificance, when he showed humbleness, the spell upon her was broken.

Why has Hollywood stopped making such beautiful movies, all they have now is gun violence, fast cars or science fiction. Hollywood should bring back trend of simple & meaningful stories, our present generation needs to learn about care & love not violence & fast cars

Stunning. The white hot passion of the barn scene sears through the film. But its consequences for all the characters are present from the very start. Quinn and Bergman are unparalleled.

Dang Quinn’s character practically smacking his lips every time he looked at Ingrid ! No subtlety with that guy!! Her husband pretty slow on the uptake!!

A very good movie, and a very good lesson. Just as in Bridges of Madison County, women are being misled into thinking that what they are experiencing is "love," in this short time. It's just a need to be in love with ourselves, and to accept that all relationships get stale. If someone runs off with their lover, that relationship will get stale too, real love can weather the storm of boredom. It is patient and keeps trying. If two people haven't weathered storms together, haven't argued, but have only kissed in a barn, and been high on the drug of infatuation, that is not love, no matter how much it feels like it is. Personally, I liked Richard better than Robert, in the Bridges of Madison County. What is needed here, is communication, and asking for what you need from the person you are with. If they don't respond well, try again later, in a different way. Do not have an affair. If Robert had run off with Francesca, he'd only find another married woman to catch his eye. Charismatic men are usually not the best choice.

One of my good buddies brother was a good friend of Anthony Quinn and John Wayne. When her brother died, she went to her brothers house to be with his wife and kids in San Diego, the phone rang, she picked up and it was Anthony Quinn calling to give his condolences. I love Anthony Quinn movies.

I think it's because Bergman couldn't act her way out of a paper bag unless the story allowed her to be psychiatrically unbalanced or completely drunk. This film seems to me to be a self-indulgence of a star wishing to show range that she doesn't have. IMHO, 'course. It's like watching a Rebecca de Mornay effort without any nudie scenes. Except I bailed out when the boredom got too much.
