Growing up in the 50's when my sister and I collected movie-star items from magazines like Photoplay, Screen Stars, Movieland & TV Time, TV-star Parade and dozens of others, I recall seeing Anthony Dexter in a few color portraits, especially in Photoplay & Movieland. Yes, he made a splash for awhile and disappeared mysteriously. He was a hit in 'Valentino' in the titular role with Eleanor Parker. He was chosen because he bore an uncanny resemblance to the original Valentino who died tragically during the 40's. I must make it a point to see this movie since I do not want to miss an opportunity to see the classic actor Anthony Quinn in one of his negative turns, before he attained star status.
[Someone wanted to know what year this movie was made. So did I, so I checked. It was made in 1952.] Thanks for posting this entertaining old movie! As another commenter mentioned, it's a knockoff of the Prisoner Of Zenda, but it was very well done. Remakes are often not as good as the original, but this version stands well on its own merits. And guess what! I found an Easter egg in this movie. The name of the country was Mandorra, and it was located between France and Spain. Well, in real life there is a little country located between France and Spain, and it's called Andorra.😂 Considering the age of the movie, this Easter egg is an antique.😂 Everyone involved did a great job. I especially liked Anthony Quinn as the villain.😊 I like a lot of old movies much better than most newer movies.😊
Knock off or not this was a great movie. Good pacing, overall ensemble cast and Anthony Quinn. What a role for him, he al.ost stole this movie, almost. Anthony Dexter had real promise here. He did not disappoint. He had everything to be a big big star. And the talent to back it up.
Our family love these old movies, thank you! Could you post "The Naked Jungle" with Eleanor Parker and Charleston Heston We would Really Love to watch it.
@@uchibauki2515 Usually, the resolution in these old movies is not so great that we can't make out the letters. I am old enough to have learned Roman Numerals so I will be more careful next time.
Oh what a fantasy Lolz. A luckless soldier who becomes King. Rudyard Kipling's The Man Who Would be King should see this . Old movies of the last century are fun to watch bcs they are so entertaining. I enjoyed the swashbuckling fights/the dancing/the clothes etc. I dare swear that James Horner who wrote the musical score for the 1998 movie The Mask of Zorro (Antonio Banderas/Catherine Zeta Jones) must have seen this production bcs certain parts of the music is so reminiscent of the Zorro movie! If anybody disagrees kindly let me know why. Thank you.
I never saw this movie. The sultan Anthony Dexter looks like a copy of Keanu Reeves ! HE HAS same facial feature like him. He looks like him. Happy Bithday Mr . REEVES ! EARLY BIRTHDAY WISH❤🎉
Not bad for a knockoff of "The Prisoner of Zenda." Actually, this one turns out to be solidly entertaining, swashbuckling fun with great production values and a more complex script than expected. Anthony Quinn's Prince Ramon makes a charming villain.
This film, The Brigand, is based off of Alexandre Dumas’s book by the same name which was written approx. 40 years before Hope wrote The Prisoner of Zenda. ✌️
God's word Do not fear nor be afraid Have I not told you From that time And declare it You are MY witness Is there a GOD besides ME Indeed There is no other ROCK. JESUS loves you
I love the old movie no one is swearing, cursing God,or jumping in and out of bed, they are the real actor, the actor's today can not act, swear, cursing God ,jump in and out of bed each other ,hate God .

Why Google and wikipedia don't know the true title of the novel by Dumas??? Can anyone tell me?
THANKU
Esses filmes deveriam ter legenda, vocês não acham?
This is Prisoner of Zenda with the imposter getting the girl and throne in the end through no choice.

Anthony Quinn always enhances the quality of a film.

"In love with the Desert", indeed! Let her move to 29 Palms California and then let her talk of loving the desert.

Boy Cohen made him look like Valentino. That sure shortened his acting career.

Beautiful real women. Enjoyment to watch ❤
Ooo la lah !
1952.
Tradu în română.
Typical Hollywood idea of 'early nineteenth' century female dress! Not mention the 'haram' style costume of his majesty's serving girl. UK
Shame from the strange way of talking!
1952 film.
Excellent movie. Thank you.
