Thank you, Dylan. The victims finally have justice after so long of so much grief & pain they went threw mentally. I was a victim of Ed's for a short amount of time. My personal information was exposed online at one point by him many years ago, using self-harm/manipulation to his advantage. The fact he was getting many others I knew involved and even acquaintances I knew as well into his unnecessary drama.
The truth is I cared about Ed like a brother at one point in my life and tried my best to get him help by sending him resources/services to help him. But he was not mentally ready & his mother is also to blame for keeping him sheltered. To this day, I still wish him the best that one day he gets the mental help he needs. Before it's too late for him and when his mother does pass. I don't wish anyone to go threw the hardship of losing anyone, even my worst enemies. I've grown over these three years & today I no longer wish to stay silent.
If there is one thing that this video did help. It was bringing a new community together, that mental abuse does exist online, that we don't have to fear anymore, that we can make a brand new start & by moving on to better things in life.
You've always been a Mental Health Advocate in my eyes & today this proves you are one. I had no doubts that three years ago, you would be a successful content creator over time & today you proved that. Thank you, Dylan for everything. :)
My Best Friend showed My Spax3 and Him and I use to make fun of Him when We watch His videos, I too was a victim of Spax3, When I met Him on The Game Toon Zone forms (back when it was called Spax's Game Toon Zone) He was a very nasty induvial, at one point I offered to voice Sonic in His CNASN Game Adventures which He turned Me down and a very rude way, keep in Mind I was 15 at that time and was going though alot in My IRL stuff, I also had an account called Anti-Spax3 where I uploaded Spax3 spoof songs but one of them got taken down and got a copyright strike on both My main account and the Spax3 parody account, I'm glad that People like He11sing920 (R.I.P), BigAl2K6, Boomstick545, Random DCE, Princeofmoose (R.I.P), Juniorfan, MagusX1, Muclebomber and BLACKbuster Critic (I know BLACKbuster Critic was going to do a Sonic Brainfart on Him IDK what happened to that but still I'm glad BBC is aware of Spax) called Him out.
After years Spax3 will never learn and I'm very sorry that You were one of Spax's victims and it just goes to show how vile this man is.

Back in 2020, I thought that Spax3 was actually trying to make restitution and learn from the person he was as a young man, and become a decent man going forward. Wasn’t the case AT ALL, sadly.
Yeah... It does hurt. Because he could've been so much better. He has the passion and Charisma for good content, but he's just too self involved to change for the better.
When you're a sociopathic narcissist it's nearly impossible to actually change for the better sadly, it seems.
In 2018 it looked like he was living a quiet life but then at the end of 2019 I saw the whole drama unfold after he got booted from a discord server by someone half his age. Why does he always associate with people half his age? Threatening to sue a 13 year old when he was 26 and stalking a 19 year old at 36 is not a good look. Let's not forget that Skype chat he did with two teenage boys talking about boners & burger King back in 2009 that got leaked🤣
That was literally the most unapologetic apology I’ve ever heard in my life. It sounds like it was physically hurting him to take responsibility for his actions.

Sorry you been through all of this. This man has been harassing me since I broke ties with him since 2019 and still to this day. I'm working on transitioning from male to female, trying to get my life back in order and finally found happiness.

I went to middle school and high school with him and nothing changed a salty angry entitled creepy wierdo then and still now. He tried to stalk a female friend of mine and we both just laughed at him. I love that he calls him fucking up like walking into the spikes in sonic or just being bad at the game then calls it a glitch

Early UA-cam was a strange place. I used to watch Spax (along with other Angry Video Game reviewers of that era) and also saw how that whole community united against him. Then after Spax left UA-cam the first time they all fought amongst themselves between cliques. Early UA-cam really felt like High School cliches.
On a serious note, Spax is pathetic given the fact that he hasn't changed. He makes Spoony seem normal.
I said this years ago but once the AVGN hype died down in 2010-11 so did the retro gaming craze in general. UA-cam personalities shifted from angry game reviews to angry rantings and you can only rant about Spax and Chris Chan so long before it gets dull (or until they do something else stupid). A lot of the guys turned on each other for views and because once the gaming craze was over, people realized that they weren't acting...they really were that socially awkward and developmentally challenged as they seemed in their videos. Then when they started hanging out with each other for real, their horrible personalities were aired out on UA-cam when they tired of each other. Look up the "infamous New York trip" featuring RandomDCE and a gaggle of UA-camrs and how ridiculous the stories are that came out of it.
Can't wait to watch, I bet this is going to be a great redemption story where he realizes his mistakes and finally turns his life around!

I actually used to be an unironic fan of Spax's early content when I was in high school, during the original "Angry Reviewer" boom on UA-cam. I always wondered what happened to him after he seemingly disappeared from the face of the earth.

Funny thing is I was actually around when pokecord was added to the server. All that happened was me and another user talked about the bot, and me giving my criticisms towards it at the time.
And we weren't being aggressive, attacking each other, or being disrespectful. Just healthy conversation between two people.
Suddenly the next day the bot is gone and Spax puts a pinged message saying the bot was deleted due to it causing drama.
Which again, I was practically living in that bot channel trying to minmax my Greninja (because I speak only three languages. English. Facts. And violence) and there was not a single hint of drama going on. And to this day we have no idea what drama he was referring to.
It was due to a miscommunication of me and another friend adding the bot and me forgetting when to add it or not and ed getting annoyed regarding that

Just heard about Spax3 today and finding this video was, honestly, such a massive shock. I had only heard about him in a very basic sense; that being he was an AVGN copy who liked Sonic a lot. Was not expecting to fall down this rabbit hole but I honestly feel better for doing so. Its good to see people like you bringing so many people together like this in order to talk about and call out abuse like Spax3 committed. All I can say is thank you for that and thank you for the time and effort you put into creating this video. My heart and wishes goes out to all who were affected by Spax3's abuse and hope they are doing better now x

These documentaries have become so good. The editing has improved so much and your audio is really nice as well.
What is it about Sonic The Hedgehog that attracts the most toxic manchildren on the internet? It's a shame because a lot of these people show genuine charisma and passion for what they do. They just always seem to ruin it by acting stupid and making fools of themselves for the entire internet to see.

I find it's because so many of them long for the days of good Sonic games and seeing all the crap Sega produced in the early and mid 2000s was a real blow for a lot of fans. Those disenchanted fans then started debating over what can or can't fix Sonic inspiring lots of toxic behaviour. Social media and UA-cam were more recent too and qmost people didn't understand the subtitles of those new phenomena. They bitched and moaned caught up in the new drug of videos and social media.
Furries, cartoons and as mentioned in the video, UA-cam launched just as Sonic 06 came out so everyone had to have their say....recipe for disaster

You are right, your equipment and video making skills have improved drastically. I have been watching you for a while and I like how your videos have evolved over time. I cannot wait to see other internet fables from you. I have seen some people talk about others online, but it's not a incredibly huge market yet unless you go into JCS Criminal Psychology those youtubers break down criminal acts and whatnot.
You'd be surprised, there's at least a handful of channels that do decent numbers covering internet characters and celebrities with their ups and (mostly) downs. I obviously can't speak to how much money if any they make from it, but those videos *do* get traction.
Man all these names: Setsuna Angel, Prince of Moose, Hellsing920, GuardianEarth, it really takes me back. It also reminds me of simpler times. I stopped following Spax after his Sonic Unleashed video, so all of this drama is new to me. I was hoping he had grown up. Its sad but unsurprising to know that he hasnt changed all these years later.

Once again, I'm happy to see that the archive I set up of his videos ended up being useful for a project like this over a decade later. I really wish I could have salvaged more of his really old stuff, like his endless black screen drama videos, or the emergency skype chats.
Great video! For someone like me who was tuned into Spax3 as a thing from 2007-2011, but stopped paying attention after that, this serves both as a trip down memory lane, and an unfortunate catch up on what I missed. I can't believe how little he has changed, in spite of how much time has passed.
I didn't interact with him personally a lot, but I did have a few moments here and there. Funniest anecdote was our first interaction. After his Sonic X dub came out, I sent him a message on Skype to tell him his Sonic voice was trash, and he immediately tried calling me. After I didn't answer, he wrote "Pick up." and tried again. I picked up, and without waiting for a "hello?" from me, he immediately launched into a full extended rant about how I don't understand that there can be different intepretations and versions to a character's voice, or something. After silently listening to this whole tirade, feeling like I was having a fever dream, I just said "... alright, man" and he instantly hung up.
Spax3 will never have a redemption arc.
I wasn't surprised that him having a girlfriend wouldn't last. And more importantly, starting shit with Mike and Al again after the former put him on blast over the shit he started 14 years ago.

Incredible. Now whenever I feel bad about myself I can remember that I don't throw tantrums over Discord bots. Definitely an improvement from the last Spax video, not to say that it was bad. Made my day to have another Dylan video to watch while I work or just chill out after a stressful shift. I have question if you see this though, sorry if you've answered this a bunch before and I haven't seen it. What inspired your channel and made you want to start making videos? It's pretty evident to me from your videos that UA-cam has been a big part of your life and you have love for it. So I'm interested.
This is a really well made video and I like how much detail was put into this. I definitely think you put a lot of information into this video when it comes to covering Spax's history and everything else. I also think it's funny that around 1:44:10 you can see an image of me from the last UA-cam thumbnail that he had on his GamerSpax channel before he nuked everything. I actually remember back in 2009 I had gotten into a conflict with Spax because of the fact that I had sided with MulderYuffie who was mentioned here because Spax had actually mistreated him after MulderYuffie had basically done a lot for him all because of the influence of PimpinFishSticks or Macks (who know goes by SoulBrothaNumbuh3). Both Mulder and Macks didn't get along back then and Spax had severed ties when Mulder had actually called Spax's mom on the phone. Keep in mind that Mulder was 16 when all this was going on.
I also wanted to mention that Spazkid (the dude who created Sonichu the Animated Series and a guest on OneyPlays and SleepyCast) was the one who made the video at 1:31:24 which is titled "Manchild's Comeback". The reason why GanonvsLink1000 had it uploaded on his channel is because Spazkid kept getting a lot of his channels nuked back in the day by UA-cam so a lot of his older videos are reuploaded on different channels as a result of it. Hence GanonvsLink1000 having that video on his channel.
Overall I enjoyed the video and thought it was a great trip down memory lane and it definitely put a lot of context of what happened in good detail. The production quality is pretty high too. Keep up the good work.
I had an encounter with Spax3 in His forms when The Game Toon Zone was known as Spax's Game Toon Zone, let Me tell You Spax3 acted like an a*shole to Me He was not a nice person, He basically bullied Me pretty much and I quietly left the forms and discovered the late He11sing920's Epic Rant on Spax3 BC of the sh*t Spax started with Boomstick545 (I was going though persona sh*t at that time in IRL and I was 15 years old and Spax didn't make it better and I want to help Him, hell I offered Him to voice Sonic in His Cartoon Network A.S.N Game Adventure but He turned Me down saying He was going to voice Sonic and He did in an a*shole way).
I've first heard of this guy though a Best Friend of Mine and We'd make fun of Spax even before Ed got hated on (infact My Best Friend laughs every time Spax yells BC it reminds Him of NOT GRIFFITH!!!! which that made Him laugh hard), It's because of Him and Richard Kuta on why I left the Sonic Community (I still like Sonic the Hedgehog today) I knew BLACKbuster Critic had plans to make a Sonic Brainfart on Spax IDK what happened afterwards.
Year later things haven't changed with Spax3.

I knew someone like this. Tried to help this person, I really did. But in the end, this friend didn't want to be saved if it meant having to change. But they were more than happy to drag me down with them. So I had to let them drown to save myself.

Watching this video has left a huge feeling of mixed emotions and a strange sense of numbness. I remember knowing about Spax during young youtube and for a little while being friends with him. Hell, I even remember briefly doing voice work for Tails for him at one point for that Sonic X thing, though it never got off the ground. Between him and college it was the worst few years of my life and it's sad to see that after over a decade he's still the same person he was back in 2012/2013. But I shouldn't be surprised by that given the shit he pulled on a longtime friend of mine (and his unfortunately) last year.
Thank you for this video, Dylan. I actually learned about it because some friends of mine (good people) brought it up and were talking about it, so I ended up opening up and telling them about what I had gone through with the guy, though my experience is mundane compared to others. They have been supportive, and it goes to show even with vile folks like Spax in the world there are good people out there who will love and support you.
I’ll just say I had been friends with Ed for a time, about eight years. He seemed like a pretty cool guy at first. But around 2022 was when things began to go sour between me and Ed. Whenever he had issues that shouldn’t have been my concern, he’d call me on Skype out of the blue, despite the fact I wasn’t in the mood to talk and wanted to either go about my day or just sleep.
Sometimes, he’d call me screaming over issues concerning anybody who “hurt” him. He even had the nerve to drag me into a Discord voice chat when I was out and about with my parents for my mother’s birthday, which he claimed was “inexcusable”, despite me telling him why I couldn’t join. Yes, I agreed to doing it the day before, but the least he could have done was tell me WHEN the meeting would happen. Days before, he flipped out on everybody in a Discord server I run. And guess who he blamed for everyone “ganging up on him”? Yep. Me, even though I told everybody on the server (including Ed) to knock it off with the spat they were having because I couldn’t do much on account I had to work.
And a month later, he calls me over Skype shouting at me for “enabling” my friends while I was at my parents’s house chilling with them. That ended up being the straw that broke the camel’s back for me and I blocked him. The more I think back on my “friendship” with Ed, the more I feel like said “friendship” was more of a “Do as I say or I want nothing to do with you” type of relationship. I stood with him because I was led to believe his “enemies” were the bad guys.
The guy is literally 40 years old and he flips out in discord servers mostly inhabited by minors or young adults. He's an SVU episode waiting to happen

Also, he has not "developed as a voice actor," let alone a human being. He is still absolute doodoo 15 years later. Thankfully, I was lucky to never interact with him directly, only indirectly through folks like Livers, BigAl, Darkness217, etc. To see that he hasn't changed a bit is not shocking in the slightest; folks from that era rarely do, unfortunately.

Nowadays, Roger Craig Smith's Sonic voice gets a similar amount of hate as Jason Griffith's Sonic voice and if Roger Craig Smith did retire doing Sonic's voice for real, I'm sure years later that people would be bandwagoning by saying that he was the best next to Griffith.

i wasn't originally going to comment, but i just read the archive of the 11 page statement from one of his victims.... *he did the same exact things to me when I was 15.* fandubs and cartoon projects as the rope-in, eventually sending threats via 2-cent paypal memos and leaking my grandparent's address/phone number in 2010. this guy tried to ruin my life for laughs and still terrifies me. I had no clue he had other underage victims.
he'd email me from numerous accounts with my dox, threatening to release it if i didn't send him photos of my chest as "proof" I got into a fight at school over a drama that didn't have anything to do with him. found out later he was crushing on me and wanted me to voice some characters in his project and heel-turned when i got a boyfriend. i was 15, he was already in his late 20s. mentioning our age difference set him off, saying I was "playing the age card".
i remember sitting in class with my stomach in knots, knowing he was posting videos of my family's address and my selfies with captions like "eyes that need to be blackened"
a lot of time has passed but I still get a stomachache when i see anything that reminds me of him. the humor in my fear of the noid isn't lost on me.

Spax, as I've come to find out over the last year or so, had many victims to his name, nearly all were underaged, unfortunately, and while some cases are far worse than others, such as your story and the one I detail in this video, it's clear he has been a menace for a while now. He took pleasure in hurting and manipulating others, and I'm so sorry you and so many others had to suffer being around someone like him from such young ages.

@@DylantheKnightOwl I can confirm Puddle's story. Some friends of mine started a forum back in summer 2010. From what I remember Spax was on there and got kicked off for being annoying and that's what led him to start harassing Puddle.

I can confirm that I had some experience with Spax during the whole “DRAMUH” saga. One that I can recall was that he was seeking voice actors for his Pokemon fan series. I’ve only known about it because he was friends with someone that I had recently started taking to at the time and this said friend notified me about the fan project. I auditioned for a character or two and was picked to be part of the cast. I can confidently state that the fan project never took off - or ever will.

I want to say is that this is one of the videos that I could recommend to everyone because of how well put it is ^^
So back in January this year, I called Ed out on Twitter for harassing a certain voice actress who I am a big fan of because she was voicing a character from a popular UA-cam channel and also because of a bad history the two had at a convention back in 2014. I later on said to him that he was slandering her which angered him and he blocked me. Ed's friends also raided my DeviantArt trying to harass me and paint me as the bad guy!
I also want to say that I am relieved for the comeuppance Ed got a few months ago as well. To say that nearly two decades and this man literally is doing the same stuff is absolutely mind boggling and all the evil things he has done is completely unforgivable and at this point, I really don't think change is ever going to happen to him and it is actually just disappointing! Ed is overall just a degenerate parasite who I recommend people should stay away from. I really appreciate all the work you have put into this video and I wish you all the best ✨
The only reason I know about the whole Spax drama is because there was a video where Mr Metekour (back then he was known as Jim181Jim) making fun of the Spax Game Toon Zone website. On an unrelated note, can I just say that Metekour's voice has aged like a fine wine?

Seeing a montage of Metokur, Guru Larry and ChrisChan dissing on Spax3 brought a tear to my eye. There STILL are things that can bring people from all walks of the Internet together.
You know what the sad thing is,? Until Chris Chan assaulted his own mother, in many ways Spax was worse than he was. Chris never changed at all and was the same sociopathic nincompoop he's always been whereas Spax actually tried to concince the world he changed between 2009 and 2019. Spax had a lot of people like BigAl, Mike Maverick and Nicola fooled which makes him a much bigger manipulator than Chris Chan. Alas, what Chris Chan did was far worse than any of the immature BS Spax has done....for now anyway.

From what I heard, the real reason that they replaced the voice actors with the was because Ryan Drummond would have to move to different states in order to reprise his role. He couldn't do so at the time, so the decison was made to replace him with Jason. After 4Kids went under and after gaining a bit of a reputation of his own with the Sonic series, he was kept on as the official VA until the last few years.
I hate when people say he's old news and "you need to get out of 2010". That kind of attitude is what has allowed him to go unchecked being an emotionally abusive, grooming, unhinged sociopath. Yes all the voice actor antics maybe old news, but the way he treats people is not. Especially when those people are more than half his age.
Not gonna lie, I was guilty of that on Dylan's first video of spax mainly cause I was unaware of all the new stuff he did. That attitude kinda spawned from the old ranting community that circled around spax cause there were some people that kept talking about spax when he wasn't doing anything new and those same people also kinda acted just like him. Basically A-logs.

I'm only a handful of months older than Ed with tons of regrets and questionable decisions in my life but none approaching the same level. The lack of self awareness and pure selfishness goes far far beyond what any decent human being should embrace, even unwittingly. While not the worst seen on the internet it's still a warning to heed, for so so many things to avoid and how to not behave.
During the footage of him burning the game on the stove I could do is laugh in panic because of how obviously unsafe that is.

He tried to win me over to his side, but then did a complete 180 when I hired Trina Deuhart to voice my character for my show, then said me supporting her was "vilifying him" and "throwing him under the bus". Then tried to guilt trip me when he found out I was friends with his ex-girlfriend (who I will not reveal their name here), Nicola and Mike Maverick. Because of this, he self-harmed, and showed me images of him stabbing into his wrists, then calling me during a recording laughing hysterically, screaming "ISN'T THIS SO MUCH FUN?!" I felt like throwing up when he did...

One of the things that always stuck out to me was his voice. He has about the pitch you expect from a nasally nerd stereotype, but then his actual inflections are somewhere between valley girl and 2000s high school emo kid. Add the lisp, and I’m not sure I’ve heard anything like it since.
I had thought Spax would either rehabilitate himself, perhaps sure he still acts out constantly but maybe there’s some kernel of truth he doesn’t clarify on, but I was wrong. And I blame no one but myself for thinking that way.

I think iv heard of this scab on UA-cam history in passing before, so getting the full picture here is an enlightening experience. It's funny, there's a solid 20 or so minutes in the middle where it seems he might be getting better, and then we quickly nosedived into the 9th circle of hell all over again like a rollar coaster! Only instead of screaming in enjoyment, it's a mix of disgust and anger at how much this one oxygen disposal unit can't function as a person. The frequent use of the Demon Souls ost really adds to the spectacle of this whole show of the shits, like some calling card of the void for when he indulges in his inner moron.
Also, can we have one bad person on the internet that doesn't have a more than 20% chance of wanting to do things with kids that involves wanting to *allegedly* "firetruck" them, with the I, R, E and T being silent? Would be a nice change of pace in the endless stream of idiocy!
I remember When Metokur covered Spax. Considering how much longer this video is, I'm buckling up for a wild ride.
Should be noted that Spax really hyped up the Noid review as the beginning of some epic storyline. It was pretty awkward when it turned out to be his normal schtick with grating voice acting. And when the story never went very far after that initial video.

Well, this was a wild ride. I had always heard about Spax, and I had certainly heard about his hijinks with Griffith, but for whatever reason, I could never find any of his actual videos. That said, seeing this trail of destruction is remarkable.
With all the documentaries you've done for UA-camrs so far, I think this one had me laughing the most, but not so much at anything you said, but rather you just playing bits of Spax. The highlights for me being him burning the GBA game and dumping the ashes into a piss filled toilet and him going on a rant during the Banjo Kazzoie announcement livestream, the latter of which being the most awkward thing I've ever burst out laughing at.
What shocks me about Spax is how, while he is certainly infamous, he's not as widely talked about as other internet figures, despite having a remarkably insane history behind him. I guess he was somewhat lucky in that his big claims to infamy in the wider internet space happened fairly early in the website's history so it has been largely forgotten. That said, he has shown that despite all the chances he gets, he seems doom to share the same fate as the Sonic GBA cartridge; destroyed and flushed down a piss filled toilet.
As for the video, I've really enjoyed seeing how the documentaries have been forming in style and I'm really looking forward to the one on the Nostalgia Critic.
The wild west Era of UA-cam was basically 2006-11 before censorship started to take over. Not only that but a lot of bands, actors, influencers, etc didn't start really using the platform until 2012-14. Spax's reign of error ended in 2009 long before he could REALLY be scrutinized by the outside world. The thing is, his recent 2019-20 run put him back in the infamous spotlight and now he's got nowhere to hide.

This is an excellent video essay, per usual. Love that you got Spax3 himself in! It was interesting to hear his thoughts on his older actions, as I think that a lot of us grow up to be embarrassed by our old internet shenanigans. Alas, it seems like he hasn’t grown much despite this, but that’s sometimes just how it goes.

this is really really long, but the best lesson I learned is: Internet is a huge place and you don't control it. whatever you say here will either haunt you or lift you up to stardom. Trolls are everywhere and can and will destroy your life and reputation. Anger and rage will embarrass you but your haughtiness will lead you to your destruction.

I remember being a fan of Spax3's content when I was in late middle school before all the drama went down. Although there is a much higher standard of quality nowadays, back in 2007 stuff that wasn't made with a shitty webcam or edited on windows movie maker was quite rare and I think thats what pulled me into Spax's channel in the first place.

Wasn't sure if I was going to need to be familiar with the source material (like AVGN) to like the work and after getting over how irritating I find those Spax voices to be, I've finally had a chance to watch this and loved getting to know about a corner of the internet I haven't. You're the best at this!

I knew about Spax3 when i was exploring ED articles in the late 2000's, i only knew him as the guy that had a hate-boner for Jason Griffith, and at the time one of my friends on DeviantART befriended him. Ed’s story is one of the few story where there isn’t a rise and fall, more like a continuing fall down a deep dark pit.
