The daria fandom feels like it was originally made for daria but became a way for people to have a creative outlet. It reminds me of the old starfox forums where most of the discussions about it weren't really about the games, but media surrounding it after all the typical topics dried up.
It was a show targeted at teens and young adults, specifically those of alternative interests and those you could call "nerds", precisely the kimd of people that used rhe internet for fun in the late 1990s early 00s
I lived on Outpost Daria in high school and would save offline versions of the web pages of the fanfic to read offline to keep the phone line free. I hated it when a page in the middle of a good story would not load and then would have to wait till I was allowed on the internet again to keep reading. I would be sad when I was allowed online and the page would be offline for maintenance then have to wait longer to keep reading.
I was fairly aware that the Daria fandom was really huge back in the late 90s / early 2000s, but I had no idea the fanfiction craze had gone up to this level, lol, or that there even was a Daria multiverse. I have no idea of of how I stumbled upon this video either but I must say you did a good job uncovering this whole rabbit hole.
On the Wikipedia Page for Shipping(fandoms), they only mention 3 fandoms as NOTABLE. Daria is one of them, alongside Xena Warrior Princess and Harry Potter.
i''m not surprised fans would be this dedicated to a late 90's-early 2000's cartoon series, but i didn't imagine there would be this much to dissect/discuss fandomwise.
Now that I think about it. As someone who was deep in the bnha Fandom and literally addicted to fanfiction the bnha Fandom did something similar. They did not make a numbered system to order alternate universes but sometimes an AU would pop up and everybody would like it so much that 100s of fics were created with the same concept and sometimes people would make fanfiction for another fanfiction. I don't know if they still do that because it has been almost half a decade sinds ive last been a dedicated fan of bnha but I think there was something very special about it. I think other Fandom do similar things like that where fans get inspired by other fans and make more fan works

I had been a huge fan of the series and had even allowed to do some fics in that series, so I asked permission to continue it. He said yes, and for me, the rest is history because oh, did I get busy!
