  • There's way too many descriptors in the name of this helmet, but here you go. Me rambling for way too long on camera about things that are generally uninteresting. Other helmets discussed:
    Shark Spartan Carbon (~$620 CDN, 2.8lbs, sunvisor)
    HJC RPHA 70 ST Carbon (~$680 CDN, 3lbs, sunvisor)
    AGV K6 ($620 CDN, 2.8lbs, no sunvisor)
    Scorpion EXO-ST1400 Carbon ($470 CDN, 3.2lbs, sunvisor)

    I love the look of the helmet. Great unboxing video. Have ridden with it yet? I'm curious about the noise and how much louder it is over your HJC... ;) I think you made a great choice. That drop down visor seem to hang a little high though., but I'm sure you'll get used to it. AND WHY couldn't they give you a smoked visor for the spare instead of another clear one!! GAH!

      Yeah, not getting a tinted visor as the spare bummed me out. I LOVE having a tinted visor just for looks at minimum. I haven't tested the helmet on road yet if you can believe it! Been raining like crazy here. Soon!

    Hey, thanks for the review. I bought the standart matt black version today. could you do a "how to" to the adjusting (11:00) of the pinlock ?
    and how do i change the cheekpads ? is it true that the helmet is broken if i pull the red emergency things at the pads ?
    sorry for my bad english, im from germany.
    thank you :)

    • @raeneshadow
      @raeneshadow  3 роки тому +2

      Hey sir! Sorry for the long wait for an answer. With the pinlock it's actually pretty easy. You see on each side of the visor there's a small metal screw where the pinlock fits in on the tab on the visor. That screw is screwed into a tab on the visor. If you turn the screw it turns a cam on the tab and makes the pinlock tighter or looser against the visor. It's pretty easy to understand if you look at the visor and the pinlock tabs :)
      With the quick release - I actually tried pulling on mine to see what would happen and yes, it DID start to break the tabs inside the helmet, so I wouldn't recommend doing that! Easy enough to just unclip it properly and leave the emergency release for the medical pros if they need it :) Thanks for the questions!

    How closely did the sizing guide match your experience? A lot of people are saying to order up but I ordered based on the chart because I was on the low end of medium. I only ask because I own a shoei rf1200 in large and it was snug so I'm a little nervous. Thanks man

    Nice looking Lid. The Scorpion has pretty good reviews. Once you have pinlock, its a must.
    Yes you wonder why they didn't ship with 1 tinted and 1 clear visor. That's one reason why I went with a new HJC this year, 2 different visors. The AGV I just got had a similar sun visor to your Scorpion, I wonder if you can adjust it to let in less light around the bottom.

    • @raeneshadow

      Thanks G! I didn't even know you replied; damn UA-cam not giving me notifications again. Good question on the adjustment; it's probably worth a look to see. I'm kind of learning to adjust by just moving my head up and down more often but it would be nicer with the temps around here if I could sacrifice some airflow on the face for a little more coverage on the shaded area.

    • @raeneshadow
      @raeneshadow  3 роки тому

      @@arlittle13 Honestly it's hard to knock the quality of the Shoei. You know you're getting a top quality helmet and there's no questions, but you're also paying for it. If you do decide to take a chance on a slightly lower-price helmet that's not as marquee-brand you may get a good result, but in this case the GT Air is going to probably be as loud as the Scorpion, simply because it's designed to flow so much air at speed. The air flow itself is going to increase the noise factor. I haven't ridden with the GT Air to compare, but that's my uneducated guess. Let me know what you go with!

    Can you tell us if the drop down sun visor is "doing his job" please?
    I have the sensation it can be useless versus the sun reflected...is it enough?

    • @raeneshadow
      @raeneshadow  4 роки тому +8

      Yeah, you're not far from the mark - because it doesn't go that low, the instrument cluster and everything on the bars is in full sun to your eyes at normal head position while riding. So it's a little disconcerting to look down and see bright instruments and look up and see darkened road. But the tinting is not that dark - almost like a mild set of sunglasses - so when it's very sunny I want a bit more tint.
      That said because the sunvisor doesn't drop that low it allows good airflow past the face and even at stoplights I can open the visor and leave the sunshade down and still feel like I'm getting good airflow. So it has pluses and minuses in that respect.

    • @mckricks1
      @mckricks1 Рік тому

      @@raeneshadow Great point there at the end. So what do you think about it now after riding with it some time? I'm strongly considering the Shoei RF-1400. But this is a possible choice too. Had a sport-touring helmet like this before and it felt kind of big on the head due to the shape. Does it vent good and cut through the wind nice? Is it quiet? Also how did you get it for $470? Happened to just run in to a good sale? Cheapest I'm seeing on Fortnine at this time is $567 CAD.

    • @raeneshadow
      @raeneshadow  Рік тому

      @@mckricks1 I just doublechecked my Fortnine invoice and yup - $491 out the door, surprisingly! It must have gone way up in price, which is sad. I still think the inflatable cheeks are more gimicky than anything, I still don't like the sun visor drop down height, but other than that I think it was a good deal and for the price would probably do it again. I don't have a good point of comparison with loudness of other helmets so I can't compare much there, but I would expect a Shoei to be quieter. This does vent well enough for me but again - not a lot of points to compare with - and I ride in Canada so a ton of heat isn't usually a problem for me :) One of the major points for me was the helmet weight, I really wanted a LIGHT helmet.

    • @mckricks1
      @mckricks1 Рік тому

      @@raeneshadow Yep, the current economy must be the reason for the price hike, like with many other things going up. I was excited to try this one on and test the inflatable cheek pads. Was disappointed. Did not feel significant difference and the area that was inflating was not where it should have been. Sun visor drop down height was a big fail too. Not sure how they could design it that way when this is one of their premium helmets. Ended up getting a Shoei Rf-1400. I'm also in Canada so will hopefully properly test it out soon!

    I bought a Ruroc Atlas 2.0
    And i couldn't be more disappointed.
    Let me get the good out of the way before I bash it.
    It looks amazing. Thats it. Thats the good. I paid $500 for the graphic. The padding is absolutely lousy. I can feel the pins where it snaps to the helmet all around my head. Honestly I could fold some toilet paper and it would be better padding.
    The wind noise is RIDICULOUS. Its unbearable over 40mph. And the air flow isn't even good enough to make up for it.
    Every other time I pull the helmet off my head the pad pins un snap.
    General feel of the helmet is so crap.
    Keep in mind... this is my second helmet ever coming from my exor420
    A $150 helmet.
    I wrote Ruroc a very strongly worded email about it, how could a $150 lid be leaps and bounds better than a $500 one? Leave it to a snowboarding helmet company to screw up making a motorcycle helmet. Im honestly not even sure it would protect me in a crash.
    Anyways I can't wait to get this helmet. And great video.

    Lo siento pero estoy harto de buenas reviews de este casco. Acabo de recibir el mío tras mil videos hablando bien de este casco, y o bien están comprados, o bien emocionados por estrenar casco, pero desde luego no es un buen casco para nada. Las terminaciones son terribles. La capa de fibra de carbono de la calota exterior es muy muy flexible. A mano se nota como se hunde la parte superior de la visera. La pantalla solar está atascada y si la logras hacer bajar es con mucha fuerza, para luego encima caerse sola poco a poco. El cierre es malo a nivel constructivo. Y como guinda, es ruidoso. Lo único bueno son sus 1200 g de papel de fumar....

      Translated to English and wow, that's a pretty harsh indictment - you sure you didn't get a knockoff by accident? I certainly can't push the carbon in by hand (if you could, you would have plastic, not carbon; carbon fiber doesn't bend like that unless you've already cracked the resin). I haven't experienced that with the visor either - mine stays where I put it.

      @@raeneshadow Hi. Thanks by your reply. Carbon fiber, in fact, flects when the thickness of the layers is one sheet. Helmet is not cracked, such it is unboxed. I can ensure that is only one bidirectional fiber carbon layer since if you put a light (mobile flash i.e.) under the area of the UV retractable lens, you can see points of light between each node of fiber... One thing is clear, foam is light, windshield is as light as on every helmet, and tissues are almost the same. As a result you only can save weight from the fiber. So, if you compare two same-sized, and same type of helmet from different brands,both in carbon, and 200g in difference. Most of those grams, are saved in carbon tissue. This is a fact....
