UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Romero (also known as UFC Fight Night 70) was a mixed martial arts event held on June 27, 2015, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
The event was originally expected to be held at the Ginásio do Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil. However, on May 15, the event was moved to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
A welterweight bout between Rick Story and Erick Silva was expected to serve as the main event. However, after the initial venue change, the bout was moved to a co-featured slot and the event was headlined by a middleweight bout between former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and 2000 Summer Olympics silver medalist in freestyle wrestling Yoel Romero.
This was the first UFC event, headlining Romero in the main event. He knocked out Machida at 1:38 of the third round with a series of elbows from top position. Romero was awarded a "Performance of the Night" bonus.
Romero went in the UFC at a late aged man.
Had he started in his twenties, he'd a been a champion for a long time. Soldier of God 💪
I wanna see a Prime Anderson Silva try to avenge Machida’s loss to vs a Prime Romero. I know the time lines all screwed up but that would be a good matchup.
@@genieofdalamp Nah,Anderson Silva will perish 😂 Leave the man alone
@@ceemor3404 I meant if he was in his prime haha Yoel looking like a tank rn lol
@@genieofdalamp Yeah I know what you meant I was bussin' a joke 😁👊🏾 It will be a hard match up for the Spider but if they had fought 10 years ago, that would definitely be a fight I'd buy popcorn, beer and pizza to watch with my buddies 😎
Good grammar 😆
Machida was a shadow of his former self by this point. Looks very tired. Moves slowly. Punches lack that crisp snapping power they used to have. He still had fantastic footwork and countering. But he was in there with the Beast. Romero showed a ton of respect the entire fight. Bravo to them both.
Romero was 38 here but difference between him and Machida was that Romero got better with age while Machida declined.
It's not that Machida's perfomance was lower than usual, but rather Romero's was superior.
@@nmejias370 ...watch more Machida fights lol. What even is this comment bro? He CLEARLY is not the same. What are you looking at exactly? His speed, reactions, power, tenacity, all decreased. He's still good, but come on lol
@i.be.g.3411 wouldn't matter, Romero wrecks any version of machida. Machida had zero chance of hurting Romero.
@@WaltPowellEnt your right
it might sound weird but this was one of the most brutal finishes I've ever seen, even though they were really short elbows, how he exploded like a violent chimpanzee and finished him like that was kinda scary, it's insane how much power he can generate from such a short range.
everytime i see this ko, i just think that this wouldnt be out of place in a prison yard brawl, literally took him down with ease and beat him with no mercy
I missed that kind of explosiveness in some of his other fights.
@@chakko007 the reason why he didn't try to take Adesanya down is beyond understanding
jared cannonier finish was way more vicious against brunson
Watch Weidman vs Munoz, very scary elbow and brutal finish
2 professionals at the office going to work showing mutual respect.
No professional in the office goes to take the soul of others. They respect out of fear of one another and out of the fear of losing and getting humiliated in front of the public inside the ring.
While he elbows his face out of respect lol k
@@clay7182 Lol you don't understand. I get it. That's ok. Still adorable though.
@@Dare-Knight being in this of a high conditioning , quality of their success, with their training to simply KO an opponent, not KILL. Respect is Given to each other’s Persona.
@@Dare-Knight being in this of a high conditioning , quality of their success, with their training to simply KO an opponent, not KILL. Respect is Given to each other’s Persona.
Yoel was probably the only fighter that made fighters who were much younger than him look like they're much older than him, I think even if he was juiced up it's still really impressive, it wasn't just physicality, he was really good at boxing and countering and his takedowns were really really good.
Silver medal in the Olympics. Absolute stud wrestler
@@asesinoblanco4532 bro same pfp!
he lost to izzy which is sad even tho it was close he could of become champion he totally deserve to be champion hes too strong he deserves more credit
Randy Couture…hold my beer
I heard a story about a doctor doing an xray and finding out his bones are thicker and denser than a ‘normal’ humans. I think he could have denisovian or Neanderthal DNA because he is not normal
Machida doesn’t always get finished but when he does it always looks brutal
Yeah, Machida was on the receiving end of Brutal KO's
Because he comes to fight he doesn't run and gets caught sometimes
I can only imagine how good machida was at Karate tournaments he is a beast on his feet
If you know how to search you will find some videos of these tournaments on UA-cam
WHO cares
Not enough fighters like these two. Pro's
I appreciate the respect between these two fighters.
I like less when Lyoto Machida is beaten. Kudos to Yoel Romero!
Being a Machida fan lowkey sucks
Romero was 38 here….. 38….. dude looks like he was made in a lab lol absolute unit
One of the more respectful fights out there
i wish that romero will get title belt before he retire in mma..
USADA purposely did him dirty with the whole weight cut interruption in the Rockhold fight
Yep...@@WhitePony-zu5pi
to produce THAT much power with such short elbows is insane
Man Romero just ate that flying knee to the body like it was nothing. That shit hurts man.
Yoel coulda really made a scene if he utilized that explosive wrestling more.
But he fought 90% of his fights like a point fighter.
It's the cuban way to win by points. Unfortunate because they have so much skill
Yea but he used a completely improvised attack, not a technique that wins with leverage
bounced his head like a basketball
Romero already read and understood Machida's way of fighting and The Dragon got caught. It seems that Machida lost his composure after the KO loss from Shogun and he has never been the same since then. Age isn't a factor here as well since Romero is just a year older. Both of them are high caliber fighters but not in the same level like Jones or DJ Mighty Mouse.
Yoel romero monster 💪
Steroids have a tendency to do that.
🤣
The Machida era was short lived
He was awesome though. The ability that he had to use the opponents energy against them. It was a very confusing style. Also, He was a UFC Champion.
You see what he did to Randy Couture, one of the craziest ko's in UFC history
It literally lasted for one controversial fight lol
Lyoto Machida 💜💚💜💛💜💚💛💜
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Lyoto Machida
He was way too strong for Mashida
And machida was a light heavy
he was also too strong for Machida as well
@@CARLO-ny7ni Machida don't cut weight. He lose a few pounds on the camp, but doesn't dehydrated like others fighters do, so at the fight's day he is always lighter than his opponents.
But he was faster back in days, always faster than his opponents. GSP said once that he had mesured frame by frame the speed of the fighters and Lyoto was the fastest fighter on UFC host second by BJ Penn.
@@GuzQuebec true, machida is explosive as fuck
@GuzQuebec honestly, despite being big at LWH, alot of the middle weights towered over him,
I hate seeing machida getting finished, hes such a legend
Great display. Fitting the frontal kick at long range and hammering the elbows in short distance.
Romero takes a head pinch or two to deliver significant body blows.
That guy is a scary wall coming to shut you down.
Too much Romero for a little Mashida, what a beast 💪
Little? Machida used to fight at not only light-heavyweight, but HEAVYWEIGHT! Romero was roided up here!
In his prime Machida can Beat romero by ko
Lyoto Is not in his prime anymore.
@@lc9881 Yoel is actually older, it’s just he got into mma super late
@@lc9881 Machida was in his prime here.
Lyota has such good footwork. Man floats around the octagon.
As good as Machida was on the feet, the moment he was on the ground he was like fish out of water
He’s a BJJ black belt but he was super prone to KOs whenever he was on his back. Almost instantly lol
@aquaticlibrary yeah his grappling not bad, he was able to dominate Rampage and Sokodju on the ground
In many of instances you loose the fight due to your guilty. Machida grappled Romero but couldn't dominate him and was down on ground. In ground again Machida didn't guard his head/ face and he got the result . And Romero delivered those elbows so fast that Machida didn't get any chance.
All time favorite fighter to watch. Machida is one of my top 5 and Romero makes him look like an old dad
Why is it whenever Machida gets finished ,it always looks brutal
Round 3 Romero is a different beast
This was the last UFC fight in history to feature fighters wearing their custom fight shorts with their sponsorships
This winning attack by Yoel looks completely improvised, no technique used, but very well improvised and it worked.
Lyoto is one if my favorite fighters, back inn the day when UFC games came out i was choosing him as my fighter! The Dragon is always my winner
I'm surprised it took him that long to beat him lyoto moving like a snail 🐌
Those elbows, man. I'd put on the list of things you wouldn't even wish for your worst enemy.
At 1:43 yoel gets a punch and takes it and gives lyoto one back.... XD fkn beast!
Romero built like a tank 💪
Machida is and was an artist. He has had too many fights. He probably would have beaten Romero in his prime. He looked tired when the first bell rang. Time to move on and teach the art Lyoto. Love his style. One of my favorite fighters.
Them both in their prime would of been great
He is an artist no doubt but its fanciful to pretend he would've beaten Romero in his Prime! Romero's prime was as an Olympic wrestler, he would've got a hold of Machida in the 1st round & ended it even quicker than the MMA match!
@@adeosinowo3197 I did say probably. And I wouldn't bet your life on what you said. Machida was capable of taking anyone at anytime.
@@markmahnken6409 i disagree! He was never capable of beating Jones but hardly anyone was when Jones was in his Prime!
What a powerhouse.
Respect goes along way🙏
No wonder izzy was running around the whole time because trying to chop romeros leg is like trying to chop an oak tree
When this guy was at his prime no one could beat him. I would love to have seen him against Anderson Silva at prime.
Great stoppage
Romero always celebrates like he won the lottery
Lyoto, showed too much respect.
Romero reads the move, then he explodes
Yeah Romero is very well rounded with a high IQ and he's a absolute physical specimen. I don't think Lyoto had the advantage anywhere on him to exploit because in a lot of his fights he usually has an advantage somewhere but not in this one.
And they say Lyoto fights very tricky which is true but so can Romero.
Machida looks quite slow here. 💯💯🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
UFC middleweight used to be basically heavyweights on TRT, it's ridiculous ..
Damn Machida looked like he was winning until he got taken down
Yoel and Jacare were 2 of the scariest dudes at MW for a good stretch.
Me inspira muito ! Oss

Yep, Yoel teeing off on him
That was a aged Lyoto. I would love to have seen this two go at it in earlier days.
Machidas soul was stolen by Jones since then he was finished as a fighter
@@eltoneagle8136 I think he was done after he got knocked out by Rua.
interesting fact this fight for machida was a short time after the rockhold fight where he was badly hurt he took this fight a couple of months after as the reebok deal was coming in and was his last chance to get a better pay
That was brutal
Dang proof of theres levels to this game
I would love to see Romero waiting for Khamzat at MW.
@@framboy.94 he would easily beat romero and romero is 44 to old
@@DBDYAKU khamzat would lost 😂 have you seen him struggled against burns
Romero is the kimbo we never got 😂
very good stoppage
Satisfying to watch
Machida was already tired at this point of his career. This was after the weidman title fight.
Romero always been powerful, wrestling background makes it clear but he is on steroids remember.
Lyoto ja vinha ladeira abaixo, o auge tinha passado vários anos atrás, lento, sem explosão, força e confiança
Machida held his own with yoel on the feet but when the takedow came I think machida was expecting a more technical approach on the ground .. yoel went for the finish . We'll done
Loudmouth Bisping avoided Romero from afar just like Tyson avoided Foreman. Men like these are built like bulls and are avoided for a reason.
Why is it whenever Machida gets finished ,it always looks brutal?
Fred Jacks fights looks a lot like the UFC
He wasn’t same after that jon bones choking😮😮
When i was a fan in this era I was happy to see Machida get finished because i disliked him. My respect for him grew as i grew and i miss him. His style was boring at times but he gave some ppl problems cause he had quite a few effective techniques
I had the exact opposite reaction, To me it was the art of hitting without getting hit and he was constantly engaging and finishing fights, I was introduced to him fighting in pride if you go back there you can see some really good fights of his, Is when Joe rogan said the machita era, Machida had already been fighting for his whole life in Karate but professionally in MMA probably like 5 years before UFC
He gave John Jones a hard time on the feet. Jones was losing and getting caught.
Yoel is made of granite. Damn that dude was scary.
If Romero came back to fight Bo Nickal, I’d put my money on him easily.
1:41 Lyoto catches him with that left, and it's like he hit a brick wall. Romeros head doesn't move an inch.
Yoel Romero VS Jones in this Wright división would be interesting
Romero is a Cuban, fukkin’ Godzilla.
2 legends
Machida was doing perfect. However, just one mistake is all it takes with yoel romero
Well, nobody ages like yoel romero
That might have been too early of a stoppage BUT his eyes did roll to the back of his head for a second lol
Do you have some sort of hate against machida? Bro he was done for .
@@2217251 did you not read the whole comment?
Ref was on point that night, 3 more seconds and machida could have left in a body bag.
I felt like he could have done that in the first round. They look like they were play fighting the first two rounds
Feeling out process to try and catch the habits of the other fighter and time them.
How the hell was lyoto machida always machted up ? This guy either has some very dense stuff that weight alot in him ,or he is literally less in weight. With jones seemed at least 20 pounds less here at least 35 wtf.
Honestly wish Romero stuck with the offensive grappling later in his UFC tenure.
I mean look how easy it was to just manhandle someone like Machida as soon as they clinched up.
Machida actually have connected a lot of good punch right on Yoel's chin but have no effect.
Romero is just a human pitbull
This is why lyoto needed to keep his distance no way he was out power Romero
two gentlements guerriers
Machida’s stick and move style was the shit way back when, but new fighters eventually figured him out. His style is outdated now, even boring to watch
If Lyoto was in his prime for this fight he would have destroyed Joel!
That was vicious
Lyoto Machida took a knee from John McCartney after being KO'd
post prime machida, but still impressive win
Lyoto was still tricky as hell, correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t Rob the only other guy to make Yoel use his wrestling?
he's so good at fighting relaxed with a normal pace for a couple of rounds and then explode viciously with a great timing and destroy the opponent, they definitely didn't see it coming.
I mean not all his finishes were like this, like the rockhold fight he exploded multiple times before the finish.
if him and Usman are not juiced up scientists should study their genetics
Illegal knee to a grounded fighter. 1 point deducted from McCarthy!😂🤣😂🤣
This is not the old Dragon. Looks tired. Felt bad for him here.
i love yoel
