The track has this small uphill rise after a right hand corner, then a
plateau, and then a small downslope heading to a fast straight away.
The entire track is mostly flat - it's a brutal sand track.
I timed the second moto at about 54 minutes in length.

Andre Malherbe came from behind to pass all the Americans I believe in the first moto, and finished with very bloody hands. Haven't been able to find that same video again...thanks for posting.

Well, this race is a team effort. Then again, we kicked ass and won the event. And, two years later even better when O’Show embarrassed them euros riding 500s on a 125! 🤙🏻🇺🇸
I still remember parts of the dirt bike magazine report on this race. The tabletop was talked up so much it's embarrassing seeing how small it actually is 😄😄
I remember that! I thought it was motocross action, but I'm think you're correct, it was dirt bike. The article was called American Flyers" and talked about how RJ cleared it on the 1st lap of practice, and he layed the bike sideways and took a hand off. Believe the article said the jump was 75ft long. Man what a disappointment. That was one of the coolest articles ever,

Rick Seiman's '82 MXDN story was a similar deal.One sided and completely over the top. And i loved every bit of it😅.
I just wish they'd mentioned the negatives more honestly.IIRC Magoo jumped right over another rider at one stage.They made it seem like that rider was a whiner but it actually was dangerous.
I cant remember the '81 report properly.I think it was more like genuine shock mixed with (obviously) huge celebrations, and thus had a completely different feel.
Totally useless weird factoid.About the same time in 1982 Magoo had his bee sting drama, i acquired the same allergy - triggered by a bee sting while riding a vibrating honda😄

This was the first year all three classes were mixed together. 125cc against 250cc. 125cc against 500cc, 250cc against 500cc..
Can't believe what they could do on a POS bike by today's standards. True heroes with balls of steel.
I grew up in the 80’s and the sound & smell of those tracks was almost better then sex..
