Scary Stories had just become un-banned when I started school, and really able to concentrate. The "missing toe" and the Scarecrow stories really stuck with me. Couldn’t fall asleep without thinking of those illustrations for weeks. Loved the impact of horror ever since.
I definitely missed out Matt. I think the stories would have been far more impactful if I read them as a child. The illustrations are nightmare fuel. My favorite is the corpse face, the woman on the thumbnail. That was one of my favorite stories as well.
I'm happy to hear Rotten Tommy is going well for you! I still have to start it 😅 I agree that one of the best parts of Scary Stories to Tell In the Dark is the illustrations! Soooo creepy, especially for kids haha I too have only read the first one but would love to read the others!
Love Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Her Heart Beats For Ancient Beasts sounds interesting, and the cover is stunning. Salem's Lot is one of my favorites by King. I'm thinking of rereading it this month. I just watched the 2024 Salem's Lot on Max & it was absolutely awful. I should have stuck with the novel and the 1979 Tobe Hooper miniseries adaptation. Great video, Cliff!
Thank you so much Jen! I loved the creepy illustrations for Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark more then the stories themselves. Ancient Beasts was a fun collection. I might try and read another by the author this month if I have time. I have heard only negative reviews of the adaptation, will give it a skip. Happy Reading! 🎃
I haven't read nearly as many Stephen King books as you, but for me it probably comes down to Salem's Lot or The Stand. I think I might give a slight edge to The Stand because of its scope. They are both great books.
That trilogy of books is banned and was banned or restricted when I was young in the 80s and it originally came out and those illustrations by StephenGamell were nightmare fuel It says on the book that I got from the library ages 9 and up so grade 3. I'm a Gen x kid so that's just how we rolled those Liberty mommies are scarier than this book I've never been one for censorship so banning what people can read really ticks me off
Hi Jamie, did not realize that the books are still currently banned! I did learn that at one point the original illustrations were "replaced" with tamer versions. This upset a lot of people. They are indeed nightmare fuel. Banning or censorship in any form also upsets me.
Believe it or not, I have never read Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. I have put a hold on a library copy.
Hey Greg, there are a couple of "creepy" stories but the illustrations steal the day for me.
Excellent one, Cliff! Looking forward to our chat tomorrow. 💯
Thanks mate, gonna be awesome!
Nicely done and I love the art! ❤
Thank you Nicole. The artwork is so creepy.
That art looks amazing!
Thank you so much!

Loved the update Cliff! I imagine Salem’s Lot is a great reread.
Thank you Chas! It was great re-reading Salem's Lot so many years later.
Thanks Cliff. Salems Lot is Awesome. Gonna check out the others 😎👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed the video Pearce! The other books are awesome!
@@CliffsDarkGems Thanks Cliff 😎👍🏻
I have never read Scary Stories to Tell on Dark but I think I need to. 👻🖤
I enjoyed the read Leslie. Just be warned that the stories themselves are very middle-grade. The illustrations are the highlight for me. 🖤🖤
Nicely done Cliff. i dont remember it well but i did read scary stories to tell in the dark a long time ago!
Thanks mate! I kinda wish I had that opportunity!
@@CliffsDarkGems along with almost all goosebumps books! I was addicted as a kid!
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is so silly BUT it's amazing for nostalgia. Also, one of the most banned books in the US, which... no.
Agreed, some of the stories are silly but the illustrations are awesome nightmare fuel.

Thanks for watching Angyl! Rotten Tommy was fun, definitely have thoughts. The Scary Stories illustrations are the best part.
I’m scared of those illustrations now mate 😅
Agreed mate, they are terrifying! 😂

‘Salem’s Lot is probably my favourite King book so I’m looking forward to the chat.
Thanks Mark, it is a terrifying novel.

Thanks for watching Stuart! The Stand is definitely my favorite King book. I love the characters and story.

@@CliffsDarkGemssorry I may be mistaken I don't think it's currently banned
I don't think I explained that correctly
@@jamieserrano827 No problem at all. Love the discussion! 🖤 Love chatting dark, scary stuff with you. 😄
Well I guess Salem's lot a 5th place slide in my Stephen King list
My favorite Stephen King since last August was Carrie
Salem's Lot is in my top ten. My favorite is The Stand.
