He's known as a volume trainer who didn't train "heavy" yet here is pressing incredibly heavy weight for reps
He was stronger than most realize. He was doing this for reps, which means it wasn’t even close to his maximal lifting amounts.
He grew up on a farm so he def had a lot of raw strength. add some gear into the mix and wooooo
He was really strong in 2007 too. I believe that was maybe his strongest year, or one of. There were definitely years he wasn't able to press as much weight, so his strength depended more on the year and his weight. Jay is a very very strong guy though. When you have as much muscle as him you're always going to be able to move some weight, that's 100%.
Jay never went heavy and never needed to, but you can see the way he throws around 170's he was very very strong. No doubt could have done a few reps of 200 if he cared to.
Yes he lifted with perfect form and control.
He could definetly press the 200´s in the offseason if he wanted too.
But he was smart and look at him now. He can still enjoy lifting and be in good shape and good health😁👍

Use this video as your own exercise manual at the gym. You’re being coached by one of the best bodybuilders ( I mean obviously you wouldn’t be able to toss around 170bs like jay) but at least you’ll get an idea on how to properly execute the equipment the right way.

21:20 Don’t think this is cheating because jay isn’t stretching his arms upward completely, he’s actually taking the pressure off of his arms and transferring it into the pecs . ( the key is to not lock out your arms because in doing so your adding a lot of added stress into your arms and that can cause you to burn out your arms or worse drop the bar down onto your face or chest, keep the pace locked mid range to specifically target the chest, while doing decline).
