Just as you can learn to aim while holding ADS, you can learn to un-ADS with toggle. Holding ADS feels more responsive, more controllable, but toggling ADS feels more relaxing and more relatable to everyday mouse useage. I think one of the biggest challenges with this is that I’m accustomed to feeling the difference between ADS’ing and not ADS’ing, especially where ADS and slightly slower mouse movement is connected in my brain. It helps me subconsciously connect two drastically different aiming methods with two different “feels” of the mouse.

Most shooters have it so that if you start sprinting, you automatically un-ADS your weapon. I usually use that instead of toggling ADS back off. The exceptions are more hardcore shooters like Insurgency or Hell Let Loose that have a "Hold Breath" mechanic that's usually bound to the same button as your Sprint while ADS'ed. Sometimes you can change the keybind, sometimes not, so that takes some getting used to.

I think it is preference. Toggling ads has the side effect of noticably interrupting the mouse movement when toggling the ads. Also, holding ads can give you an edge, because its disadvantage is an advantage as well. More friction can give you control if needed, also, the middle finger can help you move the mouse more effectively. I don’t think one is better than the other.

When it comes to more control during ADS, this is why I always like to set ADS sensitivity to 0.5x hipfire sensitivity if the game lets me. People always say it ruins muscle memory, but I've done it for so long that I basically have two muscle memory modes: Hipfire and ADS mode.

    • @bit_ronic
      @bit_ronic 2 роки тому +7

i've actually kinda found that it's mostly dependant on the game you play.
most games slow down your sens a bit while ads'ing, so the less control you have is mitigated by that, at the same time, games that rely around the ads mechanics tend to be snappier and faster than those who don't, not only due to the speed of the game, but also because they have this trend of makung hipfire absolutely useless compared to aiming.
this is kinda why games like cod, r6 and bf use holding ads by default, since you need that kind of agility while switching between "neutral" and "aiming, while others like csgo and val use toggle, since their aim mechanics mean that hipfire is the focus, and the increased need for precision makes a significant margin of difference, should you scope in, and also due to the fact that you can't even sprint in those two games.

When aiming down sights you aren't moving the crosshair hardly at all, otherwise you shouldn't have aimed down the sights in the first place. This means that the miniscule amount of friction applied during toggle ADS is very unlikely to cause a malfunction in hand movement. Also, ADS tends to have a slower sensitivity then when not aiming, meaning that a quick turn takes longer to do with toggle ADS if you are already looking down the sights.

    • @yowza234

From my experience theres 2 things I've noticed.
For toggle I've noticed the benefit of being slightly more relaxed. As for hold which I prefer more I've noticed the responsiveness and control of going in and out of ads is vastly better, because you are able to go in and out by just pressing and letting go instead of having to do twice as many actions for the same effect. Training your self to be relaxed when holding ads is also alot easier than speeding up multiple clicking actions.
I've experimented with this pretty extensively and came to a conclusion that toggle has short term benefits but in the long run if you learn to just relax hold has a higher skill cap and is much superior in the flexibility and control it gives you during fights.
Especially in apex when ads-ing for a second boosts ur hipfire acc for a second or so after leaving ads. Being able to spam in and out of ads on lmgs or ars that dont have amazing hipfire can give you massive advantages in close range fights. And doing that with toggle is extremely hard and uncomfortable, and having to click so much in quick succesion will just do the opposite of the goal u had for it and make you even more tense. The workaround could be to have a dedicated toggle ads button that u would use for mid/long range engagements when u can benefit from being more relaxed. But still having hold for close range fights. Would probably take a decent amount of getting used to and might require autoexec setups to work.
Sorry for the wall of text, dont have time to summerize/streamline the comment
Edit: theres also the option of binding hold ads to space or shift which was fairly popular in quake back in the day. They would most frequently bind ads to space and jump to right click. Ive experimented with this aswell, while fun, it doesnt work for every game

    • @BeerDone

Yeah, I remember going into toggle-ADS for a while, but gradually pulling back into hold. Toggle may have some physiological advantage, but holding to ADS has a procedural advantage that I just couldn't get past, especially in faster games where even the smallest delays can interfere with movement.

    • @piev4166
      @piev4166 2 роки тому +2

I definitely relate to the control part when holding ADS. For me, the added friction to my mouse seems to help me be more precise with my aim at medium-long range. I've tried toggle in the past for a while but I noticed I would always overshoot when dragging my aim to the target because my mouse would feel so frictionless. I do believe, however, that you could overcome this with practice and getting use to but, honestly, I'm scared that it would take too much time for me to the point I decide it won't even be worth it.
On the other hand, I can definitely say that smoothly tracking a target from a distance is almost impossible when holding ADS, at least for me. I always see myself microflicking to my target. Although it has improves my flicking in general, I think that toggling ADS would make smooth tracking way easier.
Right now, I mainly play Escape From Tarkov, a relatively slow paced shooter, and I still use hold so do you have any advice for me? Do you think that switching to toggle will be worth it for me?

    • @BebxOfficial
      @BebxOfficial 2 роки тому +2

big agree, hold usually has higher skillcap in a majority of games. there's a reason in r6s people are even swapping from toggle to hold _lean_ , hold is just that much more flexible.

    • @dokkie9979
      @dokkie9979 2 роки тому

@@piev4166 I've never played tarkov so I can't really be sure. Some games work better with toggle. Games where you hold angles for long periods and games that have slow weapon handling by nature. Imo hold always has a higher skill ceiling regardless of what type of game it is. But in some games it has very minor benefits over toggle. Like val for example. Or a mil-sim like Squad. Those two have extremely minor benefits using hold but toggle is alot less straining when holding angles for extended periods of time. Its honeslty just something you have to experiment with. Dont be afraid to change things up, even if it doesnt work out, itll be a learning experience. Humans improve by making mistakes and learning from them. But u wont know if its a mistake or not unless you try.

it makes sense in games where its easier to expect where enemies are coming from (for example csgo, valorant, rainbow six siege), but i've noticed tunnelvisioning and increased reaction time for lack of a better term is a problem for faster movement/closer combat games (like CoD, apex legends, and even Battlefield). I have a pretty sweaty perspective though and i think if you want games to be something that should be a calm activity for unwinding after a stressful day you should probably stick to toggle ads if you dabble in both categories.

Pick up your cross and follow Jesus! The world is quickly headed for destruction, and sooner or later you will have to sit at the judgement seat and give an account for your actions. Belief in messiah alone is not enough to grant you salvation - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36). Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life! - Revelation 3:20.
Contemplate how the Roman Empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13. Revelation 17 confirms that it is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years going back to Babylon and before, C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate once you start a relationship with God tho.
Can't get a response from God? Fasting can help increase your perception and prayer can help initiate events. God will ignore you if your prayer does not align with His purpose (James 4:3) or if you are approaching Him when "unclean" (Isaiah 1:15, Isaiah 59:2, Micah 3:4). Stop eating food sacrificed to idols (McDonald's, Wendy's etc) stop glorifying yourself on social media or making other images of yourself (Second Commandment), stop gossiping about other people, stop watching obscene content etc and you should get a response. I categorise my keybinds in two ways: Active and Inactive keybinds (Can't think of a better way to name them):
    - Active keybinds are keybinds which I Actively use alongside other actions, which have to be pressed quickly, or in quick succession, or which are reaction-based, e.g the Left mouse button, mouse wheel, sprint, WASD, ect.
    - Inactive keybinds generally involve actions such as "Use", "Scoreboard", "Throw grenade", "view map", ect. These are actions which rarely directly aid in a heated battle, and therefore it's not as important to have them bound to "good" locations, e.g I could have "Use" bound to "B" and it would have close to no impact on my game performance, at least in most games.
It's different in each game of course, but categorising keybinds like this allows me to essentially bind things according to their importance. What's more, there are of course these "gray areas", such as the Toggle/Hold ADS action. I would still classify it as a "Active" keybind (in most games) regardless, or I'd make a 3rd category if there were more than 2 of these keys (Crouch).
I think the downside of toggling ADS is that in the heat of a battle, you have to press things 2x as much, costing you SOME time, it's not a significant amount of time in most cases, but it does technically make you "slower", especially if you have to aim in/out multiple times in quick succession. It's like if you had to double-press W to sprint - if you were suddenly getting shot at from an unknown angle, it would take you minimally more time to get away.
This entire topic is all about very small details, such insignificant details that in practice it would likely change close to nothing. Play with what you're comfortable.
If you want, you can take guesses as to what would be "objectively best" for a keybind, but ultimately I think it's better have keybinds which you find comfortable above all else. The lack of comfort in itself might result in more harm than good, start in a 100% comfort zone, and gradually see what you can "get used to", and what would just permanently make things "uncomfortable".
    *Here are my general keybinds:*
Grenade: 4 (Or E if possible)
    Side Mouse Button 1: Gear 1/Ability 1
    Side Mouse Button 2: Gear 2/Ability 2
    Sprint: Alt/Double-press W
    Crouch: SHIFT
Prone: Capslock (ALT if sprint is set to double-W) (I hate CTRL!!!)
    Map: C
Scoreboard: Tab unless there's a better option (e.g Press For Menu/Hold For Scoreboard like in BF1)
Use: F/G (Just depends on the game, e.g in Valorant I'd have F as my "Ultimate Ability", but if there are no other keys it'll be F)
    Scroll Wheel Up: Weapon 1
    Scroll Wheel Down: Weapon 2
Scroll Wheel Press: Melee/Weapon 3 (Depending on game)
My alt key for Melee would probably be Q or CTRL, honestly I've yet to find an alternative key that I like besides Wheel Press.
I always have ADS set to Hold (The extra friction actually helps me aim with more precision, I wouldn't have it any other way since I already apply pressure on the mouse on distant targets)
Sprint is set to Toggle when possible (Same argument Garbaj used, it frees up a finger)
Crouch is set to Toggle/Hold (Depends on the game, I rarely crouch in any games so I'd have it set to Toggle, otherwise I'd have it on Hold)
My reasoning behind these kinds of binds is 1. Mostly comfort, but also 2. Based on the importance of that key in the specific game. For example, in Battlefield1, being able to go prone quickly is pretty important, so I'd have Prone set to Alt since my Thumb is free 99% of the time. "Secondary Weapon"/"Swap Weapon" is a good alternative for ALT, but it depends a lot... I only like Sprint/Prone for ALT.
    *Other keybinds people use:*
Space set to "Voice chat toggle".
Scroll Wheel Down set to "Jump".
E set to "Sprint" (Sometimes I set it to this, depends)
W/A/S/D set to E/S/D/F (Can even try R/D/F/G) (People do this for extra keys on the left side, I personally like it, but I'd probably never do it myself)

This would be great for someone who plays claw on controller. The reason being is that the least amount of tension and stress on the hand you playing claw on, the better. It makes it more comfortable for awkwardly reaching buttons and for movement. Not only that, but the hardest thing about learning claw was pressing the triggers, it wasn't comfortable at all until I used my ring finger to press the trigger. I'd love to run a blind trial on stuff like this. So many factors involved, type of mouse, surface and frictional coefficients from multiple devices/pads, DPI and mouse sampling, etcetera... This reasoning is very cogent, but I'm not convinced. Your aim could be improving just from playing more and subconsciously thinking about this "trial" you're running. Even by your logic, if your brain is needing to focus on it more [remember you're not thinking about your challenge the same way literally no one thinks 'the mouse drag is worse' when they have the right click button depressed] "worrying about it" (even in the background) then clearly it's effecting something. Blind randomization might be able to sus out the immense bias, but I wouldn't be shocked if the result shows things like when and what we last ate has a stronger correlation to good mouse aiming.

It’s physically impossible to press a button on a mouse without changing the underlying pressure and therefore resistance to movement on the pad in at least some way, because there is a threshold of resistance within the switch as “actuation force”, which necessarily has to pass through the body of the shell to the pad until it meets suffice resistance, as dictated by laws of physics.
It may be that you do not notice it or it does not negatively affect your experience, but it is there all the same.
If “no effect on aim” for in game actions is “absolutely paramount without compromise”, then it’s optimal move all actions off the mouse buttons. But there is also convenience and familiarity to factor it along with the frequency of such actions for any game’s requirement, which is why neither setup is objectively superior in the full picture, especially since toggle aim has games approaching the return states in different ways (such as some allowing sprint out of ADS, others not etc)

    1. It's more natural. If you make a non gamer use the mouse for the first time, they will almost always prefer hold ads
    2. For a fast paced game like apex where using ADS slows you down, you have to press the right click again to move faster which is a disadvantage
One solution would be to rebind your ADS to a keyboard key, but then you sacrifice movement.

I can't agree with this. Coming from CS, I used toggle on nearly every game with the option. However, I've been playing on hold at a high level in games like Valorant and Apex Legends and the key factor that made me switch over is how hold allows you to transition between aimed or not as fast as possible. This is very important because these micro-decisions are what win you fights in apex and valorant; there's much more to it than simply aim, which can be trained and you get used to the extra tension from holding the mouse button down. Being ADS'd affects things like your movement speed which will at a higher level be significantly more important to have control over than your aim which won't really struggle that much with holding down the extra button. Those microseconds matter.
edit: I'd like to add that in games where you're ADS'd for extended periods of time like in R6 or Tarkov toggle makes a lot more sense; but in fast paced shooters hold is the way to go. Movement is king.

This isn't entirely true and i'll explain why.
If you're using toggle sights you're far more likely to lose fights due to the reaction to click timing, which is longer vs reaction to release(Sounds strange but it's true.)
This means you're more prone to be zoomed in and not being able to react fast enough to zoom out once you hit a range where it's doing more damage than good.
While pressure can affect your aim you really shouldn't apply more force on the switches than they need, otherwise you're at severe risk of damaging your hand and wrist by playing video games.
At that point i really suggest running aim trainers and focusing entirely on being relaxed in your fingers and wrist.
The difference between casual, pro and top tier aimers are basically how relaxed and aware they are of how their mouse hand feels.
Being relaxed won't only save your health, it will make you hit more consistently.

I switched to hold ads about a year ago because of valorant. The OP has a second zoom so with toggle zoom it takes 2 clicks to unzoom (unless you pull of a knife, but that is still 2 button presses to get back to your primary unzooomed). Where as if you use hold zoom you can instantly unzoom. This may seem insignificant but it feels so much snappier to play.

@@puppieslovies let me tell you why that was not only arrogant, small & narrow minded and stupid but also why you are wrong.
1: some people simply don't have the money for, a tower, a high refresh rate monitor, a mouse and keyboard, a mouse pad, a desk, a decently comfortable chair. meanwhile if you have a tv, all you need is a console for a small fraction of the price
      They might have other priorities
      - Bills
      - Kids
      - Business saving plans
2: some people want to sit comfortably on their sofa with their hands relaxed, after a long hard day of work, or looking after the kids or going the gym.
3: some people simply don't have the space, maybe they live in a small apartment, a shared room, or they move a lot and it's simply not viable to take a whole PC set up since the next place you go might not have a desk or somewhere comfortable.
4: some people like to come home and play together with their wives girlfriends or best friend sitting side-by-side on a two seater sofa passing the controller back and forth every few games talking about each other's gameplay and spending quality time while also filling that ''me'' time at the same time. I mean someone like you wouldn't know about that kind of thing.
5: some people grew up with a controller in their hand, Think of call of duty for example all of those montages of trick shots we're all on consoles and even to today's standards are respected in the PC community for their skill
6: some people can progress much easier than others, someone might only have three hours a week while someone else has 35 hours a week, and yet the guy with three hours could be better even though the guy with 35 plays a lot more, that's a fact not an opinion.
7: some people hit progression walls you play a few hundred hours of your favourite game and then to actually progress and get any better you need to do aiming training, meanwhile others just infinitely get slightly better every day, that person could be a controller player while the other person could be a mouse and keyboard player and vice versa.
8: there are close range and hip fire benefits to playing on controller in a lot of games due to the nature of it, you hear pro players complain about this fairly often.
9: there are quite a few pro controller players who absolutely smash and annihilate PC players, especially in Apex, do your research and you'll see for yourself.
10: some people don't want the hassle of a PC, viruses, upgrades, needing to sit in a chair, needing to have your arms fairly elevated, slow pc's, meanwhile with a controller you can relax your arms in any way you want you can kick your legs up and lean back in any way you want. Not to mention that if you bought a PS4 when it came out up until last year that was the best console you could get and therefore had no reason to upgrade since it literally has given you no problems for six or seven years, the bare minimum of clean it every 2 years and buy a spinning disc drive of 5 terabytes once for cheap as fuck.
11: you can take a console to a friends house and provide fun for everyone there, with a PC that is not only awkward but hard to transport, a console will fit in a normal backpack with all the wires and a few controllers and a headset, while not being all that heavy. You know, socialising in person? Crack a beer or have a meal in between?
12: some people just generally prefer the feeling of a controller it's a different way to interact with the game, it's a different experience something that a lot of people generally genuinely might enjoy more than using a mouse and keyboard hunched over a monitor severely overpriced at that for a decent size and refresh rate.
13: this is a minor one but in game chat sucks and for a lot of slow PCs having open Google Chrome can eat a lot of power, meanwhile PlayStation and Xbox have party chats which are extremely easy and reliable.
And I know the only thing you're going to have to say about all of this is PC Master race, but I get more frames, but I'm rich or my dad paid for my PC and I live in a first world country or I'm a lot more above working class then I realise. I can't believe you took the time to write this oh my God, but the fact of the matter is you just got absolutely destroyed and you should probably take some time to re-evaluate the way you think of things and have a little bit more compassion and understanding and widen your mind two possibilities before you make yourself look a fool.
I'm not saying PC isn't more powerful, but at the end of the day if the game exists on console and PC 95% of the time it will run just as smoothly and be just as fun. The true benefits of PC is games like MMORPGs.
I like PC and I like console, there are games specifically on PC that cannot be played on console but to say that you don't take yourself seriously as a console player is just genuinely so unfair and disrespectful to those more unfortunate or their preferences.

extra friction is desirable when aiming. It gives more resistance, therefore allows finer movements. Our hands are good at putting out force, but when the we need to change that force just slightly, it'll fail to do that. With more friction, you are able to put more force for less movement, which is exactly what you need while ADSing

    • @kylefreeman9767
      @kylefreeman9767 2 роки тому +1

More importantly, your established muscle memory is used to that force being applied and builds brain pathways to actively make the actions more refined. Plus, none of this matters because you should be aiming with your elbow anyways.

For toggle u can use set/ reset gate ... look kinda longer than the AND gate so the current flow abit slower... this is my theory, its not "better" to that considerable

Hold ADS and toggle ads on controller does make a difference. I use toggle ads because it frees up the left trigger to be used for things like grenades or other equipment. If you use hold ads on controller it needs to be a trigger or bumper button because otherwise you can't aim and use ads at the same time. But if you use toggle ads then you can actually map it to pressing down one of the joysticks which works very well in classic games like Halo and still works amazingly today also in Halo and other games

Imo, it actually depends on your mouse device holding type. There are mainly to kinds of it: completely laying your hand on a mouse (usually a big one) and moving it with a hand+arm, another one, that I use, is holding your mouse (usually a small or light one) with only 3 fingers (thumb + ring + pinky) and moving it with only a hand. First one holding type already creates quiet a lot of friction, and usually ppl use very high sensitivity with it, barely picking up mouse for repositioning it on a mouse pad - here you can use w/e ADS you want, holding right button won't change friction that much. Now the other holding type is about having medium-high sensitivity and constantly picking up mouse with 3 fingers and repositing it to some default place on a mouse pad - here hold ADS is a big NO, b/c sudden increase in friction will mess up with your aiming - you can't really control how much force you apply to the right button in tense situations, so variable friction will lead to variable sensitivity when aiming. Also holding any button prevents from picking up and repositioning mouse.
