Thank you. I loved the rapid fire of this. I am going to check out your channel. I don’t want to sit and watch a backstory all the time! Haha
Absolutely agree @eeericaa!!!
Agreed
I've had maybe 6 palms without good luck however I'll try again in a few weeks thank you for the video
Thank you you was direct and to the point.
🌴🥰Bought my 1st baby YESTERDAY!!! Thank you so much for the TIPS!💚
Thank you for the video. It was short sweet and to the point good job.
I just got my palm tree today. I was looking for a video about taking care this tree and found your video.
Bought mine today 😊😊😊. Thank you for the advice.
Hi . I've got an indoor palm tree. Only for 2 months. Only feed it once. But water once a week. It's winter. I like your video.
Excellent presentation. Thanks for sharing your insight!
Thank you! Just picked it up today.
Basic and direct… excellent
Thank you. Just purchased two and was wondering about plant food. Thanks for the great tips.
Palms are my favorite plant. I revere them above all others. To me they are simply the most beautiful plants in the world. From palm shrubs, to potted palms, to palm trees: trees with fan leaves, to all others. I simply love them. Unfortunately I live in the north. 😢 but I have a few potted palms. All palms *love love LOVE* direct intense sunlight. The more and longer the direct, intense sunlight the happier they are. So in the summer I move my potted outdoors, and when it starts to get freezing at night, it’s time to bring them inside for the next several months.
Thanks! Awesome
I have a Cat Palm given to me by my friend. Last December, 2017, my Cat Palm bloom look like starfish and I have pictures taken. Last week I saw again the flowers while watering my plants. It’s so beautiful.
Mila Herana go light on fertilizer. Get some plant food. Make sure plant isn't getting too cold. Water weekly but do not let stand in water to prevent root rot. Consider repotting. Hope this helps.
I got one, it's beautiful 😍
Great video, straight to the point. I had my girlfriend watch it. (Hint)
Great! Thanks 😊
I heard they like humidity so I bought a humidifier and share it with my palm plant lol I hope it helps
Thank you! I am new at this!
what is the difference between "plant food" and "fertilizer" ? i'm kind of new at this
They are the same thing. What she is referring to as "Plant food" might be a lesser form of fertilizer, containing fewer of the nutrients or much more diluted form of fertilizer
It’s the same thing 😆
@@skeso2k157 ummm...it’s not tho 😆*
I have one, however, it’s dying. I’m trying to figure out how to save it.
@matti adonay I had it in a pot. It’s dead now.🤦🏽♀️
Just got one today and praying i do good in being its care taker
Ashley Sade U will do great! Just be consistent. 🍃
Enjoying, video with tips. Any ideas when to trans plant to bigger container.
Indoor palms generally only need repotting every two to three years, or when their roots fill the pot. Also, you should only go up 1 size.
Thank you.
I think I may have to add a humidifier becuz all my leaves went brittle and new leaves started coming back but they too are brittle. I didnt know about the every 2wks with plant food. I will try that thanks so much
Diana Ross mine is doing the same thing
great tips!
Nice plant
I have a Spindle Palm that I bought from a Meier(basically a midwestern Wal-Mart, if you don't know what Meier is)about 5 years ago, & the problem I'm having is that it's absolutely MASSIVE! I mean like, too big! As it is, I have it heavily tied back, & it's just grows & grows, like, if I were to let it go, it would be approx. 8 ft .tall, & the fronds would be probably spread about 10 ft wide. Coincidentally, it's always been next to the south facing picture window of my home, & I've always watered it once a week. Never any fertilizer or plant food. Obviously, it's thriving in it's current location. So much so that if it keeps growing, Idk if I'll be able to keep it, which I'd hate to have to get rid of it. I also have a Sago palm that I put outside from about April to November, & it does great. In winter though, I have to bring it inside & there's no room in the house!!! What should I think & do about this? Thanx!
Confusing, on mine the tag said plant likes low light. Yes, cat palm.
Btw, have had it for almost half year in low light and it's still doing good.
Same. I just ordered this plant because my room is bright but it won’t get a lot of direct light so I needed a low light plant and everything online this is low light...
I want one of these!
Nicely explained
Oh my gosh, I just bought one from my local nursery today and my cat is in love with it. No matter what I do she keeps chewing and 'brushing her teeth' with the lower leaves and broke a small branch off within five minutes of it being in the house! I know the Majesty Palm is cat-safe but any advice to keep her from going after it?
our cat did the same thing while we were out of town for the weekend. He ate the branches down to the point where the plant nearly died. Im not sure if its toxic to cats or if they get some sort of high from it, but our cat was acting very strange after eating our palm.
💚
I have a palm tree in my apartment. It was about 3ft tall when I got it. Now it's around 5ft tall. The tips of the leaves are turning brown and some are yellow. There are new ones growing but the but they are growing bad. What should I do?
Pinky Terzakos maybe time to re-pot the plant into a bigger pot?
Will see if this works better for me, tired of dying leaves. Thanks
I bought one of those and now all leaves look dry, yellow and brown. I bought miracle grow palm fertilizer but the palm doesn't seem to be improving. The plant is in the master bedroom by the window (not touching ) I use a humidifier at nite . Any suggestions
tammyrules2000 I know..
Thank you for the video.
I am a little confused as to when to fertilize, other sources advise to fertilize year-round
Thanks.
I'm confused now, every tip u said I was told the opposite so who's right? I thought... 1 keep in shaded area of the house 2 let soil dry out before watering etc.
Ideally, palm plants prefer it when their soil is kept evenly moist, especially during the summer months (their active growing season).
Allow the soil to dry out only slightly between waterings in the summer. During the winter, you can let the soil dry out a bit more between waterings.
Be very careful not to overwater though, this is the number one killer of palm plants. I recommend growing indoor palm plants in pots that have drainage holes in the bottom, which will help to prevent overwatering.😊
think about where palms grow....my family has a bunch in their garden in Florida...rains at least once a week so it's constantly moist
It also depends on the palm. Some like to dry out between watering and have medium light while some, like majesty palm (I think shown here), like to be kept moist with full light. Look for care tips with your type of palm in mind. This video would be a lot better if she specified.
thanks for the info I got one from costco and was curious if it needed any special treatment.
What specific fertilizer or plant food do you suggest?
thanks a lot mam god bless u
Thank you
I am wondering if fertilizer is the same as plant's food! Pardon, my ignorance to this respect... but I got certain confusion... What plant's food you use.
Thankfully,
I use Miracle-Gro plant food. You can get fertilizer which says 10-10-10. I get it at Lowe's. It is good for most plants. Plant food and fertilizer have different nutrients.
@@DonnaJoshi Thank you for your response. I was confused because for my understanding fertilizer is the same as plants food as well, and you mentioned fertilizer first and after, in addition, plant food. Again, thank you for your support.
I have a Neathe Bella palm I purchased about 2 weeks ago in a 4 inch pot. It has progressively been looking sadder and sadder and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. These plants did amazing for me in a terrarium I had made for a bunch of tiny crabs. Ive been trimming of decaying leaves and it’s just getting smaller and smaller because more dies each day. The leaves seem to dry up in some spots and others turn brown.
best
Shrivelled brown leaves is root rot. They actually don't like samp soil. They like to be watered when a good half is dry and rain water is besr
No new shoots are comming to my plam plant..what can be done..i have place it in east window
I have a very small palm plant
It is a very small plastic container I got it from a florist . Just wondering if it needs any inside sunlight thru the windows..I have it inside my house .. I got it in January. I know I will have to repot it at spring time..
Probably it isn't a plant I would put in the ground..
I know it will need some fertilizer not much I don't think.... Appreciate you answering my questions thank you.so much...
Evenly moist soil and bright indirect sunlight. :)
Thank you! I am trying this starting today because we bought two big trees a few weeks ago once I put them inside I noticed the leaves getting dried up 😭 and dying.
Plant Food, any recommendations? Thankyou for informative video.
This was recommended for me. Hope it helps.

what's the difference between fertilizer and plant food?
Janet They both carry different nutrients needed for healthy plant growth.
Thank you!
@@DonnaJoshi Can you give me the names of both of these that you use? or show photos of the products here? Thanks
I have two Chinese Fan Palm plants. I just bought them on Saturday and I’m seeing a little brown on the leaves. Help please. Thanks for the information that you provided in the video.
Hello and Happy new year! I found this link to be informative and helpful. www.metropolitanwholesale.com/chinese-fan-palm-care/
Thank you for the tips! I purchased one at Home Depot about a month ago and it's getting yellow and brown near the base of the plant.
Vanessa DeCoursey B careful not to over water. Also may need a bit of fertilizer. 😊
@@DonnaJoshi what if you've already badly overwatered your indoor palm and the leaves seem to be already dying, is there a way to save the plant? I ask because I did this and I want to make sure the plant isn't already beyond being fixed.
I have these palms on a cover porch. Is it possible to keep them on the porch throughout the winter? If so how do I protect them from the cold?
They can only tolerate cold for a short period. Therefore they do best in zones 7a and up. Google your zone. :)
Thanks for a quick, informative video! I got the palmmix from ikea and it is doing well for the most part but there’s some yellow/brown splotching on some frons. Is this because of w possibly drafty location? I’ve been staying on top of watering and it’s maybe 10 ft from a south facing door and window (where the draft is coming from).
Yellowing usually happens for a few different reasons: improper watering, insufficient light conditions, and nutrient deficiency. Pests can also cause yellowing in some cases, as can low humidity. :)
thanks for the video...very timely for me. I bought one today. Which palm food for every other week do you recommend?
Miracle-Gro Shake 'n Feed Palm Plant Food. Designed especially for palms. :)
@@DonnaJoshi Thanks :)
There are many types of palms grown indoors. The palms portrayed in this video are majesty palms. They are not good indoor plants. The stores sells them because they are cheap and easy to get. They should be grown outside to be healthy. I recommend Areca palms for indoors
wy areca? what about bamboo?
When u got your first majesty palm plant and your all proud and excited and then u look it up on youtube and see this comment😂😂😂😂🤦♀️
thats me!
Any advice if you do have one of these n it's dying? I have two actually, both are dying..
Dats me 2
I have a single window and I'm dying for one of these, but I'm afraid it'll not be enough light.
I have one of these, it got real dry and fell over so some of the leaves are bent. I repotted and watered well. Should I cut back the bent leaves or will they be ok?
If they didn't break they will be ok. :)
Mines in direct light and i water it atleast once a week yet it dries out and goes brown..
mrzazzaable if you have a majesty palm (probably shown here) they need even more water in the summer
i bought one and placed it in a corner where it SHOULD have been perfect but its started to shrivel and turn brown! Im watering, im even misting!
i COULD try to give it some plant food but other than that i dont know what im doing wrong.
We DO have a forced air system in our house so there IS a vent in the room but its not aimed right at it....it gets bright indirect sunlight too.
Indoor palms can be extremely sensitive to chemicals in tap water and should be watered with filtered water or after the water sits uncovered for 24 hours. Keeping a pitcher full of water uncovered will allow the chlorine and fluoride to evaporate. They don't like dry or wet. Try to keep evenly moist. :)
@@DonnaJoshi ohhh ok thank you so much I’ll definitely try that!!! ; )
I'm thinking of buying a house plant such as a Kentia Palm. Can I add a herb, like Mint to the same plant pot? I like the idea of adding some foliage and interest to the soil and also an aroma to the room. Is this a good idea? Would it be beneficial to either plant or is it pure madness and potentially harmful to the palm?
Since they need different nutrients I can't say how they would work together. I myself would plant garden type plants together. I have seen plants like crotons or bromeliads with palms.
my plant is turning brown on its leaves about half of the plant is like rust colored and crispy and the rest is starting to do the same. Do they need pots much bigger than they are or something
Angelica Nesbitt I’m having the exact same problem
Me too having the same problem with two of my indoor plants. Any suggestions ?
Good morning! I apologize because I know you get this same question all the time but I have a Home Depot palm and it was good for about two weeks. I watered it when we brought it home and I let it sit for a week. The tips started browning and now the lower branches have turned yellow and sagging. I took it outside and watered it really good thinking maybe it wasn’t enough water the first time. I cut the yellow branches off the bottom but now others are doing the same. We have it in an east facing window for the morning sun. It was next to a vent which I closed because of the air conditioning. We started spraying the leaves because we heard it likes humid conditions. Not really sure what to do at this point. A bigger pot? Looks like two palms in one pot. Plant food? 🤷🏽♂️ Help!!!
Here is a link which will be helpful. I think you may be over 💧 watering. :)

How do u wade off insects?
Hi, I purchased my cat palm in late February. It’s about three feet beautiful leaves. Over time the leaves are turning a dark brownish green, I also noticed a webb on some of the leaves. I sprayed the leaves with water and a drop of hydrogen peroxide mix, got a light cloth and wiped the webbings off. I also noticed gnats.
I removed a quarter inch of dirt from the top, replaced with planting rock pebbles, and feed with a bulb. I also add plant food to the water.
Am I doing something wrong? Should I use a certain kind of food? Want the leaves to go back to the beautiful green, I never had a cat palm before.
I wish she would've replied with some answers. 🤔
I bought majesty palm tree for my bedroom, I know to water it once a week and keep it in balanced sunlight I have it by the window , question is what food and when can I fertilize it or is there anything else I should do?
Use a palm fertilizer, which will contain all the required micronutrients as well as extra potassium and manganese. IT will have instructions on how much and often to fertilize. :)
I read that when reporting you should put gravel gravel at the bottom before you put soil
Berenice Torres Yes thank you .
She said only fertilize in early spring til fall and only once a month? Please explain further. Thank you for this video btw. I just bought this plant and I want it to last for a long time ☺👍🏽
Kris 10 fertilize once a month from April thru September. Plants go dormant starting in the fall around Oct. They will b dormant till Spring approx April. 😊
I have a date palm tree indoor and it’s getting dry leafs despite moist soil …. It’s on the North side .. I use humidifier to keep her moist .. why she is getting dry ?
I see a lot of comments about brown leaf tips, I’m having the opposite problem. The leaves are turning brown from the middle out and the healthy leaves look rippled. What’s causing this and how can I help my sweet guy get healthy again? He’s in indirect sun. I water him once a week. I talk to him and touch him daily. Thanks for your help. He is in a pot with drainage.
Make sure your Palm isn't near any drafts or cold. Also, they like to be kept moist not soggy. Make sure it doesn't dry out. U may need to water 2 to 3 times a week lightly. Hope this helps. 😊
Hi Donna .. Today I bought one of these plants from Walmart. It is huge .. over 4 feet tall. When I feel into the pot , I feel all roots, and very little soil. I wonder if it can stay like this .. I would hate to transplant this huge thing. Any tips for me ? thank you for your post !
NancyMbWpg You may have to eventually. U should be ok for a while. Keep an eye on any signs of stress such as drooping or leaves changing color. Use same type of soil if u repot. Any plant nursery can guide you in getting the perfect soul.
thank you !
Most plants like to be repotted in the spring so check for your specifically
Bought this today! It’s my first plant! Does it need to be in a pot that has a hole at the bottom? Mine does not and so I don’t know when to stop watering or if I need to water
Yes, the pot must have a drainage hole.
Good
😊👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you for sharing useful tips. Three days ago I perched Palm date tree and I have noticed there is little yellow dots all over the leaves, what do you think is the problem ?please help !!much love😃
How is your palm date doing ? Mine is getting dry :( despite moist soil
I have my palm for 2 weeks and i watered it onc on a Friday..the leaves have down and they are turning brown/yellow ..ughh
Where is your palm positioned in your house? I'm having a few issues with mine but I know the reasons why it is doing what it's doing.
Hi there, I’m looking to trim dead leaves from this palm & I’ve never owned one before so need help...can I trim the brown leaves off and if so, do I do that where it attaches to the main plant? Is there a best time to trim it? Thank you!
Beth Adamson-Use your pruning gear to remove dead or broken fronds from the trunk. Cut each frond at least 2 inches (5.08 cm) from the trunk. Cutting too close to the trunk can damage the tree. Remove green fronds only if they hang at an angle below a line that is 90 degrees, or parallel. Hope this helps.
Is it okay to trim the brown ends?
Palmera
I hjdrdho😘😘😍😋😍😎😘😂😋☺
I’ve got one and I’m having to re-pot it because with growth m, it’s wanting to tip over. My question is about the pot I’m putting it into. Should there be holes in the bottom? I’ve got some very large pots that don’t have holes. Thank you
I would put it in a container with holes which would fit into the pot. I have found better results. Let the water completely drain when watering then put into decorative pot. Hope this helps. 😊
We have 2 indoor Cat Palm 🌴 trees where I work and I take care of them as well as 2 Lilly plants (which have been doing amazing) but the Palms are dying.. please help me. I cut off the brown part of the leaves but now where I cut them they are starting to brown again at the tips. I do believe they need to be transplanted bc I can see some roots at the top of the soil. I also work in a warehouse which is not climate controlled so in the winter it can get as low as 50 in here. So I moved them inside the offices but the lights are motion sensored.. The lillie's do have LED lights above them. Do you think I should get more LED lights for the palms and put them in the same office together? Please help me! Thank you
I just bought the same one like yours. I put it close to the window and also to the vent. Is that going to be okay? My house is facing west.
Margaret Pratama she said NOT to do that. Why even ask?
I thought plant food WAS fertilizer.
I thought the same thing. The difference is in the nutrients. There r certain nutrients a plant needs which does not come in plant food. 😊
Loved that it was to the point -please explain what it means if the leaves are browning at the tips or yellowing is it being overwatered or underwatered? That would be so helpful
my whole plant is leaning to one side, and it was not like that when I got it. what should I do? also there are a bunch of dried up stems at the Botton that don't have leaves growing out of them... why I that? and for the completely dried up branches how do I get rid of them. and for the tips of the leaves that are brown where should I trim them?
What plant food and what is fertilizer?
Thank you for the tips! I have a large majesty palm that is about 5 feet from an east-facing window. It has been doing well for over a month, but recently the tips of the leaves have been turning yellow and brown. I have not given it any fertilizer or plant food, but I do water it regularly. Do you think it needs more light / water / fertilizer?
Sam Friedman go light on the fertilizer but, start there. Give plant food every 2 weeks. It would be beneficial for your plant to sit on the patio a few hours a day. Avoid direct sun. 😊
Thank you for the help! I live in Brooklyn, NY, so I sadly do not have a patio, but I will consider moving it to another room in the apartment with more light during the day, as well as fertilizer. I'm having a tough time distinguishing weather it needs more or less water. :/
@@samfriedman4258 then it probably needs less. are there holes for the water to drain?
Hi Donna,
I have a Palm Plant in door and.it.was growing great and all.of.a.sudden all the leaves are drying, what can i do?
Petea
Both overwatering and underwatering can cause your palm to drop leaves. Check the moisture level of the soil to determine if you're providing the right amount of water. If the soil is too wet, reduce the frequency of watering and ensure proper drainage. Hope this helps.
I bought a palm tree plant from the airport in Florida the direction said to not have direct sunlight it's dying what should I do
Hi Donna, I have a palm that I bought at Home Depot like this 12 years ago. It is probably 7 ft. tall. It has 2 tall stalks with lots of branches and is doing well however it leans all one way. I want to tie them together to make it straighter. How can I fix this? It is leaning toward the window and if I turn it, it is leaning over my dining room table. Is there a way to tie this up or cut it down?? Don't know what to do. Thank you
I just repotted it recently because the leave where browning. How often should I water and how much. It is in full sun this time of the year. I current water it every other day with a drip for 15min. pygme palm
Keep moist but not soggy. Checking it daily while outside is a good idea. :)
@@DonnaJoshi I have a moisture meter it show all the way to the right for moisture. Should I wait to the meter to be half way before watering? I drilled alot of holes on the bottom of the pot but could the holes be blocked becau the pot is flush on the ground. Should I put something under it?
I have a palm that has dry leaves one thing says to trim them off and another thing says to leave them on so what do you suggest
U can trim the tips if brown but leave a small amount of the brown so further damage is not done. If the whole leaf is brown trim it off.
How do I care for it in the winter because my house doesn’t have good sunlight in windows and I usually kept it on my front porch? Now the leaves are turning yellow and I’m thinking it’s because it’s too cold. 🤔 Please help!!!!
As long as there is some light your plant can adjust. Cut the water down to at least half or a bit less. This should help. :)
How do u take care of spider mites and a white substance that sometimes form at the back of the leaves?
First you will need to separate the plant from all other plants. You can use a cotton ball or swab and dip it in alcohol and treat everywhere the spider mites are which you can see. Word of warning sometimes it's so bad and hard to get rid of you may end up tossing the plant. In the end it was worth just getting a new one and ending the battle. It happens to the best of us. Hope it works out.
I’ve had these outside here in Texas the last 2 weeks and they seem ok . Home Depot told me they can be potted outside or inside !!!!!! Please help me
Stan Pend hi I had mine outside bit it’s cold here spring four weeks to go with lockdown lol so I just watched this brought them in see if they survive are yours inside or out
Hi Donna, just purchased two Cat Palms. Just wondering which food & fertilizer do you personally use
I use miracle grow plant food every 2 weeks and Alaska fish fertilizer 5-1-1 at half strength every 2 weeks. Both from Lowe's. :)
I am on week one and it is still alive and well.
Hello : ) I bought a Neanthe Bella Palm.. I just reported because it was too wet and starting to droop down. Can I use egg shells or coffee grounds as fertilizer??
I repotted my plant about 2 months or so ago and since then the leaves have been turning brown/yellow. Should I repot with different soil?
Did your palm survive? I hope so.
I just ordered one online at Amazon never took care of one I hope I don't kill it I allwayse wanted one but what about winter mounts it gets cold hear how can I take care In winter
Provide them with bright, indirect light and keep the soil in their containers moist most of the time. Ensure there is some humidity in the air, and keep the palm away from cold drafts. This should be helpful.
Mines outside looking sick think too cold thanks
I have a question ,this is my second majesty palm and plant mites killed the last one this one is taking the same exact oute, i planted it into a pot that you put water into the bottom of it,when i fill it at the bottom i see a couple of mites in the water...i sprayed mite killer on it but each stalk is dying very very slowly, first a lil discoloration at the ends of the leaves qhich makes its way through out the whole branch or stalk what can i do?
johnathan burnett I would try misting daily as that prevents spider mites and helps increase the humidity and keeps the leaves moist to avoid believes drying out. The problem is during winter humidity is too low so the leaves dry out and if you try to water more often to combat the issue then you lied to root rot because you’re over watering the roots
Thank you for the video
Do the leaves grow back?
Mine are getting brown and dying
Since new leaves come only at the top of the stem, a new leaf cannot grow in the same spot to replace old or damaged leaves that die. Hope this helps. 😊
if the leaves are getting brown and dying that means the spot of the plant is dry. Mist/spray water may also help
My tree has a lot of brown tips on the leaves tell how to cure.
