Great video. Classic cars are about much more than money. I worry that all the flip-focused shows have a bad influence . On the one hand they raise the profile of classics and promote practical skills (great) but on the other they focus so much on ££££. I think we all try to rationalise the money we spend on old cars and other hobbies / life passions ... but maybe its good to admit also that the hobby has a lot to do with the heart ... Great to see Peggy looking so well 👏
I think you're completely right about hobbies and I think it's sometimes extra tricky with cars because they started as things that are purposeful and somewhat utility and when it becomes you're hobby it becomes something different. But you're right, flip focused shows definitely don't help either!
Brilliant. This is the first time I have seen your video, you and your car. I am 76 now and suffering from arthritis in my fingers and knees etc so myspannering days are over. I have rebuilt my Landrover 90 (1991) with a galvanised chassis, new this and that 16 years ago and my car is 20 years old. I wouldn't thank you for a brand new car ( had some) as it is just a waste of money for today's registration. I will subscribe to your channel and see how you get on with her. Had a traveller and a two door saloon in the sixties. Loved them.
Welcome to the channel! Glad you enjoy it and I hope you enjoy catching up on some of the back catalogue! Sounds like you did some amazing work in your spannering days!
Really Becca that is money well spent. That car means a lot to you and you get a tremendous amount of pleasure and enjoyment from her. So if that work gives you another 20 years of happy motoring, then it is good value. It's also an investment for the future. You were fortunate to find a genuine restorer who has decades of experience and really knows what they are doing. I've heard a lot of horror stories ! The trouble is that the people and garages with the knowledge to work on these lovely old motors are disappearing fast. Another reason to encourage young people to get into engineering and restoration work. Very happy for you and your 'voiture '.
Thank you Nigel, I'm glad so many people are seing the exact perspective I had going into it! I too have heard lots of horror stories, so I feel incredibly fortunate!
To an outsider it may not make financial sense. You work hard and you have a car you want to keep long term. In those terms it's a bargain. If your car makes you smile every time you look or drive it then your happy. Brilliant job from a fair and honest chap.
Excellent video, very detailed explanation of the restoration process, and great advice for those considering a similar project. As for the cost, i think it's a great investment. 😊
Thoroughly enjoyed this. You describe very clearly every part of the process and the reasoning behind it. I don't think I have seen many broadcasters talk for so long without huge amounts of fluffs/edits :). I have owned and loved two Minors, and now have other classics. But the principles you extoll apply to all of my cars for sure. Here's to a long (er) life together for you and Peggy!!
Thanks you very much for watching! I'm really pleased you enjoyed it and thought I spoke well - it's always a worry with these longer podcasts! Happy motoring to you and your collection of classics!
This is an example of the best video journalism and thank you. The detailed analysis is really helpful and as you say it was specific to your dearest car but the overview is very important. The cost relative to the value is irrelevant in these situations. You do it because it is your wish and she is now unique. I have just spent nearly half of your total on gearbox and front wheel bearings (that’s Germans!).
Thank you so much for your kind comment! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Gosh I'm thinking my gearbox will be the next thing to improve and I don't want to think about how much that'll be! Hopefully I'll get a fair few miles out of this one as it is!
That’s a good deal, as you may remember, I have owned my Triumph Stag for 44years now and it’s have work during that time and a full restoration in 2014 - 2016. As you will guess it’s a keeper for me and I have Grandchildren wanting to take it on when I stop driving, so it’s complete worth doing as you may well keep this Minor as well as other cars to use as time develops. Well done you. All the best Bob
It certainly feels like a good deal if it lasts as well as I hope it will! I definitely intend on keeping this car, perhaps as long as you've had your stag!
It’s wonderful what you have had done to preserve Peggy. I completely understand the attachment you have with her. I have a 1964 Morris and am in the MMOC and the Glos club. Had mine 29 years and a few other classics I can’t part with. I follow your podcasts with interest Becca. Congratulations, Well done 😊⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you so much! I really hope I get 29years at least with Peggy! What a brilliant connection you must have with your Morris! Perhaps see you at an mmoc event in future! 😊
HELLO PEGGY. I HAVE DEALT WITH IAN FOR AROUND 15 YEARS, HIS QUALITY OF WORKMANSHIP IS FANTASTIC, HES A STRAIGHT HONEST CHAP THAT ONLY CHARGES FOR WORK DONE, HIS MECHANIC JOHN IS ALSO FIRST CLASS, THEY ARE BETTER THAN ANY MAIN DEALERSHIP. 100% RECCOMENDATION . RILEY MAN !
@@passengerseatpodcast Sorry but I forgot to mention that some years ago I had my moggy chassis overhauled .I Immediately smothered all the work with wax oil and injected the cavities. 8 years later when I sold the car all the work was still like new and rust free. There are of course other products that are available these days. My point is I feel you have made a great choice in getting the work done when you have many years ahead to enjoy your lovely car!!!!I did wonder what rust proofing you used.
@@davidanderson8407 I'm not sure on the name of the product, but he cavity waxed everything as it went back together - said the last thing he wanted was me coming back in a years time asking why it was rusty 😂 I'll be doing some underside protection too before winter 😊
What car could you buy for that money. Not much. Eco-Friendly to the max. Let's say maintenance is 1k per year, complete no brainer. Thos should be the way forward. That saves the planet. I have a 1964 2 door saloon that I do the work myself, I'm lucky to be able to do that. Apart from the full rewire. Well done. A super car, I think, a bargain.
I've spoken before how much more ceo-friendly it is keeping old cars going, so I have to agree! Amazing that you have the skills to do so much work yourself!
@passengerseatpodcast I was lucky enough to have grandparents and parents that were hands on people, blacksmith and carpenter respectively. Also my cars are not daily drives so no rush to get jobs done. Hopefully I will be out in my 69 Capri later. But there is a bit of rain about at tge moment in Essex. Thank you for your videos. Love them

£15k - about £9k on labour, about £3k on parts and then vat 😊👍
