    You can use a needle valve that goes in the line before the injector to adjust the flow rate. A spray pattern (instead of just a flow of oil) out of the injector that is pependicular to the exhaust flow will improve the smoke and oil use. Looks great ! You will Love it !

    Love the project videos these are awesome. For future tank builds it can be helpful instead of clamping the tube with vice grips to secure a balloon to that tube. The balloon will inflate as you pressurize the tank but would pop long before you can over pressurize it and you can let it sit for a period of time and come back and see if the balloon has deflated any telling you that you have a leak to look for.

    • @marcericdavis
      @marcericdavis 7 місяців тому +2

      Great technique. I use this for testing aircraft fuel tanks regularly. But also keep temperature changes in mind. If you pressurize the tank and balloon when it's hot and later check for leaks when it's cold, the balloon will look like it's lost pressure.

    Instead of blocking he vent for pressure testing, put a balloon on there. It's a safety for overpressuring plus keeps constant pressure for longer while you're looking for pinholes. Just went through this same process for a fuel header tank.

    Just in case you ended up inverted you could use a tank vent like we use on our sprint cars it uses a small ball bearing that closes when inverted.

  • @Avi8tor857
    @Avi8tor857 7 місяців тому +4

    Only time back purge is 100% required is when it is before the turbo or engine air intake, Otherwise you have to make sure to go back in and clean it as you can get oxidation that can flake off in a large enough chip to damage the turbo. For a exhaust tip, the only risk is a little more oxidation on the back side of the weld. Or on headers as the oxidation from the back side can cause stress risers and cracking with the vibration/heat cycling. One other thought you could of used Pro Seal on the inside of the tank to make sure there is no leaks. And the tank vent needs to go outside the plane and have a check valve that will not allow it to leak upside down. If you flip over on a hard landing you don't want to be sitting there with the oil draining out.

      Also probably not a bad idea to have a inertia switch to turn off the pump incase of a crash.

    Excellent idea as a way to bring a wind sock where ever you go. Also in congested situations good for visibility issues. I also wonder why pilots don't put streamers on their wings for a visual cue of the wing entering stall.

      I didn’t want to put it in before the turbo, that just didn’t seem like it would be good for the turbo, and this was the cleanest option downstream of the turbo. It seems to be smoking pretty good, so we will see if I change my mind but for now I’m thinking I will leave it as is

    Nice landing lights…
    Kinda close to the leading edge at high AOA, isn’t it?
    Let’s test the smoke machine and see if we can direct smoke in front of the lights…. To see if they are working like speed brakes, disturbing lift about 2X the width of the lights themselves….
    Placement of the oil input into the exhaust pipe matters…
    The closer to the exhaust valve, the hotter the EGT is… better for evaporating the oil.
    If you see a lot of oil all over the plane, and a weak smoke show….
    Test the oil nozzle for its spray pattern… a finer spray may help…
    Dripping oil into the exhaust pipe where the EGT has cooled quite a bit may not be evaporating a lot of oil…
    Summary, to get smoke… small droplets and high EGTs where the oil is important…
    Safety note, a gear pump can build enough pressure to blow the hose off downstream…. 😃
    😃

    Good job on the welding. Now, put some protection on your legs next time. I was TIG welding with my new to me welder with shorts and boat shoes, no socks. I had the setting too hot and had slag or something fall right down in my shoe and roll around. You will not be able to get that shoe off fast enough, trust me on this one. Other than that, excellent job.

      Ah yes, the welder's dance - I know it well.

    After watching a lot of Superfast Matt it was quite the weird crossover to see Send Cut Send here 😂

    As a commercial pilot. As someone who drives a car. If you want to be seen. Make your lights strobe. Whether you’re looking for someone on a push bike at sunset, or a plane on final or in the same cct. If you can make your landing lights strobe, that should be of your highest priority.

    Are you gonna get a new spinner for the 2 blade prop? Also, what happened to the streamlined 3D fairings that you made for the landing lights?

      I will definitely get a spinner for whatever prop I end up sticking with. I just want to wait until Catto lands on their final ideal setup for me
