Amazing! What a treat for me to see Lenny Kaye on the stage with Wilco, two of my favourites. I have also seen Alejandro open for Patti Smith, he is great too :)
3:50 - a perfect traditional Nashville guitar solo from Nels Cline. Listen to just that, and you'd never dream of what kind of music he does when he's on his own.
@@johnlittle7473 And what's crazy in that Nels's own music is not Nashville C&W, nor anything like it - it's a rackety cross between avant-jazz and indie-rock, and he's been playing different versions of it for decades. Jeff T. recruited him into Wilco because he wanted both a musical "wild card" and someone who could REALLY play the guitar, and he got both. If you don't mind strange, no-rules, no-boundaries sounds, Nels's own catalog is well worth checking out.
He has played a ton of the dead from the sound, and not stuck up on pentatonic or flat picking scales that string bending often go back to after sliding octaves and chromatic runs
@@markmacrae2867 me too. I love listening to both of them play. While Nels Cline is probably better in terms of technical ability, Jason Isbell’s playing is superb here. I’m a huge fan of Cline, and I really appreciated the shots of him smiling and turning to listen to the other players’ solos earlier in the song. THAT is class and one of the reasons he will probably always have a gig for as long as he wishes to get out there and play.
What a fantastic performance. California Stars: Come what may California will always embody America's Promised Land -- the Promised Land of the Promised Land.
...sounds to me more like the unspoken honoree was Woody Guthrie given that this song was adapted from a poem of his that he never got around to making a song out of (...or at least that's my understanding of its history)
Nah, Nels just ended up trilling on the highest fret like he always does with his standard 'look at me' guitar solo. Isbell played something really interesting both rhythmically and musically.
Too many ppl on stage, if you want to see how it's done, go watch leon Russell and 20 ppl playing and singing, this is just OK. Jason Isbell looks pissed he can't play as well as nel lol
Incredible performance of my favorite Wilco song (thanks for the great lyrics Woody Guthrie!)
I started listening in 1999! I love this ban and I can’t say enough for what is real.. country music.. this is it!!!
So good to see Rosanne.
Some of the best castanet playing ever.
Yes. Great rendition of a great Guthrie poem set to music by Wilco and Billy Bragg. Never get tired of hearing it.
Thanks for origin story
Nice line up! Love Alejandro Escovedo!
Dazzling! Awesome & amazing song, stellar cast!

Isbell. Need I say more. As the song went along his playing got better.
what a lineup! what a sound!
So great to see Sheila with Alejandro!

Word. I was only listening but actually peeked at the video to see who the hell was playing it. To blow Jason Isbell off the stage is no easy feat.

@@johnlittle7473 Weird, not what I saw at all. I saw two really good guitar players trying to complement one another instead of a competition.

The Jason Isbell x Nels Cline duet...was really pretty
Right?! Two of the greatest!
Uh, do you even know who Nels Cline is? He’s the guitar solo at the end…he didn’t sing. LOL.
Silly rabbit, guitars can duet too!

Duet.
noun
a performance by two people, especially singers, instrumentalists, or dancers
3:25 You can tell Michelle Zauner is really a fan. So cool.
She isn’t a very good dancer though. 😂
Great job Pat on piano organ there. Love those little embellishments.
Great tune, wrong key for Rosanne but she pulled it off like the pro she is. Love seeing Alejandro there. Good job 👍
it's in her DNA, literally
my goodness..... does not get better.
2:33 Bill Calahan is really vibing here
Brilliant
Unbelievable! Thank you for sharing.
You just can't go wrong with two Escovedos on the bill!👍
Lloyd Maines on pedal steel!
This song has been begging for proper steel for decades!!!
The best
So good. And I love how some of the others turn to watch him solo.
@@jeffdixon847 Exactly my thought, killer licks too!
I was there!!!❤
🤩 wow
Oh, hell yeah…
Wow! That was quite gigantic to say the least. Awesome!
Hey that's the guy from Land Ho. :D
3:25 michelle's vibe vs callahan's 🤣
💜
best rendition of a classic song sung by people reading off a teleprompter that have never heard it before that i've ever watched
Lloyd Maines!
That's what I was wondering. Thanks
I spy John Doe, I believe? Great to see him there! And of course Jason Isbell and Alejandro.
Good on yer Bill.
Oh yeah......
❤
Goddamn heavenly!
What a fantastic performance. California Stars: Come what may California will always embody America's Promised Land -- the Promised Land of the Promised Land.
That looks like so much fun. Where was Lucinda?
She tried to perform earlier in the show but was still weak from her stroke earlier in the year. Sad.
Who is on pedal steel?
Lloyd Maines! Natalie's father and he played on Uncle Tupelo's "Anodyne"--one of the greatest albums of all time:)
@@steveberry1531 Thanks!
Also a member of Joe Ely's band in earlier days.
Why you delete Japanese Breakfast live video????

Jason Isbell just got owned by Nels 🤙🔥

@@markmacrae2867 they make a great team
What happened to Lucinda?
She may have had to rest after her performance. I was just reading she had a stroke a while back; she did great :)
She tried to sing earlier in the show. Fought her way through half a verse. Stroke. Sad.
Woody Guthrie, right?
Coldplay can disband right now, no need to wait 3 years. lol

Wilco was so much better with Jay...Noodling Nels ruined them for me.
What a bore fest...
Your not high enough
Kinda have to agree with you on that
Tim Walz is the shit!
