  • Dec 11, 2021 - Chicago is the only city in the US that provides light rail service to all its major airports. A trip on the CTA's Blue Line from the Loop to O'Hare takes about 50 minutes. Living in South Loop, the most convenient way for me to get to the Blue Line is a 10-minute bike ride. On this occasion, I decided to film my ride to the Blue Line on a Divvy bike carrying luggage on my way to O'Hare for a work trip. I selected a Divvy with a shallower basket to help move my suitcase out of view of my camera, however the suitcase was not secure and slid around quite a bit. Typically, I carry luggage on the Divvy models with a deeper basket, which locks it in place much better. The Divvy stop at Adams Street and Dearborn, where my ride ended, is only a block away from the Monroe entrance to the Blue Line.

You matched the bag with the bike. Veeeerrrry classy. 👍👍

My best bet is to bring a bungee cord with you to balance out your luggage on the basket. That way you don’t need to hold your luggage and ride at the same time, which feels a bit dangerous at times.

Yeah a bungee card would have been nice. For short ride like this I usually just suffer through it without one.

@@chicagobybike I use a spin (spider), spinbinder, which is a double bungee cord, fixed together, with hooks on all four ends. It's standard equipment when using a bike for everyday purposes. It is more sturdy than the snelbinder (snel = fast), which are fitted on new Dutch bikes. So it can hold a heavier load easily.

Divvy! Have you tried out the new e-bikes? My only issue with the old one was starting from a dead stop could be a little tough. Hope the new ones are a bit smoother.

I haven’t tried one yet but my wife has. She thought they were pretty equivalent to the old ones - maybe a slightly smoother ride.
