    I am building a Go Kart for a friend's Kid, it is an old Sears Kart Kit that He found at the Dump.
    The first thing I constructed was a sliding Engine Mounting system so that the chain could be adjusted By moving the engine.
    The second addition is a Roll Cage and Bumpers.
    This Go Kart thing is somewhat out of my Realm as Street Rods and Rat Rod yard Tractors is more my thing.
    You did a Great job on the chain tensioner. I have a couple of vehicles that them stock. One is an ATC 70 Honda and the other is a Suzuki Quad runner.

    There is a chain management system called the Chain Dragone we use on our racing karts uses a roller instead of an idler gear.

    • @fotis.kon1101
      @fotis.kon1101  6 років тому

      I've heard of it! Its also a really good chain tensioner. What do you think about my project?

    • @williamstanfield1216
      @williamstanfield1216 6 років тому +1

      f.kon1 kind of caveman.I am a machinist and on our karts we have sliding engine mount and use split sprockets on the axle for fast gear changes.

    • @fotis.kon1101
      @fotis.kon1101  6 років тому +1

      William Stanfield Im not going to disagree with you, but I made this project alone when I was 15 years old , having a really low budget of money, so im satisfied with this result. This project is just for fun and not racing purposes.If I make a new go kart now, its going to be much more better and contemporary :)

    • @williamstanfield1216
      @williamstanfield1216 6 років тому

      f.kon1 when we started in 1964 I was 9 and our chassis were tubular so we were able to slide the engine or engines into position.I had twin 2 strokes mounted.I guess your skill level is what you are exposed too.

    • @fotis.kon1101
      @fotis.kon1101  6 років тому +3

      William Stanfield let me remind you that I build this go kart from zero, having no experiece in the field of go karts. All I want was to build something to have fun with my friends. So show understanding. Also every patent I make may not be good for you, but im satisfied seeing every single homemade part working excellent and unbearable. I dont have your experience in the field, all I want is to have fun and enjoy my constructions!

      Yes its easier , but my patent has a spring which continuously presses the chain and keep it stretched in every chain variations. After many hours of use the chain became loosest , so i'd have to put one more washer after few months. Washer its a good solution , but its a soft option...

  • @daviddavids2884
    @daviddavids2884 6 років тому +1

    thanks for posting. good work. there is nothing wrong with an old-fashioned chain tensioner. but, wait. in a power transmission application such as this, 'pushing' the slack inwards is Not a good idea. why. it results in TOO much contact at the sprockets; which Significantly INCREASES the rate of chain wear. oh, well. cheers

    • @fotis.kon1101
      @fotis.kon1101  6 років тому +2

      The chain is #42 and the sprocket is #40 to reduce friction between chain and sprocket. 3 years of continuously use and the chain is as new as the first day. Sorry 😂

If I wanted to be 100% right I should have put it in the other side. By I think in this occassion its ok, because both sides of the chain loose almost the same..so there is no problem at all :) Thank you for the advise anyway , I hope you liked my project!

      @@fotis.kon1101 what "so?"
      You write about "your patent" (at 00:23) - it's not your patent. plain and simple.
      A patent is a form of intellectual property that gives its owner the legal right to exclude others from making, using, or selling an invention for a limited period of years in exchange for publishing an enabling public disclosure of the invention.

      @@h34p yeah, as I can see you are really good on wikipedia copy paste. There are hundreds types of chain tensioners out there. Every tensioner based on an standard model. Of course the chain tensioner is not my patent, but this spesific one including the way I adjust it in my motor is my design.

      ...
      Sorry man.. the chain tensioner is a cool thing, and kudos for making one - but writing it's your patent is pretty stupid and arrogant to those who invented it.
      You could try to actually patent it - then you can see if it's your idea or not.

      My holes on the chassis are fixed , I can't move the engine :( After many hours of use the chain becames loosest . After many hours of use the chain is damaged , so I buy a new one...my patent is self adjustable based on every chain length! But thank you for your advice anyways!

      Yes its easier , but my patent has a spring which continuously presses the chain and keep it stretched in every chain variations. After many hours of use the chain became loosest , so i'd have to put one more washer after few months. Washer its a good solution , but its a soft option...
