may as well get both, because you never know what laws may change in your future and a passport card is a great investment if you lose your passport book it helps the process easier. That’s what a friend of mine told me.

@@leonbrown7410you only need a passport card. Just bring your drivers license as backup..this for domestic travel….for international you obviously have to bring original passport , but also bring passport card so you can leave original at hotel while you are sightseeing seeing.
I have both Passport Book and Passport Card and its good to have both so you can carry the Passport Card in the Wallet and leave the Passport Book in your hotel room.
Passport card is a verified identification without exposing your personal info. There is no home address printed on your passport card, to track back to. I have both a REAL ID and a passport card, in addition to my regular passport. With a passport card, you can carry it around in port without the fear of losing your actual passport. I also keep a copy of my passport on my phone, in the event of being stranded in a foreign country. A copy of your passport helps the replacement process along tremendously with the state department or US Embassy. Very informative video, thanks!
The only bad thing about having a passport card 🪪 is that you cant have it the the sun for to long or it will ruin it
That’s what I do with passport card. I carry it when sight seeing and leave my original passport in the hotel. I was asked by store in Spain to verify my identity when buying souvenir and I showed them my passport card. That way I don’t lose my original passport. I used to make photo printed copies of my passport back in the day too before passport cards were available
I don’t need a real ID since I have a passport card to travel domestically in the states. I bring my drivers license as back up.
How so you keep a copy of passport on phone? Are you just taking pic of first page of passport or is there a pdf version of full passport? Thx
We have both Book & Card. We take them both with us while cruising. When we get off at ports we take the card with us it's easy to take. We leave the Book in the safe.

Have you ever taken a river cruise? Was it in the US or abroad? What to expect?
I’ve taken one abroad…European one on Danube river. Just bring passport. If you want to pay extra $30-40, also get passport card to walk around with and leave passport on the ship.
I would only cruise with a passport, peace of mind.

Yes, but take it everywhere with you in the world so that you can leave original passport in your hotel while sightseeing because you don’t want to lose your original passport. You will still have identification with passport card.

It does not matter. The new date for real id is 5/7/25 you’ll need it by then and if traveling internationally you’ll need a passport

You don’t get one or the other you get both the passport book and card.
I have an enhanced drivers license from Michigan. I believe it’s ID compliant. Is this suitable for driving to and from Canada? Is a passport card still recommended?
If you plan to travel internationally and get a passport, then just pay $40 extra for the passport card. Use your drivers license as back up.
Yes you can use enhanced drivers license to DRIVE to and from Canada. Just have your passport book or card with you just in case
What I don’t t like about the drivers license is that your address is shown. The passport ID at least protects your privacy somewhat.

@@autobotdiva9268 I’m American . I use passport card and Texas drivers license(as back up) to travel domestically. Real ID is not needed if you have a passport card. Now if you don’t plan to travel internationally, then sure, go get a real ID. What I’m saying is that a passport card trumps real ID. If you want to travel internationally like Europe or Asia you will need original passport, but for Mexico, Caribbean, Bermuda, Canada, and the states, a passport card will suffice.
