Passport Book vs. Passport Card | What's the Difference?

- There are some similarities between the US Passport Book and the US Passport Card, like how to get them, but there are many more differences between the two. If you're wondering about their costs, where you can travel on them, or if you actually need both the passport book and the passport card, this video is for you. I talk about the difference in price between the passport book and the passport card. I also look at the application process, how long it takes, and who the passport book and passport card were truly designed for. Personally, I don't have a passport card because I don't think that I really need it. I have my Passport, driver's license, international driver's license, and keep copies of my birth certificate and things like that so I feel like just having my passport book is enough. The passport card is also regarded as "strong ID" when flying domestically within the U.S. I often use my passport card instead of a driver's license when flying domestically since I don't think anyone at the airport needs to know my home address or if I have any driving restrictions (I don't, but no one needs to know that). Of course I also carry my driver's license in my wallet, but when going through TSA lines or even verifying my age at an airport bar, the passport card serves that purpose.

Great info! In my county, however, the passport book is $130. I plan on getting both since it would just be $160 for both. What's 30 dollars more when you're already paying over $100? lol.
Passport book is only multi use on both domestic and international travel. I rather recommend to get thick passport book instead of thin passport book.

I got both, that way I use the passport card for domestic use, but the passport book for international travel.

The card alone would be a bit less expensive, but if u ever plan on traveling internationally in the future, go for the book now and have it at hand when u need it

No. A visa is what allows you to enter a specific country. There are tourist visas, immigrant visas, etc, and you have to get them from the country you’re traveling to…the passport card is an identity document from the USA that lets you travel to the places I mentioned in the video 🙏

Many times that will be true with an American passport! Just be sure to double check before traveling because you might need an E-visa (apply online) or you might need to visit an embassy before heading to the country to get an entry visa stamp placed in your passport.

@@NickDemski also Americans are lucky as they don’t have to pay an extra fee for a passport with extra pages, the UK charge extra if you want a passport with added pages.
When you have a passport book that expired do you pay to replace the whole book or just the card that is in the book?
If the book expires, it must be replaced. The passport card is separate 🙌

I need help idk what to do, on sept 13 i apply for both book and card I got back my certificate and book but I haven’t gotten my card idk who to contact for it
I think they are confuse with my address when I got my certificate it was written in red ink to pls fix my address and same with the passport book it was written in red saying something about my address I got text messages also for it but I ignored to pay 30 cents to identify my address and that they would ship my stuff to me the next day
I got another message of it so I did it because my card hasn’t come through on the same day at night I was charge up over 600$ I call my bank and thankfully I got it refund. The next day I got mailed 5 shirts…. And not my card so like usps is scamming or what
