This is incredible if you think about it. They managed to identify, recreate and expose an archetype for something we didn't even know we had. To this day, I don't know what exactly it is that makes him look so perfectly like a magician. I didn't even know there was such a thing as 'looking like a magician' before this.
I think his “Kubrick stare”, his turtleneck, and his very angular suit jacket are very much visual tropes of a magician. They’re things that are meant to make him look mysterious and foreboding.
Well they did, but they made sure it didn't overstay its welcome. It was teased very briefly in s1e3 and s1e6 - however, each time the show decisively quashed it with a perfect gag, so it's all good.
I love how he waved his hands around those salt and pepper shakers, he really does act like a magician. Oh why did this show ever got canceled whilst other boring horror still airs on tv.
They quit while they were ahead. Most (not all) shows start to struggle as they keep getting new series and the writing and quality drop. Best to stop at the top
@miket it didn't get cancelled the writer decided to end because shows get stale after a while. As the saying goes "quit while you're ahead" (while its still funny)
Ben Williams the English know when to quit. Then it remains legendary. The yanks flog the dead horse until people just forget it because it becomes so crap. Money money money.
_The IT Crowd_ really is a perfect example of "going out on top". Even "The Internet Is Coming" (the "final episode" one-off/reunion they did in 2013, which was also advertised as _The IT Crowd: The Last Byte_ ) was a funny, poignant way to wrap up the story, and those things **never** work.
The only other recent example I can think of is _Futurama_ - their final episode was a _perfect_ farewell to the characters and their stories, and tied up the entire show in a neat little bow. Afterwards I saw petitions and whatnot, "Bring back _Futurama"_ My question was always: WHY? It ended *perfectly.* Let it!
They had the task of making someone look like a magician for a punchline The best part is, they made someone look like a magician, and it worked for the punchline.
Allik27 A girl I work with asked me to describe a new employee. I told him he's got a really thin goatee, looks a bit like a magician. Just awaiting her reaction when she sees him 😅
I love the comedy timing in UT Crowd. They let Jenny walked out of the room, fully, and then walked back with "what?". They didn't rush it immediately with "what?". I remember the horrible US pilot of IT Crowd - how did they rush all timings there 😢
I explained this scene to my mom and she was really confused. How does one look like a magician? Me: oh, the actor was in the DND movie we watched last week. Her: who did he play? Me: one of the two rich guys. Her: the tall one? Me: yeah. Her: oh my god. He looks like a magician.
It's the same actor from the end of that Black Mirror episode in which hackers make that kid rob a bank and stuff. He has to fight this guy in a forest at the end.
Absolutely fantastic. It's a shame the woke ars&holes have cancelled Graham Linehan (writer of this and Father Ted) for, shock horror, saying women are women, and in general British (Irish! :)) TV comedy now sucks beyond belief. Maybe the BBC or Channel 4 should show they aren't pathetic woke tw@ts by showing something he makes again? You know, might be a tiny point in the "don't cancel the license fee / sell of C4 as they are beyond help" column?
Linehan is an anti-transgender, antivax, climate denier who thinks hormone therapy is worse than what nazis did. He writes good comedy but he is a bitter loser and deserved every bit of canceling. And you'll eventually have to accept that wokes are the progressives and anti-wokes are the tw@ts.
I don't agree with the gender nonsense either but linehan spent years attacking people on twitter just for having an opinion so he had it coming really. the left always eats itself.
This show's writers were so good at giving Roy and Jen dating storylines where they'd latch onto one little niggle about their partner and not be able to let it go 😂 Philip being/not being gay Peter File Fire at sea parks Michael the magnificent The nerd Jen dates who is temporarily in a band Roy's date that would always cry and get mascara all down her face (it was like breaking up with the joker! 😂) it would always build and build so well and get way out of hand 😂
Just the way he's sat with that stare kills me
And then the hand movements. Perfect.
If looks could 'disappear'
This is incredible if you think about it. They managed to identify, recreate and expose an archetype for something we didn't even know we had. To this day, I don't know what exactly it is that makes him look so perfectly like a magician. I didn't even know there was such a thing as 'looking like a magician' before this.
Haha, so true. Watching this originally, I was like "lol wtf does that even mean". Then I was like "... oooh".
I think his “Kubrick stare”, his turtleneck, and his very angular suit jacket are very much visual tropes of a magician. They’re things that are meant to make him look mysterious and foreboding.
@Everfalling I think the French beard plays too. Tall, thin, small head, I dont know. Everything about him.
And now he's in the Dungeon and Dragons movie and he doesn't even play a magician!
The hard cut to Magnificent Michael with the turtleneck and stare is absolute comedy gold. 😂
This is genius writing
This series is so underrated.
...and acting.
graham linehan was a fantastic comedic writer/actor it's just too bad twitter turned him into an absolute tool
@@NGRevenant ruined his own career and marriage. All he had to do was keep his mouth shut.
And casting!
I have been a magician for years and I think that this is not only hilarious but painfully accurate.
Should have changed your name to illusionist. Magician is too hokus pokus..
Can you cut my comment in half ?
Legit one of the best lead-ups/payoffs in comedy television
Yes, the reveal is just perfect.
Prestigious
Priceless XD
@@MrHulsi Pr.........magnificent?
I wonder how the auditions for the actor went...
+john fru I want you to look into the lens, not around the lens but into the lens!
@cecil123 *explaining the joke stops it from being funny*
We need someone who looks like a magician.
Pick a card...
He DOES look like a magician !
Yes! he does! XD
@@RobertWiiWesker4 He massively does!
Áno, vyzerá ako kúzelník. (Greetings from Slovakia)
that's the point lmao
This show’s writing and execution. Utterly unmatched.
Me before seeing him: “what! How can someone look like a magician? That’s stupid!”
After seeing him: “…holy shit! He actually does.”
"he massively does" 😂
I love that almost all of their love interests are also weirdos :D
" A fire at Sea Parks ?!"
Or "she looks like the Joker!"
Or Peter File
It makes me glad this show never tried to do the whole "Will they won't they" thing with Roy and Jen
Well they did, but they made sure it didn't overstay its welcome. It was teased very briefly in s1e3 and s1e6 - however, each time the show decisively quashed it with a perfect gag, so it's all good.
@@tremapar they were very subtle with it i never realized those episodes counts as a will they won't they 😂
Jen's facial expressions are incredible.
The audience bursting with laughter right after his shot makes it more funny
I've been laughing at that first stare of mike for like the last 6 years, thanks IT crowd
Michael the magnificent XD

7 years late but what do you mean canceled?

I know that gobshite programme The Big Bang Theory went on too long and this didn’t this excellent show needs to come back British comedy is the best

Very expressive hands.
Michael the Magnificent!
This is exactly the sort of observation that would ruin a relationship for me :)

you put it perfect as much as I love some American TV shows they go on forever and get a bit crap overtime
Ben Williams the English know when to quit. Then it remains legendary. The yanks flog the dead horse until people just forget it because it becomes so crap. Money money money.
James McDonald Graham Lineham is Irish, he did the same thing with Father Ted, that only ran about 20 episodes or so.

when I die, it'll probably be for laughing too much at this clip
A genius wrote this show,
God I miss IT. You don't see this kind of writing anymore
This is one of the best scenes ever lol
This is a bit straight out of Seinfeld. Absolutely hilarious.
Seeing him as a mage in the recent D&D movie just made my day

The best line in this scene: "Whut?"
Along with Psychoville's Tina Turner scene, this is one of the funniest scenes in comedy.
I could watch this clip 100 times in a row and laugh every time it first shows Michael
especially the very silent stares they give each other
This is still so good.
This scene made me have to pause and fall to the floor.
oh man! the moment i saw his face, staring just like a magician hahaha i lost it
