  • Just a quick hit today.
I caught CSX Executive train P001-01 with all three F40s, 1, 2, & 3 (in that order), at Atlanta.
I'm not a fan of diesels running elephant style but I don't get to call the shots.
Next up, I caught a military train at Fairburn with CPKC 8112 & 8779 at the old Fairburn, GA depot.
Although it was sunny and clear (a rare thing when I'm in pursuit of something unusual) there was an unbelievably powerful wind blowing the entire time and I was underdressed for it. Even though the temperature was 59°, the wind made it feel like 39° to me.
So I packed it in and headed home.
    Enjoy it

Born 8/29/57 66 Years old. The other commenter is a pal of mine. The part about "bashing passenger trains" is an inside joke.
"Bashing" is a British thing. It involves riding behind every locomotive of a particular class and trying to log 1000 miles.
We both know a British transplant who "bashes" Amtrak P42s.
It is totally meaningless to me because A) I way prefer railfanning trackside and chasing over riding trains and B) I couldn't care less about Amtrak and commuter trains. To me, the P42s are ugly and the Siemens Chargers are uglier still.
The only reason to ride for me is for the mountain scenery. I've ridden the Coast Starlight, the California Zephyr, the Sunset Limited and the Southwest Chief a couple of times each. I'm done with those.
I rode the Empire Builder once, out of Portland. The Columbia River Gorge and the section of the Rockies that we passed in daylight were nice, but too much of the best scenic locations are passed in the dark. From Havre Mt. to Chicago is a boring nothingburger. Won't be doing that train again.
I've ridden over Sand Patch on the Capitol Limited.
Th only remaining routes I want' to cover are the Pennsylvanian over Horseshoe Curve and The LA to San Diego run, once they've stabilized the railroad. I rode it once but they were substituting buses for the best part of the route. The construction work is still ongoing.
