Ben's Story | Rowcroft Hospice

In this video, Ben Stone describes the expert care that his dad, Andy (69), received from Rowcroft at the end of his life last December. Ben reflects on the wedding ceremony that the care teams arranged at the hospice for him and his partner Rebecca, so that his dad could share in the special celebrations and be a part of that memorable day. And he explains how it made such a difference to have Rowcroft’s support through the hardest days imaginable, as he watched his father slip away.
“I don’t think anyone expects to need Rowcroft, but it’s such a relief to know that even in your darkest days, there’s going to be people there to help you and your family too,” says Ben. “If Rowcroft hadn’t been there for us, I don’t know what we would have done.”
As a charity, Rowcroft cares for around 2500 patients and their loved ones across South Devon each year. However, due to a national lack of funding and resources, hundreds of local people are missing out on vital end-of-life care. Rowcroft’s No One Alone Appeal aims to raise an additional £500,000 annually so that Rowcroft can expand our specialist services to care for hundreds more people amid the rapidly increasing demand in the community. We believe that everyone has the right to expert end-of-life care, and our vision is a world where no patient with complex illness, or their loved ones, will be left to face this difficult and vulnerable time alone.
