Please leave a comment and a like for the Algorithm :) After 7 months of on & off work, the second video in my Combat Mission After Action Report series has finally arrived! Today we take a look at Combat Mission: Cold War. An alternate history 'Cold War Gone Hot' scenario in the Fulda Gap region of West Germany. More specifically, today we are covering the battle of Kriegsburg in 1979, a fictional german town sees a ragtag and badly depleted American force taking on an entire Soviet Motor Rifle Regiment. It's about to get hot!
Great showing! If I had to guess, Kriegsburg '81 is the hardest one for the Americans, T-64s are nigh-impenetrable from the front by Dragons or the American's sabots while they can one-shot your M60s from across the map. I played '81 from the Soviet side and it was quite a stomp.
I imagine placing and moving all that text like "Westen Town Road" and "Krause Farm" at 5:26 took a heck of a long time so good job on the attention to detail.
Just like the clearing of the Niscemi highway AAR, it was very worth the wait ! The video is well filmed, well written and keep us in suspense up until the end. Awesome job you did there, Miles :)
Incredible video out of nowhere. Feels like the fulda gap Is really at risk. Keep the videos up. You and a small collection of other combat mission creators really bring the game to life.
Call me impressed, I wouldn’t have thought to find you playing Combat Mission after all these years. Like yesterday we were talking about Darktide an Ogryns and now today I learn you make this. Great work man.
Wow, that's some high quality video here. Love it, all the work was truely worth it and I especially loved the music choices and details. It was also a great choice of mission for an AAR and the 1979 choice was nice to see as well, as it showed some unique vehicle types.
Great stuff! Combat mission always seems like a huge challenge to play, let alone create an entertaining AAR. I love all the analysis and dramatic camera work. Excited to see more!
Holy crap on a cracker more of these please. I know they are a lot of work, but frankly, these are some of the best combat mission AARs on the interwebs.
Wow your dragons managed to actually hit something, that is a high point in the weapons career. A little surprised that your tanks did so well too. just goes to show its less what you have and more how you use it. Nice work.
Appreciate it! yeah I was pleased with the Dragons performance here although I think Combat Mission as a whole ups their reliability a fair bit beyond what they were actually capable of.
Wonderful AAR! I have shared this to a couple of FBook groups trying to get other games to buy-into the game...more Multiplayer is always good. :) Thanks again for the great AAR.
It's been awhile since i poked into the channel. This is a very pleasant surprise, and this might be a game to look into... especially if there's the capacity to make your own missions or senarios.
So good to come across another fantastic Combat Mission channel! I love your level of knowledge on the topics and tactics, and you've got great quality editing and video design. I thought Usually Hapless was sort of the only CM UA-camr, but I'm glad to see others on his level as well!
Great work, MMA Have you considered running the scenario again, but as the Soviet attacker instead? It might give you more of a challenge, because we all know that the AI is better when defending instead of attacking
Great AAR and good to see another youtuber joinig Combat Mission Club. Kriegsburg in 1979 is problamy the most fun setting for this scenerio. I was able to beat it with using mine M48's as a mobile reserve pushed to engage Soviet tanks before they woulb be able to reach any of the objectives and designating infatry with Dragons as the last resort defense. Hope I'd be able to te meet you in some H2H game in future.
Amazing editing! Thanks a lot for your time and efforts! PS: the music volume might be a tad high though, especially during your briefing on your force composition.
Hey great stuff….curious, do you have, and can you post, a source link for the doctrine cheat sheet (ive got the old FMs but this looks very convenient) that you displayed at 26:02 of the vid??
Oh sh🤟t seen miles on. F🤟ck yeah. Love you. Keep up the good work. I missed you. I so miss your no bs takes tell it like is. Refreshing as all hell. Take care bud.
Pixeltruppen. It's a long standing joke within the CM community :) Early CM games were played at very low fidelity to the point that soldiers looked like pixels at any actual distance, hence Pixeltruppen.
Fantastic video and narration, loved the bit about the tree's sacrifice. But i wanted to ask: that soviet doctrinal manual, isthere any way you could provide a link for it if it's on a syte?
in 1979 upwards of 90% of the tanks in the Fulda sector opposite the US consisted of T-62s and T-55s. T-64s were virtually nonexistent in the GSFG during this period and those who were there were facing the Brits up north.
The one that interests you the most! CM can have a steep learning curve, so getting something that interests you the most will help you get over the initial humps in learning the game. If you need further help, join the CM discord as I am quite active there: discord.gg/2jTTgEEPkW
Holy shit, you're alive! Oh and ps. if you right-click on your name here to get to your channel, you get a 404 error. If you just click, it works. But right-clicking and opening in a new window doesn't work. Most likely because right-clicking takes you to ua-cam.com/users/ManyMilesAway while just clicking takes you to www.youtube.com/@MilesStratton
@@MilesStratton bah, reliability isn’t modelled so no worries there, though the poor engine power would harm its off-road potential. By 1979 Chieftain Mk5s were equipped with Thermal Optic Gunnery Sights (TOGS) together with a laser rangefinder so they could be fairly powerful for 1979/80 but probably any later they wouldn’t do too well in a front on engagement with Pact forces.
@@___-cp6or I've heard that but have yet to find any actual evidence of it. Everytime I've looked deeper into the subject I've come up blank. Pretty sure that TOGS only appeared on Challenger. SCRATCH THAT Looked it up and found a Mark 11 with it. No evidence of the Mark 5 though.
All these years they keep adding more to this old engine, publishing new titles at a premium price. …all this time they failed to look at a(n off the shelve) replacement engine like Unity or Unreal to advance this series two decades into the 2020-ies.
It's unfortunately not that simple. CM has plenty of issues there's no doubt about that. But transitioning to a new engine would not only be a huge and expensive enterprise but also would likely cause CM to lose major elements of what makes it so compelling. Also BFC owns the CMX engine completely. If they were to use another engine they would need to start paying for use of that engine. BFC charges premium prices because they will always be a niche product and their target market has few issues paying it. It's just not worth the effort or money expended.
I’m literally going through Armor Basic Officer Leadership Course in the Army right now and this shit briefs like an actual OPORD that we have to do. Very fucking well done I NEED MORE OF THIS SHIT 🙏🫡😤.

Do you use any mods?
Who the hell are SME?
SME is a scam music group that often blocks videos from playing on other sites for no reason whatsoever. I have no control over it.
Any new of these soon?:)
I really liked this, the editing and narration are worth the effort. I might pick up this game just because of this video. Please make more!
Much appreciated! That's the plan!
Glad to see you're adding yourself to the awesome genre of Combat Mission AAR videos, hopefully we see more in the future.

At some point I need to give that a go. The Soviets can get quite scary in the 80-81 period.
I imagine placing and moving all that text like "Westen Town Road" and "Krause Farm" at 5:26 took a heck of a long time so good job on the attention to detail.
It took longer than I would've liked for sure! Hoping to put more than just vague rectangles there too!
Spectacular. Loving the recent new wave of CM AARs on UA-cam with great production quality and this one ranks among the top!
Dragon missiles when the find the grass more offending than the shilka.
Phenomenal video! Absolutely loved it, the detail in this AAR is superb and I can't wait to see what you come up with next!

The combat mission cinematic universe continues to expand. And a great addition at that.

This is one of the best CM videos on YT. Even Usually Happles can learn from this.

I was waiting for this.
2 things for you. As a M60A1 tc, we were taught to take out the air defence first.
Second, the M48 and M60's had the same fire control systems.
Yep. I was referring mostly to the way they were initially implemented in game.

3rd infantry battalion? You mean division?
Nope. This is a battalion sized force and is organized as a Battalion

Shame there’s no BRD or British units in the game. Chieftain would probably be the best tank at the time period with its 120mm gun
