I think it's wild that Stella Glow occupies a weird place in between unknown and beloved. Like, everyone I've heard of that played it (myself included) loved it and can't recommend it enough. But hardly anyone seems to have played it. It really is a special game and definitely worth picking up.
I have it on my to play list because I immediately recognized the character artist because of his previous Touhou fanart.
The Ides of March is actually March 15, so we have a little more time than that.
Radiant Historia is not only a must play, but it’s a must play more than once. The best part of it for me was knowing that basically nothing is missable, so I could just play in short or long sessions and never worry about doing something that would lock me out of an ending or a party member or anything else like that. It’s an awesome experience, and playing it the second time with knowledge of the story really adds to the enjoyment.
It’s amazing to see people not know about Radiant Historia! I’m hoping its placement and mention in this list will encourage people to check it out
It’s a game that got backlogged for me. I bought it new and didn’t even take it out of the plastic wrap until after Perfect Chronology came out. When I finally got around to playing it, I loved it so much and couldn’t get enough so I bought both versions.

Radiant Historia is one of the best jrpgs of all time. I thank HCBailly for recommending it all those years ago when he Let's Played it in the early 2010s.
I bought the 3DS version and played it through to completion. It was great, but I just can’t rate it as highly as everyone else among the “best of all time” conversation. Stocke was a pretty one-dimensional protagonist, and all the side characters were very tropey with varying degrees of depth. The core timeline mechanic was good, and always felt suitably epic when you went back to the limbo area (can’t remember what the game called it), but I often found myself getting confused as to which timeline was which. Both decisions seemed to lead to the same outcome, with the only difference being that sometimes certain characters didn’t know who I was because I hadn’t met them in that timeline yet. It felt underdeveloped and maybe even a little underwhelming in that regard.
I do remember really liking the artstyle and soundtrack, and the voice acting was mostly really well done too. The combat had a nice feel and I didn’t have issues with the battle system - that was all implemented well. It feels like the kind of game that I’ll look back on really fondly in years to come, but more as a really good game than a best ever sort of thing.
I cant believe i missed this masterpiece and bought a bunch of 3ds games a few months back. Absolutely incredible game and def in my list of best jrpg games of all time.

I would compare the story just as good as or as great as Chrono Triggers.
It is truly awful that Atlus did not put their digital catalogue on a deep sale before the 3DS shop closed. Capcom thankfully did, but their one noteworthy RPG on the 3DS, Monster Hunter Stories, was absent from that sale.
I bought a number of Atlus RPGs for a pittance during their sale a year ago. I recently bought NIS’s Culdcept (RPG strategy board game) on sale now.
most of their catalog was like 75% off but okay

Nice video. I have caught some of these titles on sale through the years (Atlus and Capcom titles mainly) but there are going to be so many titles left behind once this store closes. It is a shame more publishers haven't offered any sort of last chance sales for these titles (including Nintendo) because trying to track down physical copies is going to be an expensive nightmare. Especially for Nintendo titles. Fire Emblem, Mario/Luigi, Kirbys, so on.

@@BacklogBattle Capcom and Kemco are in the final sale period, maybe another one or two companies. The sales section has 7 pages where it's normally 2 or 3.

I love that you chose to feature the Etrian Odyssey series in your video. Can't recommend those games enough, especially EO4 and EO5 (with 5 being my favorite in the series).

I have both SMT4 and Apocalypse, and I love them both. SMT4 was actually the first M-rated game I ever owned.

I love all the games you mentioned Alex. I have all of them but have finished only a few. I loved Stella Glow even though I generally don't like harem scenarios. I loved Ever Oasis. I bought the special release of Radiant Historia (which is still sealed as I played the original) which is an amazing game. The Persona Q games are great. So many wonderful games on the DS and 3DS. Fortunately most are physical copies so still available when the eshop closes. You just have to have a ton of money! Thanks Alex!
I'm kinda glad that I have all these games on a list of games to buy since I picked up a 2ds, I was worried my list would expand to a insane amount! But I have a few of these games, like the persona q games, most of the fire emblem games and of course rales of the abyss which is my current side hustle that I am adoring at the moment! Though it might take me awhile to get all these games with how expensive some are!
Devil Survivor Overclocked is a must play for anyone that likes SRPGS or SMT. Or video games. My gosh what a masterpiece.
Also seconding that Strange Journey is one of the most brutal games out there

That's tough. Really tough. I have almost all of them except for Ever Oasis. Thankfully there is a World edition of it so i can get that. Nice list mate.
All of the Shin Megami Tensei games on the 3DS are essential games, especially Shin Megami Tensei IV. That game is a masterpiece in my eyes and is one of my absolute favorite games of all time. Any time you need any information on an SMT game, I would be happy to help. I'll need to pick up Radiant Historia soon, I have yet to play it but I have heard nothing but high praise for this game.

Don't forget Fire Emblem Revelations which is part of the FATES story.
It's now impossible to get the base game of Fates digitally though. You need a physical copy or to have bought either of the other two paths digitally before.

I have been preparing for the 3DS store closing and picking up some of the physicals on this list. Too bad the price of used copies of everything is going off the roof lately, so I had to pay quite a bit of premium to get some of these games. Thanks for compiling this list so I know what else I've missed! ha ha
I’m definitely getting Ever Oasis - it also has a software update available for download too so, just be mindful of that (as well as for any other game you might be interested in downloading).

Ever oasis is in my top 5 fav games on the 3ds. Enjoy! Oh also, fantasy life is my all time favorite game on the 3ds. Can't recommend it enough to ppl.
@@packers12to80 HEARTILY agree! Those two along with Monster Hunter Stories are my top 3 faves of all time. Best of the best Ever Oasis, Fantasy Life and Monster Hunter Stories. Cannot recommend these highly enough.
@Cthuwu :} right! Add animal Crossing(for me atleast) in there and u got enough games to last a good 6 months or month. Can't get any better of a top 4 picks for the 3ds. The monster hunter series is amazing . U can stories In there as well for a change of gameplay pace.
Radiant Historia took me a long time to finish but I really enjoyed it. Overall a fantastic experience.
There are a lot of great games on the 3DS and there are many interesting-looking games that I have yet to play. I'm glad that I could provide you with information on SMT games and I'd always be happy to share any information on that series if you need it. All of the SMT games on the 3DS are excellent and I would consider them to be essential games for the system. SMT IV is my favorite game on the 3DS as well as being one of my absolute favorite games of all time, it is a masterpiece in my eyes. Radiant Historia is a game that I have yet to play, but very much want to. I have heard nothing but high praise about that game and I want to get a physical copy of it soon before the price goes up even more once the 3DS games are no longer available in the Nintendo eShop.

7th Dragon III Code VFD
A JRPG where you create your own party down to their stats and is super unique
Dragon Ball Fusions
One of my absolute favorite Dragon Ball games. It’s a JRPG where fights happen 5v5 in a circular arena with a sort of ATB system. You can knock enemies into other enemies or your teammates to damage them further and if you knock them out of the ring it resets their ATB so they take even longer to get their turn. Of course it can happen to you as well! Definitely give this one a try.
Lastly and definitely not least, LBX Little Battlers eXperience
A game by Level 5 where you make little custom robots and fight it out in a storyline that is very reminiscent of Beyblade. Great game for people who enjoyed Virtual ON, Gundam Breaker, or Custom Robo.
Edit: can’t believe I forgot to mention Culdcept Revolt!
Magic the Gathering + Monopoly
A board game card game where you fight to control land and earn enough mana to win
So many smt games and persona games rpgs in general on 3ds. Fire emblem, all so beautiful. My favorite system. 3ds lives on forever.
Dq7 is my favorite but i am a big fan if the series, thank you for featuring them in this video
I was debating for a bit on starting Tales of Abyss or Radiant Historia and ended up going with Abyss.. after seeing your placement, I'll make sure that game is next in line though!
Just got a new 2DS XL this year, so I've got a lot to catch up on.
Having played both, I thought Abyss was better overall. It does have a fair bit of annoying backtracking in the latter third of the game, but other than that I couldn’t really fault it. RH is still a really great game, but I dunno if it’s quite as perfect as a lot of people say.
They’re really gonna need to remaster some of these 3ds games on switch

I am happy to say that I have all fire emblem 3ds games, dragon quest 8, Radiant historia, both bravely defaults 3ds games, devil survivor 1, tales of the abyss on 3ds and both shin megami tensei 4 games already

Great video, man! So sad to see the eShop shutting down, I spent all weekend downloading DLC ahaha. Awesome list though, fortunate to have most of these!
If anyone needs a push on any of the games mentioned, I highly highly highly recommend Bravely Default. Don't let some of the detractors deter you from it. It's genuinely one of the best RPGs ever made imo. It as well as its sequel have imo, the best RPG job system ever made.
One thing I wanted to point out is I think you may be confusing the Luminous Arc developers (Imageepoch) with the Ever Oasis developers (Grezzo), who did the Legend of Zelda 3DS games. May have got it switched around with Stella Glow as thats the spiritual successor to Luminous Arc. That was the Luminous Arc developers' last game, unfortunately.
Bravely Default is amazing, even when the sequel is freely available! I hope people check it out!

I think you might have gotten mixed up on your video script. Stella Glow was from the people that made Luminous Arc. Ever Oasis is from Grezzo who mostly handled enhanced ports of Zelda games, and was also directed by the creator of the Mana series.

I think I was probably reading something about the area in Ever Oasis called "Luminous Hollow" and somehow equated the two to each other!
All of these games he mentioned are popular ones that will guaranteed to go up in price after the eshop closes. Thank God I have most of these never selling them
Devil Survivor is truly goated, my favorite series from Shin Megami. I even got my little sister to play and she loves the game too ☺️💁🏿♂️

Great video and recommendations! Although, I would suggest putting the price for each game on the screen so we the people know what we are getting into when we get the the eShop.
I would’ve, but if someone puts some of these on sale, the video would misrepresent the games! If people are going to check the stores anyway, might as well see the current price for themselves!
Also, I did say that this video is going to change as soon as the eShop closes, so the prices wouldn’t reflect the physical copies of the games either as they fluctuate

Ever Oasis is in my Top 3 3DS games. It is the 3D Zelda that the console never got and is something I enjoy going back to every now and then.
Hands down Devil Survivor games. Dragon Quest 7 and 8 would also be high on the list. I had played 8 when it first came out on 3ds but I stopped halfway for some reason. I would also really like to pick up my save file of Radiant historia I just need to remember the story so far.
I have a few of these titles already, and there's a few more I'd like to pick up. But, the WiFi on my 3ds doesn't seem to work anymore and I can't get it to connect to the network no matter what I try! And like someone else said in the comments, picking these up physically is going to get expensive and impractical for anyone other than mega-enthusiasts and collectors. My 3ds had a good run mostly playing SMT and Persona Q/Q2!
I’d call Nintendo and see if they can do something! Their customer support is great and they’ve helped me out with repairs before for free
I wish Nintendo would do another huge sale for all the 3DS games. Some of them that never came out physically will disappear forever and given the number of games and the still full price, it's a shame that I can't get many more because 2nd hand versions are already more expensive

I picked up Stella Glow because of some recommendations, so who knows when I’ll get around to it lol
I remember buying the dragon quest games on the DS a few years after they were released. I looked at their prices and oh my they're more than quadruple than what I bought them for. I bought dq 5,6,7,8,9. I played 5,6 & 7. Great games. Currently on DQ 8
A few more games I'd like to recommend are Culdcept Revolt, Attack of the Friday Monsters, and Crimson Shroud. One's the only Culdcept game to ever make it to Europe (and a fun card-based RPG), the other is a quirky Level-5 game reminiscent of those summer holiday Japanese games on PS1, and the last one is an RPG with a board-game aesthetic that's part of a series of different and unique games by Level-5.
I'd also like to second the recommendation for Fire Emblem Echoes, as while its gameplay is contentious compared to Awakening and Fates, the quality of the story and characters are head-and-shoulders above those games. It really is a return to form for the Fire Emblem franchise as far as writing goes, and even though the gameplay has its issues, it's still decent overall. It's a fantastic remake of the second Fire Emblem game, and I'd also recommend getting the story DLC that follows the Knights of Zofia before the events of the game.
And lastly, Project X Zone 2. While I'd recommend both games, the first one isn't available on eShop anymore, and scalpers are having a field-day with it. On the plus side, Project X Zone 2 has a wider variety of obscure characters from Capcom, Namco and Sega's history, ranging from Vashyron and Zephyr (Resonance of Fate) to Dante and Vergil of Devil May Cry fame. It even has some Nintendo reps this time around with Chrom and Lucina of Fire Emblem Awakening, and Fiora representing Xenoblade Chronicles (who, fittingly enough, is paired up with KOS-MOS of the Xenosaga trilogy). If you like fun strategy games, and get a kick out of crossovers, you can't go wrong with this game.

The 3DS version is the redux, it was originally on DS. That had some sequel bait unresolved stuff that was actually resolved in Perfect Chronology.

Ok, so I bought Stella Glow for £40 as it was only a few £ more expensive than the eshop price. Guess what??!! Its now (21 march 23) £3.49!!
Wow! For once I actually have most of the games in one of these 3ds videos. The only ones I don’t have are Dragon Quest and Etrian Odyssey. The former is just plain old too far out of my price range to get physically, and if I’m being honest I didn’t really like the Etrian Odyssey games. Believe me, I tried the demos and everything but just couldn’t get into them. Not my taste I guess 😕

I think it's possible. All three Etrian Odyssey games came to Switch and they're originally DS games that use the touchscreen heavily. There's also The World Ends With You (can't say if the touchscreen controls are good for this game, though 🤞)
@@brucefields7009 I think maybe with remaking them a bit more, maybe Bravely Default and Bravely Second. The problem is that certain 3DS features are actually plot significant in those.
Totally co-sign your recommendation of Radiant Historia, it is simply one of the best RPGs ever, on any system.
My only addition would be the original Monster Hunter Stories. The sequel on the Switch might kind of obviate it, but the original still has tons of charm and incredibly satisfying gameplay. It has a hefty demo too if you want to try it out before buying. Great video, as always!

@@teddycheddar1114 Actually, the other MH games on 3DS are in the same boat - MH3U, MH4U, MH Generations Ultimate and the non-ultimate versions of those games. It’s definitely worth sticking all those in your 3DS and checking out the in-game DLC menu to pick up the free bonus contents if you haven’t already.
There’s also a save data transfer app you can download on the 3DS store to enable you to move your 3DS MH Generations Ultimate save data over to the Switch version.
Bro you gotta stop doing this to me. I’m out of space on on 256gb card. Im gonna have to buy a whole other 3ds to keep up. I have a backlog list in a notebook next to my 3ds for games to add when I finish and can delete some of the ones on there already lol. You’re killing me! But I love it lol
Ever Oasis, Fantasy Life, Monster Hunter Stories, Stella Glow and Radiant Historian will not EVER be getting taken off ever ever ever. I’ll never stop playing those until the very last 3ds on this planet dies lol
Oh jeez. persona q series? Cave story? Bravely default? Etrian odyssey? All have permanent slots on my 3ds, never to be left. I’m also personally a HUGE fan of all the Professor Layton and Ace Attorney games.
I just literally downloaded all of my digital 3DS games onto my card! There’s so many games to pick up!
I think I should mention Tales of the Abyss is physical only. No digital copy was released. I think it was cuz it was an earlier 3ds game and third party at that so it didn't get a release on the eshop like some other games.

@@BacklogBattle Yeah, that's a nice list tbh. I think I own quite a few of these. I would add Rune Factory 4 as that is my fave rpg/farm sim game ever. Also Radiant Historia on 3DS is a game I really need to play. I started it but never finished.

No Yokai Watch series that series is pokemon,Diablo and Yakuza like map full of things to do and gets more to do each game they also get more expensive each game in English that parts not as good though.

I didn't like Fire Emblem Awakening because it was the first game in the series to let you turn off Permadeath.... Something which I feel is ESSENTIAL to the series! The battles feel FAR less impactful & fun with Permadeath turned off.
Yes... It can be frustrating, but it tends to suck me into the action FAR more if I know that danger is always there. It makes my heart pound during certain encounters lol & it's just not the same without it!
But the danger can still be there… You can just choose permadeath!

I always kick myself for not buying Radiant Historia for the 3DS because I already had the DS version, and now it so expensive I can't justify myself for expendind 100€+ for a 3DS game 😖
I completely did everything in the original DS version, bought the 3DS digital version on sale last year and most of the more important DLC (that added actual quests).

For my 1st play through I got with the fire tsundere and the game is all nope nope nope there IS a true ending and I was working on getting the true ending and get with the final witch you get...... Only for my 3-D S to basically decide to die and now I have to find another 3DS. Thankfully all of my information is on a Flash card so all I have to do is just get another 3-D S and hopefully transfer my progress over to that 1 and I still need to beat devil survivor overcocked as well as a robot game that I bought before my 3-D S decided to die out. So I just need to beat those 3 games and then I'm pretty much good for the most part but this is still a pretty solid list Alex. And yes I agree the soundtrack in Stella glow is amazing!
Shame about the Studio loved Luminous arc series on the DS
Getting to the true ending involves progressing friendship with a certain non witch character anyways. Btw saves are stored on the physical carts for 3DS, and as for digital, that may be tougher. System transfer usually means that you need both systems able to power on, unless you contact Nintendo support and they may be able to help if it is just the one time.
@@karlthorkildson4650 I know that after the game basically said nope there's a trending you have to get and I was working on trying to get a non witch character to be friends on my 2nd play through until my 3-D S decided to die out on me.
@@MrDarksol At least you have more free time events on a NG+ than an initial playthrough. True End may involve using a guide anyways, unless you do the events alternating between everybody and stumble into it.

I would actually say Etrian Odyssey IV is the worst in the series alongside the EO Mystery Dungeon games. IV is super slow and clunky. Best to go with EO Untold 1 & 2, V and Nexus. Just skip 4.
I'd love to own most of these in hard copy, but... yeah some things are getting pretty expensive. Snagged a sealed copy of DQ8 for like... $140 or 150. And then proceeded to tear off the wrapping and play it. Ouch! I'm still missing FE: Awakening and prices are pretty gnarly on that one as well. Radiant Historia is on my list, too. 💪
Tales of abbys is good but I won't say its a "must have" the MC is pretty bland and boring that being said it has a few twist and turns. Personally I would have removed tales of the abbys and swap it alliance alive OR 7th dragon VDU
