  • Part 2: • How to Fix YOUR gas Dr...
    How to troubleshoot your gas dryer, how to fix a gas dryer, gas dryer wont heat, fix a dryer that wont heat. My gas dryer would not heat up so I will show you the four main pieces in the rear of the dryer that should be checked using an ohms meter. It is very easy to do and ANYONE can do this. Just to get this thing checked by a technician would cost $100. Then any parts, which are 4x the price you can get them at, plus $100 or more an hour for labor. By the time you are done, they will charge $250 to fix your dryer (half price for a brand new one). This job takes 1hr if you take your time, and the parts cost under $10... Please like the video if it helped and comment if you have any questions at all.

    Great! Glad the video was helpful! Good idea on shortening your vent hose. I would also clean out your vent if you could. A lot of times a dirty vent heats up and causes the fuse to blow (for fire safety). I shortened mine as well and she has been working great ever since! Give the video a thumbs up if you havent already, it helps more people see this! Thanks!

    Sears wanted $99 bucks just to come out plus parts and labor. My thermal fuse was bad so I checked online for the nearest Sears that had one in stock and $17 later, I'm up and running again. You are the man! Who knew fixing a dryer could be so easy? Thanks!

    Thanks very much for this informative and easy to follow video series! I fixed my 21 year-old gas dryer by replacing the thermal fuse for about $4. Plus, I now know more about my dryer and how it works, and I am not afraid to open it up and try other repairs if they become necessary!

    So helpful!! Thank you for explaining everything so simply! I found the same fuse was bad - I didn't have a tester but brought it to a local auto shop and they were able to check it and see the circuit did not complete. I have ordered the part on amazon for $2.45 and now am anxiously awaiting to see if it works when it arrives!!! And we almost bought a new dryer yesterday! Thanks again. I've liked your video :)

    It’s funny that in every other video that I’ve seen, nobody ever mentions that after you’ve fixed what was wrong you should test the dryer only when put back together or else the flame would keep turning off. I’ve replaced every sensor up to even changing the complete burner when I didn’t need to. I was very frustrated until I saw your video and for that, I am very grateful. Thank you so much. Thumbs up and subscribed.

    Chris
    I had never use a reading meter till your video. I followed your setting and went to work on the back of my dryer. I called a repair guy and he wanted $100 dollars to come out. So I decided to try it myself worst case I would by a new dryer. After using the meter it came out to be the fuse. I took the vent apart and cleaned it out, it had so much crap in there lol. I then went on eBay and bought the fuse for $3.50. Just installed it and it started right up.. Thanks for the great video. If followed step by step it works perfect , thanks again.

    Thanks for this training. It helped me to troubleshoot and permanently fix the problems with our dryer not heating. Turns out the guy who my wife bought a second-hand dryer from did a botched job of repairing the machine before he sold it to her. I found electrical wires exposed that caused sparks and was shorting out the dryer. There were also other things done that was just not done well but they are now all fixed.

    Good problem solving process. The one odd thing that really helped out is around the 8 minute mark. You said check the new parts to make sure they are good. After troubleshooting for a while, I tested the new part and sure enough, it was defective. Replaced that and I was back in business. Thanks.

    I followed your advice on using the multimeter, and checking the fuses in back. Be sure to take off the covers before testing the fuses or you can get a false reading! I read that on a comment by William on part 2, and re-tested the fuse. After it tested okay with the covers on, without the covers, it was not working after all. Quick fix then of the thermal fuse. Total cost to fix: $22 for fuse at local appliance shop and $10 for the multimeter at Home Depot. THANK YOU SO MUCH! YOURS IS THE BEST FIX-IT VIDEO FOR THIS ISSUE ON THE WEB!

    After posting the last comment I found part 2, thank you, it was very useful... So I pulled the front panel off and discovered my problem was simply the connection to the igniter just came unplugged (broken clip). I urged it in and low and begs there was heat. Thanks for the awesome video! As a wife of a very hardworking DIY husband who has spent the last 3 weeks trying to fix my car, I didn't want to burden him with my broken dryer. All the "help" on the internet said check the lint, hose, etc, which I did and it was so clean. I'm so glad I found your video, everything was so clearly shown and explained and now I feel like a pro! Hey Chris great video. I'm going to troubleshoot my dryer today. However I wanted to point out that when you were checking the upper thermostats in the back at around 5:50 you re-installed the wires backwards, but I'm sure you caught that, I hope lol. Thanks for posting, this is awesome.

    • @chrisfix
      @chrisfix  10 років тому +1

      Good eye. Yea it doesnt matter what order those wires are in. All that sensor does is create a continuous electrical circuit. If that circuit is broken, the heat shuts off. On the thermostat the circuit is broken when the heat exceeds a certain temp.

    Thanks for helping me save about $200. Vary fast fix. I also had a bad thermal fuse. The other thing I would add is my multi-meter also has a "continuity mode" which I found to be better than the ohm setting. The beeping for a closed circuit was clearer for me rather than reading the ohms. But, thanks again.

    After watching your video I was able to diagnose my dryer in 5 minutes saving me lots of $. It was the fuse. One comment, the fuse showed good on the meter when the two wires were connected. Being suspicious I disconnected the wires in order to isolate it and it then showed no continuity. It is probably best to isolate each component before testing because each model of dryer may be slightly different in its wiring.

    Thanks for the help! Another thermal fuse here as well that was shot. And, we were able to trip it out to test that it was in fact that issue. Heated right up when my husband faked the fuse (I’m sorry, I don’t know the correct terminology for that). Nice $6.50 fix and UA-cam and it’s great content creators to the rescue once again. Thanks so much.

    Great video. Thanks VERY much. Our dryer crapped out yesterday. Repairman was going to run $75 for the service call, plus whatever parts were needed. We were planning on AT LEAST $100. I was able to determine the fuse was bad and swapped it out in about 30 minutes, including going to buy the new fuse.

    Hi no the actual thermal coupler sensor (one side of it anyway) broke off. I was able to get the broken part out of the "cap" with the wires, remove the coupler, find a part (our sears parts store closed up here) and replace it. Dryer fired right up. Total repair $20 (plus a little swearing)!! Thanks for making this video. It saved me so much.

      Jeremy Harris Glad the video was helpful. Be careful with the 20amp fuse. The thermal fuse could have blown for a reason (dirty vent) so make sure you address that.

      Hi Chris, can this process be very similar to an electric dryer?

  • @GaryTKerr
    @GaryTKerr Рік тому

    Glad it worked. I'm no electrical guy, but found it interesting at 5:30-5:50 minutes into video the wires were reinstalled opposite of the way they came off. Must not matter because it worked?
