Badalamenti works with Lynch on almost all of Lynch's films. Lynch is directly involved in the scores and sound design for all of his films (and Twin Peaks), to develop unique integration between the visuals and the music. In the opening scene of "Blue Velvet" (McLaughlin's discovery of the ear in the field) there's no music. Just the ringing in the ears sound that we all hear when we're alone and quiet, and the sound of insects in the grassy field.
The ear represents a sinister touch of evil in the midst of innocence (personified by the virginal girl-next-door, Laura Dern).

There's something so eerily fascinating about Frank Booth, seeing a soft side to him, the way he gets choked up watching her sing, considering his chaotic personality and how he usually is. He really is an interesting character shrouded in mystery.

@@luismarioguerrerosanchez4747 for me his character is a case of oedipus complex. The way he treats Dorothy, I think, replicates the abuse his father made against her mother.
We can understand this by the phrases he says during the first scene at Dorothy's appartament:"Baby want to fuck" "Dont you fucking look at me, daddy is coming home".
The songs that he loves are, maybe, the ones the mother loved too. so, when he listens to this songs, he remembers all the pain that his father caused to his mother and the same pain that he's causing to Dorothy.
      This character is very complex.

Or maybe he’s regretting what he did to her but he can’t stop because he likes the pain he causes to her. I really don’t know, that’s why I love that single moment.

Even though I felt that I didn't like it, there is something so strangely fascinating and alluring about the film. You can't help thinking about it for the rest of your life. Aida I agree with you. I watched it in 1986 and it's still in my mind. The nightmare starts with a close-up inside a severed ear and ends zooming out from MacLachlan's ear, like if the town is a living organism, peaceful on the outside and rotten on the inside. And in the final scene, you hear the music "come clear and dance in light" and birds chirping.

Exactly my thoughts! I saw it last week and there’s something about this song that actually made david so irritated that he had to make a film about it, and it ended to be so confusing like the song itself. He caught the depressing sense of blue velvet, its beautiful but yet it just itches your mind into something more deep than this depressing sensation of the song, and i guess david thought the need to frame this song into this strange situation of human lives. This song is so mysterious and so is his film. it just kept bounding in my head over and over again, i couldn’t take it out of my mind 😂 to the degree that i see the blue color now from a whole different angle. That’s why the song is so brilliant. Its pretty obvious that He’s influenced by kubrick’s clockwork orange. It’s my first time watching any of lynch’s work and i think its a good entrance into twin peaks.

Just drunk purchased the film because of this video. What an incredible film, so lucky my best friend wanted to watch it with me. Thanks for uploading, I constantly go back to it. And now I'll subscribe :)

It is an incredible film! You dive in horrors through a severed ear and when you emerge from Kyle MacLachlan's ear the horrors have ended; that is so relieving!

I knew of this movie cuz Selena it's one of her fave movies. She even paid tribute to the character Dorothy in her performance for same old love in 2015 on the jimmy Fallon show. I didn't know what the hell this movie was until Selena. Omg. And Selena watched the movie with Abel in 2017. Looks like Selena was the one who got Abel to like this movie and it became their movie. And Abel paid tribute to the movie in his videos like blinding lights, Save your tears and take my breath. All songs for Selena. Abel sure as hell is devoted to his wifey. Wow. So romantic.
