She's a MONSTER! Could out-sing any man or woman in the known universe, yesterday and today. 20 studio albums, 11 Grammys, and the first female vocalist to fill stadiums! She has sung it all from country to pop to rock to blues to jazz, Spanish language, and even opera. Dig in my friend, she is a once-in-a-century artist!
YESSSSS!! I WAS WATCHING A VIDEO RECENTLY AND THE REACTOR ASKED, RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU HAD A CRUSH ON HER BACK IN THE 70’s. Sitting next to my wife of 53 years, I raised my hand. Ms Ronstadt is one of the classiest women and vocalist of all time.
My favourite female singer of all time. Absolutely sublime. I was lucky enough to see her live in concert twice. Amazing. No autotune, no stripping, no prancing around like an idiot, just pure raw talent.
She really was incredible. Great voices are out there, but Linda Ronstadt was a student of the profession, she understood everything there is to know about singing and she sang to perfection with so much emotion, so much feel. This woman was also a great singer in rock & roll, opera, Mexican, and other genres too. She was as great as she was beautiful and God knows she was beautiful.
The lovely Linda no one can touch her, she was one of the top female artists of the 70's and 80's, she did this live, no auto tune artists don't perform like this anymore. She was a pure musical genius who explored multiple musical genres and was a smashing success in all of them!
Damn, I'm old enough to remember when this was playing on the radio everyday! I was only 4, but I remember it like it was yesterday! Some songs just stay with you and this is one of them!
Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock. She has had so many hits such as "Blue Bayou", "You're No Good", "Long Long Time", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Desperado" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs.
And standards, Broadway, and largest selling non English album in US history too, no one in music has had hits across so many genres. Her Spanish albums are amazing, even for those who don’t speak Spanish
Don't forget she also starred on Broadway and the movie of Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Pirates of Penzance". My understanding is that, although she had the range, she went into intensive study to understand the light opera delivery.
"Blue Bayou" was originally written, sung, and recorded by Roy Orbison at the end of 1961. It must be experienced as most Roy Orbison’s masterpieces. Linda has a gorgeous voice. I’ve seen her several times and love her dearly.
She was beautiful, tough and fierce as hell. She fought to do her music her way. She fought the studios every step of the way to perform what she wanted. She says that the reason she did the covers was to appease them so she could do the music she wanted. I just love her! When I listen to Long Long Time, it always brings a tear.
Yes Travis now you've found one of my favorite singers and a great song. Love Roy Orbison doing it as well. Linda was so popular with that million dollar voice. Wore out a cassette of hers with my first player. 🦋🎶
Growing up with the music of the 60's-80's, and having heard the music of the 20's through the 50's thanks to my parents--how spoiled am I? Solid musicianship, songwriting, and performance. Granted, not everyone could reach the summits Linda hits, but many did in those eras. Those days of riding my bike with a transistor radio strapped to the handlebars, with one great tune following another--bliss!
I loved growing up listening and singing along with Linda. She was beautiful, funny and a fantastic singer. I saw her on a documentary last year. She can still sing even though she is ill. I just love her!! Great reaction, thanks!
My understanding is that she can NOT sing now. Or at least...she won't because she no longer has control over her voice. Been that way for some time now. Believe she is "retired".
Her concerts from 1976 thru the mid '80s were legendary, and always great. By this time, arenas had excellent sound reproduction, mixboards for the different instruments and mikes, and speaker placesment for the audiences to enjoy. They could be perfect sounding - "better than the record" because of the power of seeing these performances live.
UA-cam has a good number of this era's live performances, and all are fantastic. Her band often consists of wild-haired guitarist Waddy Wachtel, the late great Kenny Edwards on bass, sometimes Andrew Gold on keys and guitar, often Russ Kunkel on drums. But all of her musicians were basically The Top Session Players for decades.
Love your shirt! Linda Ronstadt is the greatest female voice of all time. She has a forty year catalogue spanning multiple genres and she tackles each one with perfection. You won’t hear a sweeter, more powerful voice. She’s the best! “Someone to Lay Down Beside Me” from this same 1977 concert is another stunner! No autotune here! 🌺✌️
This woman has earned 11 Grammys!! She's incredible, and has crossed many genres: rock, country, Latin, etc. She even played the lead in Gilbert & Sullivan's operetta Pirates of Penzance (opposite Kevin Kline...check it out!). Unfortunately, she is suffering from a degenerative condition and is no longer able to sing. I can't imagine how hard that must be for her! Thank you for your reaction. She is one of my faves!
Got to agree with you.she could be singing the phone book and id listen. Not hard on the eyes at all, AND THEN: she has that voice too👍😎been lovinnthis song from her for decades now.. never gets old. Just hit the sub button. Just found you today2/26/22. Nice first video for me to hear in your chann. Keep them and ill be here. Dan. A fan from north florida. Usa.🙏 ps. That last note is just too much..
6:30 This song is of the country-rock genre, which is rock songs played with country instruments. If there had been a group photo of those that developed the genre in the very early 70s Linda would have been front center.
If you search the dictionary for the word awesome, you'll see Linda Ronstadt's beautiful, smiling face. I have followed her since the 70's and one thing is crystal clear; she nails every single genre she attempts. She has given the world her heart and soul, and will continue to be listened to by future generations...You can bank that!
You should hear her Spanish Album.. it’s jaw dropping..!! I am a Mexican American millennial that knows most famous Spanish artist and even though she is not well known in the Mexican music world, I can tell you she is 10xs better than most of them. She knows her singing on both sides! Love Linda! She’s one of my idols!
Linda crossed genres (rock, country, Spanish, folk, big band. Movie soundtrack & classical). She was in demand as a duet/trio partner. I still have her original Greatest Hits album along with a couple others. Others have told you about the “Eagles” as her back up…she recorded their song “Desperado” before them & they liked her arrangement so much they kept it when they remade it. She was honored at the Kennedy Center a few years ago. Unfortunately MS, or Parkinson’s, has taken her voice away. Different Drum & You’re No Good are a couple of her big hits along with Desperado. She’s amazing. Thanks for giving her the attention she deserves!
Carry Underwear, uh, Underwood, sang this for Linda in 2019 for Kennedy Center Honors. it was originally Roy Orbison's song in the early 1960's. she is so much more than just country music , you cannot nail her down to one genre, as so many want to do in their need to categorize according to their own musical preferences. She is the best person to ever come out of yes, Tucson AZ. What are the qualifications for the greatest vocalist of all time? Musical preferences? skill? ability?, or popularity regardless of skill? tone quality? Musicality?...what is it? everyone is unique...I'm the greatest singer in the shower. Yes interpretation is VERY important and if all you do is scream like a diva over the top, you miss the whole point of music and it's many powers. Many think music is an athletic event where there are winners and losers...no thanks...I was a music teacher, all my students were winners as far as I was concerned. Try Linda singing the song "What's New?"
Fun Facts Travis...Blue Bayou was co-written by another (one of the best) vocalists...Roy Orbison. Original Ronstadt band members were Glenn Frey/Don Henley. She pushed them out of the nest and they formed a little band called the Eagles. As stated earlier...Linda was a vocal assassin working in all genres....she kinda reminds me of another young singer who does the same.....MORISSETTE!
They weren't pushed out, they "had " to room together because money was tight and they hit it off and realized each others strengths and weaknesses. I love me some Alanis but she isn't anywhere near LInda Ronstadt all things considered.
So soft at first, Linda's voice has, in this song. Then... "I'm going BACK some day...." Travis, did you hear that symbol crash at that moment ! Linda's voice is so smooth and so bold. It's mostly because that's who she IS. While many female vocalists sound great, ONLY a FEW have that openness in her voice like she has. I can name ONLY a few others.
I love Linda Ronstadt's voice. Once you get a realization for what she can do, you'll want all the rest of her work. She has done country, rock, Mexican (her father's influence). Analyst Wings of Pegasus has done a breakdown with the equipment as to how pure her tones and notes are, how even the vibrato. It's a good look. I grew up with her music as I was in high school and college. Try Long, Long Time, You're No Good, It Doesn't Matter Anymore, Heat Wave, Silver Threads and Golden Needles. Her album Canciones de mi Padre is gorgeous, if you aren't familiar with Spanish, use the translation tool. Oh and Desperado is also great, matter of fact, I don't think she ever did a bad song. She's still on my playlist from Spotify.
Linda Rondstat and Karen Carpenter had THE MOST PURE voices EVER, RIP Karen and Linda cannot sing even a note anymore due to Parkinson's Disease!! I grew up with them both as my vocal idols!! I'm 60 now!😘

Kinda sorta Country. She's a dividing line, folk and country and rock, and led to a lot of other artists who tread that middleground too. I forget who said it (it was probably either Glenn Frey or Don Henley) but her biggest problem appeared to be pretty much every man she met falling in love with her. And no knock on Carrie, she really can't touch this.
You insult Linda by calling her a Titan of "Country Music". By saying that you have put a 'qualifier' where there should be none. She is a 'Titan of Music". Period. She has won 13 Grammys. Linda Ronstadt and Ann Wilson are the two greatest in rock .

no autotune, no smoke n mirrors...just TALENT:) Thanks for reacting...one of my faves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A titan in country, pop, rock, you name it, she has killed it.
She is also a titan on Broadway. You should hear her sing Poor Wandering One from the Pirates of Penzance.
Now that lady is a real singer! Beautiful!
Crushed hard for that woman..........50 yrs ago, all these yrs later......she's still on my play list ❤🎙😎👌

One of the finest voices in all of music ever!
My mom got to see Linda in concert in the early 90s and swears she doesn't need a microphone. 💙 from Texas!

Top 10? #1!!! No one else comes close to her vocal range and versatility. Pop, Country, R&B, Rock 'n' Roll, opera and traditional Mexican.
She is a Titan in so many genres of music. Not just country
thanks, TT - my favorite by Linda -- this version.. she's just so CASUAL -- jeans, tank top, swayin' to the music.. and PERFECT soaring vocals..
Saw her opening for the Eagles-my first live concert…. Love her. 🦋✌🏻…. Hmmm ‘75.
Wow !
@@TeaTimeWithTravis lol yeah, i am old but blessed to have witnessed amazing music Live…..when it was ‘affordable’

Love Linda Ronstadt so much!! Her voice is like no other. Will you please react to more Linda?
