- Championship chasing Liverpool brought their superstars to St James Park and a Newcastle side who had been around the bottom 3 all season.
On the back of 4 straight defeats, manager Jim Smith gave Danish new signing Frank Pingel his 2nd start alongside a recalled Mirandinha. Both were to feature heavily especially the Brazilian who almost scored with one of the strikes of the season.
Newcastle found form during and after this game only losing 1 in 7 games which ultimately wasn't enough to save them from relegation.
Attendance: 30,966

What a shot from mirandhina
+Steven Mckenna I was right in line with it down the front of the Gallowgate. I swear Grobelaar never even saw it, the first he knew was when he heard the sound of the ball whacking the post behind him.
I also remember getting soaked to the skin at that game. It never stopped ploating it down but the atmosphere was still electric.
Mira slapping Nicol around the heed 🤣
8:55 goal of the decade.
I was at this game
Me too. In the Leazes end.
Gob on the take
when clubs were generally playing with players from their own nations everything was more interesting. english teams were like really english, german german , turkish turkish. but today it has lost its meaning. for me foreign limitation must really come back
Liverpool's team for this game:
Grobbelaar - Zimbabwe
Abblett - England
Burrows - England
Nichol - Scotland
Houghton - Ireland
McMahon - England
Molby - Denmark
Whealan - Ireland
Aldridge - Ireland
Barnes - England
Rush - Wales
Newcastle's scorers were from Brazil and Denmark. There were only four Englishmen playing for the Toon that day and four for Liverpool. Your comment doesn't really hold up, does it ferkan ferkanovich?
@@blackbettybameram 9 british in liverpool, so?
