i once had a "Rambo 3 bowie knife (taiwan special) made of surgical steel. 2 pound paper weight. Took it to 4 ppl to sharpen it. It WOULD NOT take an edge. Flushed $ 100. Down the toidy with that pos. I do love my Buck knives. ( canoe pocket knife, packlite max 3,large bantam orange camo lockback, Frontiersman bowie.) all are awesome. Have a great day sir.
I just bought a buck 110 like I had in high school, at 63 years old and owning hundreds of knives I love this thing like I did back then. Truly a piece of art that’s great for everyday use.
I’m not sold on these Buck knives, like the 124, 120, 119, 103, 102, 105, 118, 110, 112, 113, 401, 301, 303, Vanguard, CSAR-T, Duke. Well, come to think of it I own all those, so maybe I am sold😉
I just bought a 124 two days ago, and it arrived yesterday in the mail. So far I’ve spent about six hours whittling with it, and I absolutely love it. Already carved a nice angled spatula and a set of drink stirrers, out of hard seasoned Black Cherry wood. The knife carves wood like a dream. For the last seven years I’ve carried my Buck 119 nearly every day, but with my new 124 I think I’ve found a new daily user. The handle fills my hand better than any other knife I own, with the exception of a high-end custom knife that has a nearly identical handle. I absolutely love this 124. Can’t believe how nicely designed it is.
I have a Buck 120 that I purchased through a mail order catalog in the 90's, never used this knife and it's been in the back shelf of my gun safe forever. Over the last 5 years I've once again started buying knives, mostly Case collectable knives but also bushcrafter knives especially Esee. But, for about 6 months, I've had the urge to get the Buck 124 and yesterday while at work I went online and ordered a new one. Still waiting for the new 124 to arrive I decided to lookup the date on my 120. Reaching to the rear of my safe I pulled out a full tang Buck knife in it's original sheath. My first thought was that 120 aren't fully tang knives....nope but a 1995 124 certainly is!!! 😉 Big surprise! Now I have a new 2023 Buck 124 in route to go with my 1995 Buck 124. Feeling excited 😄
.........This is a good one, Dan.....I love my Buck knives !!.........My most sentimental one is a 119 that my now deceased wife gave me in the early to mid 90's. It has the black phenolic (SP?) handle and aluminum finger guard and bolster ( butt cap ). It still looks the same but has a little barely noticeable sharpening wear on the blade. I looked up the date code on it and it was made in 1992......I carried it for a lot of miles but it is permanently retired now to my collection . I could never replace it. .........I will discuss my 110's when you get around to the folders.........When I retired the 119 listed above I bought another.....This time with cocobolo wood handle and brass finger guard and bolster.....I feel like this is the most beautiful knife I own....but still has all the qualities of a great Buck knife......Texas last year repealed the prohibited knife laws and now we can carry any knife we want to.....so my 119 rides everyday on my left side....The belt strap on the cocobolo series sheaths is easily trained to allow horizontal carry and it easily lays along my belt and is concealed by my oversized shirt worn tails out....The snap is easily popped with my fingers and the 119 is instantly out and in my hand......to trim those annoying hangnails.!!...... ..........So I like the cocobolo series so much I also ordered the little 102 Woodsman and the 105 Pathfinder , I believe it is called.....The 102 is a perfect small belt knife for doing fine work or about anything you want it to do....The 105 is probably the perfect overall size of the three in my humble opinion....All come razor sharp out of the box and can be easily touched up with a steel.....Some say the cocobolo is a laminated wood but there is actually a cocobolo tree that grows in South America....Please excuse my long winded review but you started it and I'm glad you did.........I love these knife talks.......Peace to you and yours and please stay healthy...Greg
I have the 124 buck in black that my dad bought for me brand new (as a set), starting high school, about 1977. I have the companion folder as well. the bigger knife is in mint condition, the folding knife is in excellent shape. I still have the original cases as well, the 124 is mint and the folder is still in good condition. I carried that folding knife for many years and it was used regularly. I have taken good care of it but it does show some wear. As I mentioned, these were given to me by my father who's been gone for some time so they have very sentimental value to me. I carry other knifes and keep these bucks in storage.
I got the buck 119, and buck 110 in 1995 they've worked for me. Gutted a few deer since then. The material in the handle is actually the material used in making billiard balls. Fairly strong.
Great knives!!! Buck knives are one of my favorite knife companies, along with Victorinox Swiss Army knives. My favorite fixed blade is the Nighthawk. The Frontier series are very nice!!! I got to meet the Buck family on several occasions when they were based in San Diego where I was born and raised. 5:59
The buck 117 is my favorite. Wish buck would put it in the standard lineup. It's a great size, between the 102 and 119, with the same handle as the 105
Hey, I like the 124 and have it coming in the mail. I wanted to put my 2 cents in on the guard. I grew up with an obsession with swords and those who wielded them in basically every relevant way. I bounced from martial art to martial art throughout my life since I was 8(I'm now 31). I did olympic style fencing on a competitive level and learned how to use the guard to catch and leverage the opponents blade. After fencing I went to something more utilitarian, the knife. Naturally I was curious about its use in combat. Heres the thing about knife fighting, the blades are too short to be effectively parried, they arent swords and so are much more maneuverable in very close quarters making "Parrying" practically irrelevant. In most arts using knives they teach to go attack the hands rather than trying to parry the blade as the blade can easily change angle and direction much faster than a sword or machete attack can be "pulled" to attack again from a completely different angle. Essentially the blade is so close to the hand why go for the blade at all? if you can reach the blade then you can reach the hand. Hitting the blade accomplishes nothing and hitting the hand could disable and even kill if it hits an artery. Sorry, all that to tell you this: The guard is to prevent over penetration, knife isnt too helpful if its stuck in someone or something. You can find old boar hunting spears that had similar "crossguards" up towards the tip to stop charging boar from just "running up" the spear. Same for using a knife while hunting boar or fighting off charging animals. Helps keep the blades handle from getting partially lodged in the animal or enemy. Some guards were also big enough to punch with. Im learning about knife making and so Im trying to learn about the features of different knives from various cultures and times and why they are used. Cant wait to get that 124, Never had a straight back "bowie" knife and it looks very elegant. Worried the Micarta handles might still be really slick honestly, need to see if there is a way to rough up the surface texture of the micarta handle without making it look too ugly. Ive handled the Compadre and I like it, I also want to try holding the GCK series as they look very modern with a well thought out comfortable design. They apparently make great outdoor knives and are very sturdy. Another fun fact not enough people know is the "Blood groove" has nothing to do with blood or penetration or suction, Its there to both reduce and adjust weight distribution. Fullers can be placed low on the blade for a more forward heavy knife while a fuller that runs nearly the length of the knife will more evenly lower the blades mass overall making them more agile and so better fighters at the cost of overall structural reinforcement rather than heavy beaters/camp/survival knives that either have a smaller lower fuller or often no fuller at all. War knives like the Mk2 US fighting knife(most famously known as "the Kabar") are balanced to make it fast for fighting but also strong enough to withstand survival and camp tasks out in the field. Wouldnt recommend batonning with them(they are "stick tangs" making them prone to breaking at the guard with too much force) but short of that its pretty much up to any task. Sorry for the long comment, I was a fencing teacher too and apparently I was a natural at communicating knowledge... To put it another way I communicate like a teacher and I cant turn it off. Some mistake it as "talking down", I am sorry if is how I somehow came across, just sharing what Ive learned in my fascination with blades new and old of all sizes.
I have a C.R.K.T. Model 5470 fossil folder. It's the kind of knife you have to hold. Once you hold one , you're screwed . Because you're going to buy it. I flipped the flipper thingy and just the way it feels ," SOLD" . Didn't even ask the price. It's like having a full size knife , in a folder. It's nothing like a 110 or any other knife. Out of 7 people who have held it , played with it . All 7 now own one!!!! Nuff said !!! It's a weird looking knife , and it's a tad bit heavy , but it feels like a knife, a real knife. Where I go , it goes. I feel totally safe with it ,woods or streets !!!! I have a 110 ,119 ,120 , great knives. Can't beat Buck for quality and endurance. My other top #3 is Mora knives , cheap , but great knives. Peace.

I just got a 119 a week ago - smaller than I expected but still spectacular. I got a 110 folder with the leather snap sheath, because my dad has had one my whole life (I'm 41). Currently BUCK is out of 120 so that's why I've been looking into the 124. Thanks for your video. - Pennsylvania
Nice knives. I am working on getting a 124. I got one but wasn’t happy with the grind. Sent it back and will order a new one. 120 is awesome too. 119 is a timeless classic. The 112 slim is a deal and a half. $29. It’s very light and super handy. Buck knows what they are doing. 👍👍
My favorite is my signed and numbered “Chuck Buck” Bowie. Although I wouldn’t be using it as it’s a mint beauty that I just wouldn’t want to get marred and scratched up.
I got a 124 about a year ago now. I love that thing and I won't ever get rid of it. I use it for all kinds of things im probably not suppose too. The 124 of by far my favorite knife I own or that I've seen. I love hearing you've had 2 for 30 years and 40 years. I hope im buried with mine.

I have a 1970s 105 Woodsman that was my great-uncles. It is a nice little knife and It has been in the family since he passed and it is a beautiful little knife
I've always wanted a 124 Frontiersman. Buck sent me a picture of the blade stock without the handle assembled and it is a full width handle tang which even better. Eventually I will get one of these. I am currently awaiting a 4 dot 1982 finger groove 110 I had them put a drop point blade on. Only $10 and I should get it next week. Glad Buck is here in Idaho with many other knife companies.
Gerber Big Rock Camp Knife. I hated this knife with a passion. It never held an edge. I was living in New Zealand at the time, when I bought it, so it cost a lot more then in the States. I was so angry with this knife, I tracked down the importer and told him I wanted my money back. He said keep the knife and look up a knife in the catalog that was about the same cost and he would make sure I got it delivered to my home. I asked for the Gerber military knife and true to his word, I got it a few days later. Very good customer service to me.
My favorite Buck Knives are probably the 110 Folding Hunter, 102 Woodsman, and 224 Frontiersman, if I had my choice of 2,124 for the belt and 110 in my pocket
I love my 119. And I've used many a "trading post special " as a wilderness survival instructor for the boy scouts. Some of those knives I was handed by scouts had such poorly treated Chinese steel I had to use 4 different kids knives to make one bow drill set.
I love bucks steel , I am interested in getting the 124 .right now I carry a custom 110 with box elder burl covers and spine file work .it is definitely my favorite as of right now .edc it everyday in a hitch and timber belt sheath.
I own a Buck Personal, Pathfinder and the Special. Of the three I like the Personal the best. Small and easy to use when cleaning fish, rabbits, squirrels or even deer. Bought it way back in the 80's. I think the steel was better back then. Plus I like the old style sheaths better.
Great video! Love Buck knives. My favorite Buck I'd say the Compadre. There's nothing I can't do with it from the kitchen to woods and water. Only 1 type of knife I don't like frame locks they suck everything else I can make work.
Hey Dan, enjoyed this video. I'm 58 yrs old from the North end of Cajun Country here in South Louisiana. Always been a 5 1/2" folding Old-Timer kinda guy. Cleaned around 200 deer/hogs with the Old-Timer Folder. But, summer 2021, I've been eyeing the Buck Knives, particularly the 119. However, I went cheap & bought the Harbor Freight knock-off of the 119 last week. Nothing wrong with that knife, other than its Made in China. And, for that, I regret buying it. Since last week, my interest has turned to big brother, the 120. I will order the 120 & personilze it before the week is up. And, depending on the 120's quality, I will likely ho ahead & order the real deal in 119 & ditch the China knock-off. Ive never held a Buck knife in my hand til last deer season. A friend of mind brought one to deer camp & he luvs his. It looked & felt solid & was very sharp. So, although I'm a lil late getting in the Buck Family, its better late than never!!!
The 119 was given to me by Uncle. In the mid 80s when I got out of the Army but was still in the Texas NG. That knife when everywhere with when deployed. I was doing field craft before there was field craft. This knife I have allows me to gut, skin, bust through the pelvic bone with out cutting the bladder) and quarter out a deer very effectively. Carrying the 119 in truck I have got the back strap and hindquarters off of deer on the side of the rode in Alabama in the winter. Thanks for posting....

Love buck knives. The 110 is my daily carry. But got 2 119s, a 120, and a 124. The 124 is my favorite. Beautiful knife. Its a beast. But not ridiculously large. Perfect size. Perfect weight. I just wish buck had more options for handles
My father in law has carried and skinned deer with buck knives his entire life I think. I moved on to more bushcraft knives but am a big fan of buck still myself!
I agree with you on several points you. Especially on scandi grind for wood and hallow grind for meat processing. I love the 2 knives you showed but I would also add one more. The 112 for smaller game. Very similar to the 109 just in a smaller package.
Buck knives is great for the out doors work I . I like the 102 as well I have. The 119 to I like that buckskin on the Handel I am going to try that to . I have the Navy seal buck knife to. Its a big knife to great video stay well
I would say for the past 50 years my favorite is the Kalinga model ..You have a good collection of the size i like to work with in the field .. I'm leaning towards the 120 model as my next knife ..I do like the design of the 119 model also ..
I was gifted a Buck Custom Shop Kalinga for my 16th birthday, that was 40 years ago. It's still the most beautiful knife in my collection, and my cherished companion during the deer season. The only knife I desire more is the Buck 904 Sub-Hilt Bowie. There is no more beautiful expression of bladecraft than that sub-hilt!!! Google it!

I do like seeing the difference in opinions and knives you can go all the way back to the stone age and see different shapes and sizes different tribes or people prefer I like the 102 as a EDC blade light and easy to use. Not a bush craft knife but it's the Indian not the arrow that counts in most situations.
Thank you for sharing your favorite sheath knives. I’ve never had a bad knife and I’ve not ever bought a knife that cost over $100. I got a little grief over the first sheath knife I bought. It was a “cheap Chinese” knife I bought back around 1975. It cost me $10.97 then for the two knife set (one has a blade about 12” long the other about 6.5”) they are both hollow grind 440 stainless. Both hold an edge well and haven’t let me down yet. I have used the smaller knife the most. Before you wonder, I like my Buck 124 really well and use it too.
Grt video. To me Buck knives is such an ironic brand. I started hunting in 78 or 79 & my father and all the older men all had a buck knife. Most of them had an ax & a Buck 110. I grew up with Buck knive. Keep the videos coming
Here is something you should know. Before 1981, the specially heat treated stainless steel used was 440C, and from 1981 to 1992 the company used 425M steel. Now they use 420HC Stainless steel
I had some knives that are better than the other but never one unusable. I have used a lot of cheap knives and a lot of expensive knives, the user controls the knife not the other way around. Thanks for the video
I have never owned a bad knife. Some are better that others but they all their uses. Skill goes a long way when it comes to knives. Using a knife for something other than what it is really intended for does not make it a bad knife. ie a thick blade probably shouldn't be use for slicing small fruit! Thanks Dan!
I’ve had 2 bad knives. Moore Maker and Great Eastern Cutlery which was worst of the two. Pocket knives not sheath knives. Both were almost worthless. You could dull them by looking at them.
@ no they were both well made knives as far as fitness in the springs with good snap and no wobble. The problem was with the heat treating. That was done poorly or not at all. I want to tell you in case you don’t know there is a knife sharpener by the name of Rada. Very inexpensive and does a fantastic job of sharpening knives. Received mine yesterday and I am very impressed. I sharpened several kitchen knives in just a few minutes. I was skeptical at first but I am glad that I have one. If you don’t already have one get one. You will be amazed at how easy it is to sharpen a knife.

So what makes a "bushcraft" knife? I carry an Esee 4. It may be considered a survival/tactical knife. I use it when bushcrafting and hanging in the woods.
Little knowlage on the Buck Blade Steel: Basic 420: 0.12% Carbon, 13% Chromium | Buck 420HC 0.46 Carbon 13.00 Chromium Buck uses 420HC for most of their basic knives! And they are known to do the best heat treatment for it on the maket! All 420 type steels are basically stain proof and super tough, they generally struggle against abrasive materials! They also use steels such as S30V wich have significantly more complex makeups and are supposed to be tougther and hold their edge longer!
My great grandpa is still alive and still has his 119 he’s had forever he still skins deer with it. it’s sad he’s talking about how he’s getting old and he’s gonna pass it down to me, I like that knife but I want him to stay young as long as possible

Well, I have two 119’s. One black handle and one cocoabola handle. My 124 however is my favorite. Even though you weren’t talking folders I always rock my 124 with a 110. Don’t really know why both but why fight it.
Is there any advantage to either buck’s Individual clip point design - I.e is the later model, the wooden handle one, would that be a more robust grind for a tip? Etc thanks for answering.

From France, i had one or two 110, and my favorite are the new "quickfire" boot knife, and the old 119 in 440 C steel....

In most arts using knives they teach to go attack the hands rather than trying to parry the blade as the blade can easily change angle and direction much faster than a sword or machete attack can be "pulled" to attack again from a completely different angle. Essentially the blade is so close to the hand why go for the blade at all? if you can reach the blade then you can reach the hand. Hitting the blade accomplishes nothing and hitting the hand could disable and even kill if it hits an artery.
Sorry, all that to tell you this:
The guard is to prevent over penetration, knife isnt too helpful if its stuck in someone or something. You can find old boar hunting spears that had similar "crossguards" up towards the tip to stop charging boar from just "running up" the spear. Same for using a knife while hunting boar or fighting off charging animals. Helps keep the blades handle from getting partially lodged in the animal or enemy. Some guards were also big enough to punch with.
Im learning about knife making and so Im trying to learn about the features of different knives from various cultures and times and why they are used.
Cant wait to get that 124, Never had a straight back "bowie" knife and it looks very elegant. Worried the Micarta handles might still be really slick honestly, need to see if there is a way to rough up the surface texture of the micarta handle without making it look too ugly.
Ive handled the Compadre and I like it, I also want to try holding the GCK series as they look very modern with a well thought out comfortable design. They apparently make great outdoor knives and are very sturdy.
Another fun fact not enough people know is the "Blood groove" has nothing to do with blood or penetration or suction, Its there to both reduce and adjust weight distribution.
Fullers can be placed low on the blade for a more forward heavy knife while a fuller that runs nearly the length of the knife will more evenly lower the blades mass overall making them more agile and so better fighters at the cost of overall structural reinforcement rather than heavy beaters/camp/survival knives that either have a smaller lower fuller or often no fuller at all. War knives like the Mk2 US fighting knife(most famously known as "the Kabar") are balanced to make it fast for fighting but also strong enough to withstand survival and camp tasks out in the field. Wouldnt recommend batonning with them(they are "stick tangs" making them prone to breaking at the guard with too much force) but short of that its pretty much up to any task.
Sorry for the long comment, I was a fencing teacher too and apparently I was a natural at communicating knowledge... To put it another way I communicate like a teacher and I cant turn it off. Some mistake it as "talking down", I am sorry if is how I somehow came across, just sharing what Ive learned in my fascination with blades new and old of all sizes.

I have a C.R.K.T. Model 5470 fossil folder. It's the kind of knife you have to hold. Once you hold one , you're screwed . Because you're going to buy it. I flipped the flipper thingy and just the way it feels ," SOLD" . Didn't even ask the price. It's like having a full size knife , in a folder. It's nothing like a 110 or any other knife. Out of 7 people who have held it , played with it . All 7 now own one!!!! Nuff said !!! It's a weird looking knife , and it's a tad bit heavy , but it feels like a knife, a real knife. Where I go , it goes. I feel totally safe with it ,woods or streets !!!! I have a 110 ,119 ,120 , great knives. Can't beat Buck for quality and endurance. My other top #3 is Mora knives , cheap , but great knives. Peace.

I just got a 119 a week ago - smaller than I expected but still spectacular. I got a 110 folder with the leather snap sheath, because my dad has had one my whole life (I'm 41). Currently BUCK is out of 120 so that's why I've been looking into the 124.

My favorite is my signed and numbered “Chuck Buck” Bowie. Although I wouldn’t be using it as it’s a mint beauty that I just wouldn’t want to get marred and scratched up.
I am a 120 fan for a large knife in camping and hunting. Next is the 192 for straight hunting and Buck 110 for on the ranch.
I got a 124 about a year ago now. I love that thing and I won't ever get rid of it. I use it for all kinds of things im probably not suppose too. The 124 of by far my favorite knife I own or that I've seen. I love hearing you've had 2 for 30 years and 40 years. I hope im buried with mine.

I have a 1970s 105 Woodsman that was my great-uncles. It is a nice little knife and It has been in the family since he passed and it is a beautiful little knife
I've always wanted a 124 Frontiersman. Buck sent me a picture of the blade stock without the handle assembled and it is a full width handle tang which even better. Eventually I will get one of these. I am currently awaiting a 4 dot 1982 finger groove 110 I had them put a drop point blade on. Only $10 and I should get it next week. Glad Buck is here in Idaho with many other knife companies.
Gerber Big Rock Camp Knife. I hated this knife with a passion. It never held an edge. I was living in New Zealand at the time, when I bought it, so it cost a lot more then in the States. I was so angry with this knife, I tracked down the importer and told him I wanted my money back. He said keep the knife and look up a knife in the catalog that was about the same cost and he would make sure I got it delivered to my home. I asked for the Gerber military knife and true to his word, I got it a few days later. Very good customer service to me.
Bucks are classic. I've got a 110, 503 & 373 - hope to order a customized 112 at some point (no pun intended). Appreciate your videos!
My favorite Buck Knives are probably the 110 Folding Hunter, 102 Woodsman, and 224 Frontiersman, if I had my choice of 2,124 for the belt and 110 in my pocket
I love my 119. And I've used many a "trading post special " as a wilderness survival instructor for the boy scouts. Some of those knives I was handed by scouts had such poorly treated Chinese steel I had to use 4 different kids knives to make one bow drill set.

I love bucks steel , I am interested in getting the 124 .right now I carry a custom 110 with box elder burl covers and spine file work .it is definitely my favorite as of right now .edc it everyday in a hitch and timber belt sheath.
I own a Buck Personal, Pathfinder and the Special. Of the three I like the Personal the best. Small and easy to use when cleaning fish, rabbits, squirrels or even deer. Bought it way back in the 80's. I think the steel was better back then. Plus I like the old style sheaths better.

Hey Dan, enjoyed this video. I'm 58 yrs old from the North end of Cajun Country here in South Louisiana. Always been a 5 1/2" folding Old-Timer kinda guy. Cleaned around 200 deer/hogs with the Old-Timer Folder. But, summer 2021, I've been eyeing the Buck Knives, particularly the 119. However, I went cheap & bought the Harbor Freight knock-off of the 119 last week. Nothing wrong with that knife, other than its Made in China. And, for that, I regret buying it. Since last week, my interest has turned to big brother, the 120. I will order the 120 & personilze it before the week is up. And, depending on the 120's quality, I will likely ho ahead & order the real deal in 119 & ditch the China knock-off. Ive never held a Buck knife in my hand til last deer season. A friend of mind brought one to deer camp & he luvs his. It looked & felt solid & was very sharp. So, although I'm a lil late getting in the Buck Family, its better late than never!!!

The 119 was given to me by Uncle. In the mid 80s when I got out of the Army but was still in the Texas NG. That knife when everywhere with when deployed. I was doing field craft before there was field craft. This knife I have allows me to gut, skin, bust through the pelvic bone with out cutting the bladder) and quarter out a deer very effectively. Carrying the 119 in truck I have got the back strap and hindquarters off of deer on the side of the rode in Alabama in the winter. Thanks for posting....

Love buck knives. The 110 is my daily carry. But got 2 119s, a 120, and a 124. The 124 is my favorite. Beautiful knife. Its a beast. But not ridiculously large. Perfect size. Perfect weight. I just wish buck had more options for handles

My father in law has carried and skinned deer with buck knives his entire life I think. I moved on to more bushcraft knives but am a big fan of buck still myself!

I agree with you on several points you. Especially on scandi grind for wood and hallow grind for meat processing. I love the 2 knives you showed but I would also add one more. The 112 for smaller game. Very similar to the 109 just in a smaller package.

I would say for the past 50 years my favorite is the Kalinga model ..You have a good collection of the size i like to work with in the field .. I'm leaning towards the 120 model as my next knife ..I do like the design of the 119 model also ..

I was gifted a Buck Custom Shop Kalinga for my 16th birthday, that was 40 years ago. It's still the most beautiful knife in my collection, and my cherished companion during the deer season. The only knife I desire more is the Buck 904 Sub-Hilt Bowie. There is no more beautiful expression of bladecraft than that sub-hilt!!! Google it!
The 124 is a beast , will last a lifetime of proper use. Would be on my shortlist for my ultimate SHTF belt blade .
That 82 is 425m Stainless. The older one is 440c. I have the same knife dated 1988.

My favorite buck knife is 119! No doubt. I saw a video where the 124 failed to penetrate 1 Caharrt layer and the buck 119 penetrated 3 EASILY.
I do like seeing the difference in opinions and knives you can go all the way back to the stone age and see different shapes and sizes different tribes or people prefer I like the 102 as a EDC blade light and easy to use. Not a bush craft knife but it's the Indian not the arrow that counts in most situations.
Thank you for sharing your favorite sheath knives. I’ve never had a bad knife and I’ve not ever bought a knife that cost over $100. I got a little grief over the first sheath knife I bought. It was a “cheap Chinese” knife I bought back around 1975. It cost me $10.97 then for the two knife set (one has a blade about 12” long the other about 6.5”) they are both hollow grind 440 stainless. Both hold an edge well and haven’t let me down yet. I have used the smaller knife the most. Before you wonder, I like my Buck 124 really well and use it too.

Here is something you should know. Before 1981, the specially heat treated stainless steel used was 440C, and from 1981 to 1992 the company used 425M steel. Now they use 420HC Stainless steel
I had some knives that are better than the other but never one unusable. I have used a lot of cheap knives and a lot of expensive knives, the user controls the knife not the other way around. Thanks for the video
I have never owned a bad knife. Some are better that others but they all their uses. Skill goes a long way when it comes to knives. Using a knife for something other than what it is really intended for does not make it a bad knife. ie a thick blade probably shouldn't be use for slicing small fruit! Thanks Dan!

I’ve had 2 bad knives. Moore Maker and Great Eastern Cutlery which was worst of the two. Pocket knives not sheath knives. Both were almost worthless. You could dull them by looking at them.
@ both of these 2 knives were total junk. Both had beautiful handles but you couldn’t cut with them.
@ no they were both well made knives as far as fitness in the springs with good snap and no wobble. The problem was with the heat treating. That was done poorly or not at all. I want to tell you in case you don’t know there is a knife sharpener by the name of Rada. Very inexpensive and does a fantastic job of sharpening knives. Received mine yesterday and I am very impressed. I sharpened several kitchen knives in just a few minutes. I was skeptical at first but I am glad that I have one. If you don’t already have one get one. You will be amazed at how easy it is to sharpen a knife.

So what makes a "bushcraft" knife? I carry an Esee 4. It may be considered a survival/tactical knife. I use it when bushcrafting and hanging in the woods.
Little knowlage on the Buck Blade Steel: Basic 420: 0.12% Carbon, 13% Chromium | Buck 420HC 0.46 Carbon 13.00 Chromium
Buck uses 420HC for most of their basic knives! And they are known to do the best heat treatment for it on the maket! All 420 type steels are basically stain proof and super tough, they generally struggle against abrasive materials!
They also use steels such as S30V wich have significantly more complex makeups and are supposed to be tougther and hold their edge longer!

My great grandpa is still alive and still has his 119 he’s had forever he still skins deer with it. it’s sad he’s talking about how he’s getting old and he’s gonna pass it down to me, I like that knife but I want him to stay young as long as possible

Well, I have two 119’s. One black handle and one cocoabola handle. My 124 however is my favorite. Even though you weren’t talking folders I always rock my 124 with a 110. Don’t really know why both but why fight it.

Is there any advantage to either buck’s Individual clip point design - I.e is the later model, the wooden handle one, would that be a more robust grind for a tip? Etc thanks for answering.
