I just noticed, the steak falling cuts Tim off before he can answer. With how happy his expression was, he was probably going to say "I've always been proud". That or he was going to ask a question about his big achievement, either way the steak steered the conversation off course.
This scene is all kinds of bittersweet. Flint made steak rain from the sky. To please his dad. Tim takes the time to observe everything. Tim is the first to notice something is not right with the raining food. Tim and Flint had an argument. Flint reflects back and wonders if he had said the proper thing to his son. He loves Flint so much. Only wants what's best for him. May not understand what goes on, but his knew something was not right with the food rain. Then there was that moment in the tackle shop where he felt like he's losing his son. It's like he's wondering if he had said the proper things to Flint, but may not have worded it properly. It's heartbreaking. The dad's just trying his hardest after the mom passed. Don't give up.

Hind sight is always twenty twenty but a shocking amount of plot in movies would never happen if dads just said “Son I’m proud of you and I’ll always be proud, but something ain’t right.”
1:27 I really like that line cause it can go both ways. Metaphorically as in "Aren't you biting off more than you can chew? And literally as in "I really don't think steaks are supposed to be that big", a neat little foreshadowing of the next act of the film.

I love how real their relationship is. Flint's dad is so shut off and in the past since his wife died, in such heavy denial of flint's achievements but he still recognises that something's off with the food. And flint is blinded by his success until he sees that big ass glizzy in the street
Man, Flint’s Dad is so mean …is what I would of said when I watched this a kid. But now? I’m not so sure. Tim recognized that Flint’s pride was getting a bit much (and that it’s not the only thing that’s a bit much). He knew that Flint wanted him to be proud, but as a father, he knew it was his responsibility to point out the faults. Faults that Flint only began to notice AFTER he’d pointed them out. And as for the “I’ll get out of yur way” attitude, that’s not him being a stubborn, old-fart. That’s him being a father and human. Of course he wants to see his son succeed (and of course he has his preferences of how Flint does so) but he recognizes that despite him being Flint’s father, he cannot control Flint. He has to let his son choose how he does things, and if those things don’t include him or his knowledge of fishing, all he can do is step back and hope for the best (not that he’d hope to shove an “I-told-you-so” in Flint’s face, but rather that Flint either learns the lesson on his own or proves him wrong for worrying.) Of course, Tim wanted to be proud of his son, but by taking a moment to look at Flint’s “success,” he knew that Flint wasn’t out of the woods yet and that celebrating now would be too soon. And after returning to the shop to make more chum, he realizes that maybe he could’ve worded it differently. I’m not a father myself, but as someone who grew up with a Dad similar to Flint’s, (one who was also very introverted, stoic, and didn’t always know what to say or how to say it) and after several heart-to-heart conversations through the years, I understand where Tim is coming from, even if he never says so in the movie and I felt like I needed to explain the scene from the Dad’s perspective.
Now that I think about it, Flint probably owns The Roofless because otherwise the restaurant's menu is a little inconsistent because Flint makes food at random based on the requests of other people. Or he had a deal with the owner and Flint gives a schedule on what food weather they're having.
The reason Tim told Flint to not continue producing delicious food is due to it growing and eventually, starting a massacre on the whole planet, not because it isn't delicious or horrible for humans.
He definitely had no idea that it would’ve ended up like that. I think he told flint not to continue his nvention due to that invention being the very thing that could cement his independence from him and the shop, he must’ve felt like the only person he holds close is now slipping away from him, and he might’ve been terrified at the prospect of being left in the dust with his sons success. He’d just rather keep the son he loves close and safe, running the family business that he’s worked to give him, than have Flint be successful but gone from his life.
You know, I feel bad for both Flint and his dad throughout the movie. Flint was basically an outcast who spent time making inventions (that failed) and was relentlessly made fun of for it. Then, when his invention to make food for the town, it failed because of a greedy mayor and the town blamed Flint for it and not the mayor. True, Flint could’ve made some type of fail safe but it was still the mayor’s fault. In terms of Flint’s dad, he’s the kind who has trouble with showing emotion or having a heart to heart. Which explains as to why he uses fishing metaphors to try to get his point across. When he sat at the table, I think he was gonna say that he was proud of him but when he saw the overly big steak, he had a feeling that something was wrong. He’s been a victim of Flint’s experiments that went wrong and probably thought something wrong might happen. Both had gone through a great del of loss when the woman they loved passed. She was the glue that held the family together. I will say this is still a great movie. I do still feel bad for both Flint and his dad though each time I watch it.
@@MumaX992 first he bullied him since elementary school (probably all grades) then flexing the Golden scissor with two women on his dad's shop, that's karma right here why he got this
Flint isn't stupid, just incredibly gullible and naive to peer pressure. I think the reason why he doesn't question the abnormality of the steaks at first, is because everyone seems happy and content which fuels his ego that his invention is a success. With his Ego inflated, he doesn't really listen to his loved ones who are trying to warn him. It's quite sad honestly. Even when he notices these flaws he gives into temptation yet again when the mayor brainwashes him into believe that "bigger is better". Luckily though...Flint makes up for this by shutting do the FLDSMDFR and saving Swallow Falls as well as the world.
I will not said that Flint got an ego but more an insecurity, he spent his whole life being bullied and rejected by everyone and he only wanted to be accepted, he was denying the possibility of his machine would cause troubles because he was afraid of facing an other failure which could ultimately turn all the town against him again. This is illustrated in the next scene with the Mayor, when the mayor manipulated him by warning him that if he turned off the machine, everyone would be dissapointed and would hate him again.
Throughout this entire scene, I am definitely on Tim Lockwood's side. The way Flint becomes very excited to tell his dad the news, the way he becomes so happy when he asked his dad whether he is proud of him or not. All of it are nice until Tim asked if the steaks are getting bigger. From there, Flint becomes very disheartened to hear this. It was at this point that Flint got very angry at his dad for constantly trying to get him to work at his boring tackle shop. Tim eventually felt hurt by this and left the roofless restaurant, not wanting to be yelled at like that. What I would say to Flint, "Hey, don't give me this sad look. What he is trying to tell you is the truth and what do you think he is going to do? Lie to you and then let you do all the wrong. No. And have you ever stopped and just look around you for a moment? Ever since you started working for the mayor, you have become increasingly obsessed with fame and fortune and I don't like this one bit about you."
........I was going to comment how nothing about this would have any logistical sense with fancy wine and that meat falling at terminal velocity, and then it actually started to shatter the glasses. Movie answered my own thoughts. I appreciate that.
You know, the restaurant has a pretty genius idea: buy a place with no roof and charge people for the free food that falls from the sky, all while creating the illusion of exclusivity by limiting who comes in. The only real costs to the restaurant are wages, alcohol, general rent & property obligations, and the occasional property damage. They must be making money hand over fist
Tim was selfish and greedy. He wanted his son to be him which he is not him. There are some things Tim does not understand. Flint is not him. And he’ll never be like him. And he has to accept it and respect his sons decision.

Wait so Plankton was a murderer? If you get what I mean…
3:00 ¨these are big hotdogs...¨ that is one of the most random line i have ever heard in a movie
This scene is like a father, stepmom and son arguing about how the son does things and what he does and the son says “This is making me happy. Something I haven’t seen you two gave a damn about! When are you both going to accept that this is who I am, instead of trying to turn me into someone else who I’m not?!”
And then they say "when you stop using bath salts."
I like how flints dad touches sardines and then touches his face 😂
R.I.P James Cann Tim Lockwood (flint’s dad)
That Dangometer was a smart addition to Flint’s FLDSMDFR communication device
Hind sight is always twenty twenty but a shocking amount of plot in movies would never happen if dads just said “Son I’m proud of you and I’ll always be proud, but something ain’t right.”
1:27 I really like that line cause it can go both ways. Metaphorically as in "Aren't you biting off more than you can chew? Don't you think that endless food from the sky isnt as consequence-free as it sounds?" And literally as in "I really don't think steaks are supposed to be that big", a neat little foreshadowing of the next act of the film.

I love how real their relationship is. Flint's dad is so shut off and in the past since his wife died, in such heavy denial of flint's achievements but he still recognises that something's off with the food. And flint is blinded by his success until he sees that big ass glizzy in the street
I'm surprised that no one got their neck crush by a meteor steak 🥩
I swear all these animated movies trigger my dad issues 😆
Man, Flint’s Dad is so mean
…is what I would of said when I watched this a kid.
Nah touching his face with the same handing you were touching sardines with is wild
2:44 when my dad grounded me for no reason
This movie always makes me hungry
Flint's dad is awesome.
When flint's dad said that line "i guess i will go out of your way then" you can tell that flint was upset
Now that I think about it, Flint probably owns The Roofless because otherwise the restaurant's menu is a little inconsistent because Flint makes food at random based on the requests of other people. Or he had a deal with the owner and Flint gives a schedule on what food weather they're having.
0:24 Says the one who wears a diaper. 😂
0:00 IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE JOKES
He couldn’t have known that .
Honestly if there was steak that big I’d be so happy
Everyone paying attention to the movie. All I’m paying attention to is that big fat juicy steak!
This is also one of my favorite scenes.
not going to lie. my father would act almost exactly like Tim. every single emotion and line.
"This is a big hat."

3:00 thats what she said
not original
Everyone is getting glass in their steaks
Flints dad wasn't great with communication
Happy Summer Day
Tbh I would be pretty worried if a steak the size of my body fell from my sky onto my plate
I'm surprised that did not hurt his head
Flint Lockwood is the new Cat in the Hat!
Dr. Seuss’ biggest movie yet drops in Early March 2026!

😢it is devastating to see that
Tim was selfish and greedy. He wanted his son to be him which he is not him. There are some things Tim does not understand. Flint is not him. And he’ll never be like him. And he has to accept it and respect his sons decision.
