Lyrics:
You got to pay your way in pain
you got to pray your way in shame
I went to the store I was feeling kinda hungry but I didn’t have the money and the shelves were all empty
so I went to the bank to check my checking the man looked at my face, said we don’t have a record
Oh no you thought we had forgotten the show is only getting started the road is feeling like a pothole
Sit down stand up
Head down hands up and
Pay your way in pain
You got to
Pray your way in shame
You know what I want?
What do you want?
You know what I want?
What do you want?
I wanna be loved
So I went to the park just to watch the little children
The mothers saw my heels and they said I wasn’t welcome
So I went back home I was feeling kinda queasy but all the locks were changed and my baby wouldn’t see me
Oh no you put your finger on it
The stove is only getting hotter
The sun is gone to melting
Stand up sit down
Hands up breakdown
You know what I want?
What do you want?
You know what I want?
What do you want?
I wanna be loved

Love the 70's revival going on in pop music lately
In what way is this reminiscent of the 1970s?
@@theonlycaulfield compare to Fame (75)
@@gabaghoul3499 Sure, the way she says "shame" is ripped from Fame, but the song does not sound like 1970s music in general, and I'm saying that as someone who listens to music from the 1970s almost exclusively. The beats in the song do not sound like something from from 1970s at all, and neither do the vocals, aside from the the aforementioned way she says "shame".
@@theonlycaulfield annie herself has said the record is inspired by the New York music scene in the 70s, of course its 70s music
@@puremadness The Bowie take was obvious. Other than that, it sounds nothing like 1970s music, and 1970s music is virtually all I listen to.
all these gorgeous pics oh wow
its 5 or 6 .. lol
@@frank9592 so?
the best artist I've heard in the last few years, collaborate with fka
For real, that would be an amazing collab!
Holy shit, yes please
Omg that would shatter the earth and the sky
Does this mean we’re getting Fast Slow Pay Your Way in Pain?
Wait, I don’t follow, why would this mean that?
@@Jaur-jaur Since Annie has released many versions of her single releases before, I’m just jokingly suggesting that this is an indication of many more “Pay Your Way in Pain” versions. :)
@@OhhNoJuno ah, I thought there was something more that I was missing. Fast Slow Disco absolutely slaps, so here’s to hoping!
That's for sure
Big Gay Pay...Your Way in Pain
queen of seduction, education and pain ❤️
@This Machine Kills Fascists yasss, queen of actors and marries also
I love this song and all, but I'm sort of desperate for another single. MORE! ST! VINCENT!
She’s definitely going to release another this week, so no worries. SNL musical guests usually perform 2 songs, and she’s not just going to play an old song when she has an album coming out! (She’s on SNL April 3rd)
@@Jaur-jaur Omg I forgot she was performing on SNL! I can't wait to see what she does.
St. Vincent just dropped The Melting Of The Sun if you haven’t heard yet :)
@@Jaur-jaur I've listened to it. Its a nice song!
@This Machine Kills Fascists No need to be sorry I just remembered your comment and wanted to share the good news! :)
so excited for SNL, I wonder what the other song will sound like
The Sweet Dreams sample is one of the best uses of a sample.
I could swear it was actually Beethoven (I Love to Listen)!
My dream is a St. Vincent- Kevin Parker collab, and nothing you can say will change my mind.
Iconic song by an iconic queen ❤
David Bowie would approve.
Another iconic song by an iconic artist!
Bowie meets Eurythmics and Talking Heads
Punish me, daddy.
Man, nothing like hearing one of your favorites DELIVER.
She's shopping in brexit england lol. That's why the shelves are empty.
After i watched this video i accidentally turned my bank account upside down. I had to borrow $100 from daddy to get thru.
St. Prince?
at 1:21 it sounds like she’s saying “do you not remember me?”
god is back
Love..Love..Love this song!!! Reminds me a little of Nina Hagen!

Maybe too much of a certain
P.J. Harvey's style, but i love
them both anyway, so...Good
job, Anne !
I feel like the people that like this song don't know about David Bowie's song's time and fame because she's riping off those songs and more I really love her music but I hate this one it's her worst song so far
Heard this song in the final episode of The Dropout and HAD to find it. Love it!
Fiyaaaaa af
I can't be the only one who keeps hearing FAME by David Bowie?
very bowie yes
Hi ST Vincent- Who loves you baby!🙂❤️ I like your stile lady!😎⭐️🔥🤘☀️🕊🦋
The sun has gone to melting you say?
The official music video isn't available for me :(
It's no big deal. Just a bitch in some high heels ran out of the park by some mothers. Just enjoy the music.
SO GOOD! Your Master Class was inspiring to say the least, by the way. Never heard of you before and now I'm a fan. Just like that.
Master Class?
Dark comedy on fire 🔥

I can't afford my cannabis habit on unemployment. I can't drive for uber 'cause i'll get arrested. So i pawned some family jewels. Daddy found out and my ass is in a slinger now.
... :-)... Welp, the famous composer, John Cage, said that we will be punished best for our best attributes....
the song is similar to billie eilish songs.

Deserved more than just 4 still photos of her.
I hear this song everyday in Ross and I’ve never hated a song so much in my life
Wow, so early!

Her music is on the verge of artsy fartsy in the realm of something cool

An amazing musical creation!
Fame by Bowie...
Amazing! Love it.
Extraordinary. 💿💿💿🤍🤍🤍
What's this song about? Tell me your interpretation
To me it's about ch-ch-ch-ch-changes (Bowie vibes). She is different than before in something, maybe her sexuality, but most people don't approve that and avoid her: she feels like she don't fit anywhere, don't belong. She is dislocated and in the end of the day she just wanna be loved.
Wanting the world to be better when you're facing a hard time and growing. The intersection of wants and needs. Love.
People hunger, thirst, and strive, yet fundamentally, love is all people are after. Though, society charges people more pain and shame than others, just to reach that common goal. This song is much more top-down in its storytelling. The experiences she sings about in the verses are unrealistic and absurd, almost like a fever dream. It invites us to criticize the absurdity at an abstract, philosophical level. A bottom-up story would be like James Brown's "Down and Out in New York City." It's tangible, inviting us to empathise with a human being and think concrete.
She is beauty
🇧🇷
Oh yeah
AS FOTOS
Love you ♥
Very nice.
Yeah, Annie Clark singing about poverty doesn't really do it for me. Also the song sounds like Bowie Fame. I liked some of her early albums, though.
They were my thoughts. It’s a great song. Really powerful but the lyrics don’t go hard enough about real suffering. Ironically the real St Vincent really understood poverty and isolation.
Legend.
We are blessed!!

Let's hope the new album is good, because the last one wasn't.
I can't wait, love u
I feel like the only one who feels this album is gonna be boring.
You're not alone. I've been a diehard fan for years, but the last album just bored me. I tried and tried to get into it and it just never clicked.
This song sounds like a Beck throwaway with lazier lyrics.
