  • Episode 3 - First, Vic gives us an update on his 3 gallon pico tank and walks us through his maintenance routine for the small, desktop aquarium tank. Then, Vic decides it is time to add saltwater fish to the new tank. Black Storm Clownfish, Kole Tangs, Yellow Tangs, Bristletooth Tangs, Black Tangs, Pajama Cardinalfish, Chromis.... What does Vic look for when there are so many varieties of fish out there? After that, Vic goes into the World Wide Corals aquaculture farm to grab a few coral frags to get started with.

    WWC and Vic….PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give very detailed info about what happens with those insanely colored frags you added to that very sterile looking tank. IME as soon as I add something like that they go to crap even though all parameters are kept in check. I added 4 very nice SPS frags to my waterbox 100.3 and they are struggling. The aforementioned tank has been set up for some time. All rock and other coral came from a tank that has been set up since 2011 and corals are still struggling. There is something I am missing. Lots of people struggle with these things please help some brothas out!

    Magic Eraser? Will the chemicals kill the crustaceans?

    • @WorldWideCorals
      @WorldWideCorals  Рік тому

      The ones we used are just the plain sponges. We haven’t had an issue and have been using it on most of our tanks for years!

      If you haven't been using a magic eraser to clean glass, you've been missing out.
      The original magic eraser has no chemicals its just a melamine sponge. Search that on Amazon, and find them for a lot cheaper.

      I was looking for someone asking this. My first thought was, "oh no the bleach!"

      Magic Eraser without added cleaners is just a plain Melamine sponge. They work great for scrubbing surfaces and don't require a cleaning agent. It uses friction.

    Magic Erasers straight from the store?. Do you rinse all the chemicals out first?

    • @WorldWideCorals
      @WorldWideCorals  Рік тому +1

      Make sure it's the regular version and not the scented one. In the manufacturing process, the chemicals are bound to our knowledge. We haven't seen any negative effects by using this product.

    as much as i love WWC.. tell Vic his coral prices are absolutely out of control. LFS like WWC and Top Shelf Aq set the tone for the entire hobby because of how much influence they have and its really killing the hobby. Seems like the money is more important than the animals unfortunately. Kids who want to get into this hobby just cant because of the prices.. its sad and in the long run its going to hurt this amazing hobby.

      We have an inexpensive coral section in our stores and an overstock coral section on our website as well as ebay, coral club, and many sales we run throughout the year for those looking to buy inexpensive corals. The more rare corals are going to be higher priced its just simple supply and demand. You have to factor in the cost to attain the rarer corals and then aquaculture them slowly, plus the overhead of our facilities and 50+ employees. Operating a saltwater store at this high of level is extremely costly and we reinvest almost everything back into growing our ability to aquaculture more corals.

      I drove almost 2 hours to see the store and get some coral. Overall I was pretty disappointed mostly because of pricing . The store was nice and the employees seemed helpful enough but looking for a couple zoa frags and to find them at twice if not more than my LFS in the Tampa/Sarasota area.

      @@ThePatrickm116 don’t get me wrong. WWC is one of the best to ever do it. But all of these top brand stores have gotten WAY out of control with prices. There is no reason whatsoever why any type of coral should be 900$ 1000$ 2000$… it’s out of control. And then that sets the tone through the entire hobby. I jus wish people were more concerned about the animals rather than money. The passion for this hobby is not where it used to be unfortunately.

      @@Botzz28 You do realize we ourselves buy a coral or even frag for $900, $1000, $2000 sometimes right? Supply and demand is what drives the prices, just like any industry. If a coral doesn't sell at a certain price, the price is reduced until it sells regularly at that price. If a coral is selling out of control at a cheap price the price is raised. Its simple economics, nothing shady about it.

    • @Botzz28
      @Botzz28 Рік тому

      @@WorldWideCorals really? Come on. Your going to argue with me that prices of coral in the hobby today are not astronomically stupidly expensive? I will say your prices are much much better than someone like top shelf aquatics. Top shelf jus completely takes advantage of the community with their prices. It’s extremely hard for an average kid to get into our hobby these days because of the prices. It prevents people from joining one of the best hobbies in the world. There are 1 inch frags going for hundreds and thousands of dollars. It’s just mind blowing. If we can learn and take something from the great Jake Adams, one of the most influential reefers in the community, it should be his passion that he had for the animals. This hobby has lost sight of its passion and maybe one day we can bring it back.
