    Hello Finn , in Connection of the oil feeding doors in the sump of the Engine you can avoid Breaking these plastic knobs by cutting them off and drill small holes where the knobs where , now you take Four strips of Metal 2 mm thick and 15 mm wide and Long enough to Cover the distance of length of the doors , now copy the holes in the strips and mount each door with suiting screws rings and Self securing nuts.
    Voila no more plastic contamination in your oil system!!

    • @ManinaGarage
      @ManinaGarage  3 роки тому

      Hello Arnold, I like the sound of that! Thank you. On the X-51 baffle the metal doors have a spring on them to allow the doors to swing one way, would these strips of metal be able to mimic that? There is literally a spare baffle in my garage, it could be cool to try out your idea? Thank you for watching 🤘😎

    I have enjoyed your videos. If you are looking for additional content, it would be very interesting to see how TunerRS and other handle the oil flow, oil pressure stability and oil starvation. Your quick reference to the "pump" system TunerRS is using was enough to get anybody thinking. Nice work.

    • @ManinaGarage
      @ManinaGarage  3 роки тому +1

      I agree, it's one thing to bolt on a shiny new toy but what does that do to the rest of the system? These videos are scratching the surface of what TuneRS are doing. Unlike your average parts store they are developing and testing these parts on their own race cars, they have an international reputation for winning endurance races (Le Man/Sebring/Daytona). I know that they are torture testing and stripping their engines/test mules on a regular basis to measure wear, test redesigns etc. Once this car is finished I will revisit some of these aftermarket products based on all the feedback subscribers like you have given me. Thank you for watching 🤘😎

    Man in a Garage meets Project Farm...I like it! I've been a pretty loyal Mobil1 0w40 guy since the early 80's and have no regrets. I've heard some say the "boutique" oils are the ticket but color me skeptical. I've been testing my oil at every change for some 10 years and am seeing virtually no wear. Well done, Finn!

    • @DSC800
      @DSC800 3 роки тому +2

      Same here with M1, now using 5w50 as recommended by Porsche. It amazes me how quickly those on the forums flock to the hyped "boutique" oil that is actually a Mobil base oil. A little more of this additive, a little less of that, and charge $14/qt. Oh, and the same guy shilling the stuff does oil analysis, out of his garage, for double price.

    • @ManinaGarage
      @ManinaGarage  3 роки тому

      For the average Joe, How are we supposed to be able to tell any difference between these oils? We have to rely on what we can learn about them and much of that is advertising based. I thought Mobil 1 was a premium Oil but apparently its just "Decent" 🤣😂. Thank you for watching 🤘😎

    • @ManinaGarage
      @ManinaGarage  3 роки тому

      Good to know, I wonder how much difference the additives make to the performance and the production price? Could a $5 quart of M1 with a $3 of additives be worth $15/qt in the "Racing Oil" market.... Thank you for watching 🤘😎

    • @DSC800
      @DSC800 3 роки тому

      @@ManinaGarage Mobil 1, being the biggest, they are the target, but I expect any top tier oil is equally as good. I default to Mobil because it is a Porsche approved oil (fwiw), has been for decades and the cost is reasonable. You know what they say, discussing motor oil is like discussing religion, etc.

    • @DSC800
      @DSC800 3 роки тому +1

      @@ManinaGarage For Racing Oil, these have additives and viscosity for higher temps and shorter change intervals, also with levels of zddp that can damage cats. This and more make them not suitable for day to day. Discussing further is beyond my pay grade :).

    Apparently the 997 oil returns in the sump are specifically orientated so that the oil is squirted onto the walls of the sump and this process removes the aeration in the oil that you saw in your experiment, so they are actually a very worthwhile upgrade over the 996 version.

    Hey thanks Finn!
    I've been having a mental debate about what to do with oiling - mine is a stock 3.6 pan and it gets frothy and loses pressure in long corners when I track it. The X51 kit is unobtanium but lots of good aftermarket bits like the baffle and the front scavenge tubes. The deep sump is also tempting with the 997 pickups. Something to keep me busy over the winter, as long as I don't blow it up on the track in the next month or so! This video was super helpful.
    Was also a good reminder that with a mere oil change, you can drop the sump and go nuts in there with whatever you pick up. If you happen to run the 997 parts I'll be watching carefully, but first can't wait to see this on its maiden voyage - so close!!!

    • @miketdavies

      PS that 930 Speedster... OMG what a dream. The new ones aren't that interesting to me, too many electronics and nannies in the way! Last great analog 911 is parked in your tiny garage. The G50 gearbox in that car is worth more than two 996 Carreras these days. Friend had an Ultima with an LS7 mated with a G50 - amazing scary beast.

    • @ManinaGarage
      @ManinaGarage  3 роки тому

      The 930 Speedster was really fun looking, it was tempting to hop in it and make engine noises 🤓. Some of those Ultima builds are insane, very pretty looking. 🤘👷🏾‍♀️🏎

    • @ManinaGarage

      A subscriber suggested that I should install a clear sump plate on the engine with a camera to see whats going on in there..... That might be a stretch for my production budget 😅. How much pressure drop do you see? Is it the same for a left hander as for a right hander? The X-51 Baffle from EBS is on my radar simply because the baffle this car came with displayed damage that I suspect would not/could not happen to a metal version. Thank you for watching 🤘😎

    Great video!!! On my build my oil level sensor stopped working and it was so horrible to change it out once the engine was back in. I recommend to change it out of possible so you don’t have any issues like me

    • @ManinaGarage
      @ManinaGarage  3 роки тому

      You are raising a concern that I have about ALL the sensors. The temptation is to replace everything with new, I am trying to thread the needle between budget build and collector car restoration. It will be a bummer if I put it all back together and find something amiss. Mentally I am prepared to remove and reinstall the engine again if thats what it takes. Thank you for watching 🤘😎

    Nice work Finn! I'm learning a lot about these engines watching your videos. From my understanding a main aggravator to bore-scoring is having leaky or boogerd up fuel injectors. (Fuel washes away oil, and can potentially act as a solvent to the piston skirt coating). Do you have plans to get new injectors or have yours bench tested?

    • @ManinaGarage
      @ManinaGarage  3 роки тому

      Yes, very good point. My intention is to send the injectors to www.witchhunter.com/ to have them refreshed and output tested. Do you have any suggestions for a better place? Thank you for watching 🤘😎

      @@ManinaGarage I'm trying to decide on whether or not to replace my injectors right now. I have 68k on my 997 and am having no issues whatsoever concerning injectors, but I did see that "Flat 6 Innov." video where Jake say to replace them every 60k (with new) whether you think you need to or not. It seems like overkill, but with these engine's proclivity to bore scoring, I take his point. It is hard to know what to do!
