Zamboanga is the only CHAVACANO speaking city in the Philippines... Chavacano is a broken spanish language.... Enjoy the warmth and generousity of the people... I love Zamboanga City... My wife lives there and somehow it hurts to see all the pictures and not be able to be there at the moment. I'll be back in 4 months. Carinderia is a small eatery in the Philippines serving home cooked dishes. When you were pointing at each dishes, that’s exactly how you do it that’s why it’s served in “turo-turo” (point) style. However, The word carinderia came from the word “kari” which is a Tagalog term for curry.😊 enjoy Zamboanga😊

In the early period hindi pa dumating ang mga Spaniol as Zamboangan a small fishing village, every market day fisherfolks dock at the fishing village carrying a bambo pole or bakawan which served as samboang a post to tie its outrigger boat. When the spaniards arrived to the place they twisted the word zamboangan to zamboanga.

22:45 Yes, there are some areas who like spicy.. Bicol region in know for that, but also noticed that it is spicy in the areas where they speak Chavacano - like Zamboanga but also Cavite near Manila. I like spicy food also and always hope to find some spicy dishes

It's a small city in terms of infrastructure, but in terms of land area, zamboanga city is huge.. You can fit two metro manilas inside zamboanga city and still have land to spare.
The language you mistook for Spanish was the Filipino dialect, Chavacano. It is a beautiful derivation from Spanish. Someone has probably said this below, but so it goes.
That black soup is the traditional dish of the tausug, it is a beef stew with burnt coconut on it that why it's color black and the original taste of it is beefy, spicy yet smooth. It's name is tiyula itum. Tiyula-stew/soup while itum-black.
The Jardin De Lavinia hotel is just near my family's house. . Those De La.peña Bros who sang here their houses are just a bit near from my family' home..wow. i miss my place watching from Kuwait..

Myer, I am from Zamboanga City. I suggest if you could visit Barangay LaPaz, Sta. Cruz Island, 11 islands, Merloquet Falls, Pasonanca, Abong Abong, etc.
Zamboanga City is an awesome place. My wife originated from there, during the past 5yrs I had been there over 8 times, friendly people throughout the city and completely safe there. My only bad experience was with the Manila airport taxi.
Zamboanga City may not be as highly urbanized city compared to manila, Cebu, Davao, etc but in terms of land area, Zamboanga City is number 4. Even bigger than most cities in metro manila, Manila included.

there are nicest hotels around the City. There's one just across the airport - the Garden Orchid Hotel and along Camins Avenue.
