I have watched your videos for some time now and these two still tug at my heart. I absolutely hate the fact they both live alone without a troop. I believe you have said before at one time they did try to introduce these two but for some reason it did not work out. Seems like if they were given more time that it could have. I wonder with them being older if they could try again and maybe just maybe they could tolerate it. I still don’t understand why they don’t put other small animals in there enclosure to bring them some type of company. Rola and her worms that still amazes me. I do appreciate all your effort video taping these beautiful animals I know you care deeply about their well being and it has to be hard not to be able to change more for them. Your efforts are appreciated. One more question that really bothers me is this the zoo that owns Gentaro?
Thank you, Karen, for sharing your honest thoughts. You took the words right out of my mouth. As jujubegold answered for me, yes, Chiba Zoo owns 6 gorillas in Japan, including Gentaro. The official stance of the zoo is that they are willing to find a companion for Monta, but I don't think they are serious. There is no evidence that they are trying. The keepers think Monta and Rola are too old to cope with living with a companion, which I think is ridiculous. Gorillas are highly social beings. They shouldn't be alone unless they are too ill or something. The zoo should seek a solution by maybe introducing a small animal to their enclosure. That would stimulate them and enrich their monotonous daily life. The first, the zoo should provide keepers an opportunity to get some updated welfare education. But I think this zoo faces a big issue of lack of manpower. This explains why it is the way it is.
@@ZoosForConservation thank you for your response and caring. The whole situation breaks my heart and to know they own 6 other gorillas which includes Gentaro breaks my heart even more. You are witnessing silverbacks growing up in a family environment and they are very intelligent animals them to realize they are going to be in a place who do not have the means to care for them is totally unacceptable. From my understanding Japan does not recognize any conservation programs from animals and their future. I pray they see the light and start working with other zoos in other countries to give them the life they deserve. They are responsible for their well being and they took it on when these gorillas were born in their zoos and then to basically toss them away to a life of isolation is so unfair. I could go on and on but nothing will matter. Again I appreciate you and the awareness you give to your viewers
I love the way their enclosure looks now. Beautiful trees and plants for them to eat. At first, Monta didn’t know what to think but Rola looked and started to eat. 🥰❤️❤️
I know I can not but I would love to able to actually go in their enclosure and spend time with them,, I have no idea what to do buttttttt these two just ripped my heart out 😢😢😢
Monta is a beautiful silverback, such a shame he and Rola didn't get along. I wonder if they tried again things would be different? People mellow, maybe gorillas too...
Thank you, Anne, for sharing your thoughts. Monta is such a beautiful and handsome silverback. It's so pity that the zoo has stopped trying. I also think the zoo could try once more to see if they can cope with each other since they are aged now.
She does look a little smaller to me. It might be their diet and being alone all the time. The Haoko’s and Shabani’s have an abundance of food and they look good. Annie can look skinny but I think she might be a little nervous. Nene is a smaller gorilla anyways. The Momotaro’s all look well fed too but they are very athletic swinging from their climbing structure. But Rola does look a lot smaller especially around her waist area!
She does seem to be very skinny, doesn't she? I hope the zoo examines her health at some point in the near future. She used to have something similar to an eating disorder. She was accustomed to eating humans' food because of her upbringing. She was raised at a vet's house. But the zoos like Ueno and Chiba kind of succeeded in fixing such eating habits to more natural ones. Thank you for watching.

Yes I believe they do own Gentaro
@@jujubegoldI thought so and that’s horrible. I don’t want his faint the same as Monta and Rola. Something has to change !

Monta is so handsome. 🖤
Thank you, Just Breathe! Yes, Monta is gorgeous.

Humans also become stubborn with age
Why dose Rola looks so anorexic compared to other elderly female gorillas around her age? Just curious.

@ Poor Rola. I always forget about her upbringing. Time to rewatch your videos! Thanks for that information!
