  • Welcome to my channel!
In my fifth flight report I’m taking you on my flight to Houston, but first we need to get through the lines at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Schiphol has been in the news internationally for its problems at security causing extremely long lines reaching all the way to the outside of the airport. This caused hundreds of people to miss their flights as waiting times got up to 6 hours on some days!
After arriving in Houston we connected on a flight to Los Angeles, that flight report is coming soon!
    Our story:
We weren’t as lucky either, we stood in line for 1.5 hour at check-in as almost all United flights from AMS departed around the same time. By the time we were finally checked in, lines for security reached all the way through the terminal and as we finally reached the stairs to go up to security our line was extended and sent outside of Departures 3/4. When we got inside again we were sent to departures 1/2 where we stood in line for another 1.5 hour. As we got through security in the end, the line for passport control, which is in departures 2, reached all the way to departures 1 and wasn’t moving at all. As I used to work at AMS I knew there’s another passport control filter between the Schengen and Non-Schengen transfer area and I wanted to go and take a look there to see if the line was shorter. Not much later a staff member came to tell the line to follow him if your flight departed between now and an hour. He brought us to that Schengen/Non-Schengen filter where there wasn’t even a line. After that we made our way to the furthest pier of them all, the G-pier, and were the last few passengers to board! Some seats remained open as the flight was fully booked so I fear that there were people who were even less lucky.
    More information:
    Airline: United Airlines
Aircraft: Boeing 777-234er (23.10 years old)
    Registration: N78001
Flight: Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) - Houston George Bush Intercontinental (IAH)
    Date: July 16th 2022
    Seat number: 46L
    Flight rating:
    Seat: ★ ★ ★ ★

    Amsterdam Airport: ★ ★ ★
    Houston IAH Airport: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
    Overall score: ★ ★ ★ ★
    - Seat: the seat was comfortable and legroom was good as well. Not 5 stars because it could’ve been cleaner, for example the chewing gum that was stuck between the safety card and the inflight magazine.
    - In flight entertainment: What I loved about the IFE was how informative it was. Upon boarding it had a welcome screen which showed you what to expect on this flight and at the end of the flight it gave you a warning that the flight wasn’t long enough anymore to finish certain movies. Lots of choice between music, movies, series, games etc. Although some movies didn’t have Dutch or any subtitles at all. Luckily this isn’t as much as a problem for me. The sound quality could’ve been better.
    - Food: The food was good, it was tasty. The salad served with the first meal tasted very much like it came straight from the freezer. It was ice cold, watery and tasted like frozen food. Throughout the flight snacks were available to take from the galley, which is a great addition from airlines in my opinion. The pre-landing snack (panini) was good but could’ve been better.
    - Crew: crew was really nice and helpful. Went to have a talk with them and they were really enthusiastic.
    - Amsterdam Airport: I think it speaks for itself why I rated them lower as usual. Despite of that I know what the airport is usually like so that’s why they got three stars.
    - Houston IAH Airport: Great airport. Lines at immigration weren’t that long, signage to find the transfer baggage belt was clear but the process of clearing your baggage could’ve been clearer. The departures area was nice too, good stores and restaurants and the gate was easy to find.

great flight. How was the recline and customer service on UNited. Did you check in a bag? Were they allowing people to gate check baggage at check in

Thanks! The recline and customer service both were good. We did check bags. I’m not sure about United, but as far as I know at Schiphol Airport it’s always possible to gate check your hand luggage. It’s not needed though as it’s a long haul flight, so there’s enough space.
