Here's a counter theory (long term) Gene Haas is trying to get the team to be both self-sufficient and more competitive to try to sell it at a high, potentially to toyota itself in 2028-2030+
This is refreshing. I've been super behind Haas since Ayao stepped into the leadership role and seriously I can't wait to see all of the developments between company, tech, and drivers plays out over this season. While all eyes have been on Red in Maranello my eyes have stayed keenly on Red and Black. I just hope that Occon doesn't get too heady about things and make it a needlessly uphill battle for Ollie...
I’ve been loving Haas, but disappointed when Hulk and Kmag left. Not a big fan of Ocon, but hopefully that will change. Your excitement for them makes me excited too. 🎉
Ocon is as good if not better than KMag. Hulk was already gone. I just hope he doesn’t fight with Bearman and ruin him. This is looking like a good move by both Toyota & HAAS.
Alpine becomes Hitech TGR and VCARB becomes Prema RB Ford. Toyota won’t have their own team during the next regulations. They’ll be a supplier and learn. Hightech could just come in and use whatever engine is available. Not RB/Ford - they don’t have the capacity yet or proof that their engine will be any good.
Very clear that Gunther was a bit of a cult of personality. Ayo has helped bring in proper sponsorship and make the improvements necessary to drive Haas forward. Very interesting to watch them moving forward.

Lewis has also played the teammate crushing game politically since DAY ONE taking over McLaren and pushing Alonso out (effectively), making rosberg's fight hell, keeping Bottas down and making his fans suspect Russel actively sabotaging him, etc. etc. Leclerc hasn't had to deal with not being the team's golden boy yet, and Ferrari has a history of tossing out their lead drivers once a new shiny toy comes along (ask Kimi, Massa, Alonso, Vettel, etc. even Schumacher / Carlos to an extent) We essentially have an absurdly expensive political juggernaut vs Leclerc who still hasn't won a championship, and they've already been bending over backwards and designing the car for Lewis, letting Lewis live in Enzo's house (which no driver since Michael has done) etc. I don't doubt that leclerc can fight. I doubt the team will let him. Unless he massacres Lewis embarrassingly badly out the GATE, he will not be favored at all, and even then, I expect it would take a season or two of Lewis being blatantly not at his level for Leclerc to have the advantage inside the team again. I could just be dooming though :(

Ayao was parachuted into Hass he could not have been so successful without the rock solid foundation that Guenther provided, if the team had not been in good shape thanks to Guenther Ayao would not have appeared so successful. Having said that I am hoping they will continue to climb the rankings with Ayao at the helm. As an aside don’t forget that Guenther has also helped in a big way bringing a bigger audience to F1 and that benefits all the teams. Thank you Guenther for everything and good luck to Ayao and Hass in the future.
Good to see a little HAAS love, They are my favorite and it's been a tough watch at times, if they got onto the broadcast or not. Gene being able to keep his hoard is a good thing
It's not like HAAS would have to search far for an ex-F1 driver that wants/needs a seat.. the fact there are so few seats means they are spoiled for choice.. maybe not the best drivers in top condition but good enough to still be world-class? 100%.
You seem to forget that G.M aren't just an American company with all the brands that come in under that massive umbrella. Brands like Opel, Vauxhall, Chevrolet, Pontiac and Oldsmobile are all G.M products and not long ago even brands such as Hummer, Saab and even Lotus Cars was part G.M if not wholly owned or managed. Oh and I forgot one of the biggest makers in the southern hemisphere, G.M.H Holden for short before they closed their doors fully.
I'm another Guenther fan and give him lots of credit for what he did. Sadly the ever present issue I think that HAAS as an organization has had has been securing good sponsorship deals. I get that Gene wanted his name on the car for his own business but I really wonder how the team might have progressed if they'd had some external revenue and not had to rely so heavily on "the boss" to foot the bill. The fact that Gene no longer has to open up his own wallet for the team is pretty telling and I think brings a whole new dynamic to them.
@@bzilla-d4iI believe it, they have not innovated their vehicles in 20 years. You can buy a new Prius and get an extra 10 ish mpg more than the first gen that is over 20 years old. And 10 mpg is rounding up from the actual amount
@MC--- they spent $4 billion in 7 years during their time in F1 which is nearly the entire field combined and still couldn't get a win. They tried to buy success and fell flat on their asses and caused the downfall of Williams and the death of Jordan with their underpowered engines that Eddie paid top dollar for, Jordan was better off with the Peugeot's, Honda's and Ford engines, they blew up but at least it got them on the podium. With Toyota it was just pure mediocrity..
Glad to see Haas doing so well. I miss Guenther, but I like his former team's success even more. I hope Williams has a great 2025 season, too. McLaren is my favorite team, but I will always root for the underdogs, too. And I'm hoping against hope that Aston gives Alonso a great car to drive. How different from an official F1 simulator from the best you can buy commercially?
What seems to be forgotten is that in recent years Haas had a very fast car (relatively) but they were unable to perform in races as they used the Ferrari back end (and front suspension possibly?) and suffered from the same problems Ferrari had in races, they heated up their tyres really quickly for qualifying, great, but that meant they ate up their tyres in the actual races meaning they ended up going backwards.
Ever since DTS I realized that Gunther was what was holding Haas down (besides Schumacher's and Mazepin's performances). He should have focused his time with the team instead of being the face of a fictional documentary.
Well this is a bit of a surprise and has me eating humble pie, even if it is just in the comfort of my own home. I was completely certain that Haas would disappear or be eaten up/sold off. The fact they are financially viable without subsidy from Gene took me by surprise. It would seem that their place is the sport is secure at least in the medium term.
The future PU market is just as exciting as the driver changes for this year. My only reservation is Toyota like Honda do have a long history of dipping their toes in to F1 then leaving to focus on their other programs. I am sure Ferrari will be looking for a new customer team and I can only think of one team they might be able to woo in to bunging a Ferrari PU in the back of their car. My understanding is HAAS has been using the Ferrari sim rig but using Ferrari's older computer and control hardware from 2 seasons ago and that hardware is in a separate room from Ferrari's.
IMO. Haas is far worse than Papa Stroll could ever be. How long has Gene Haas been doing this for now? And what would seem in some people’s eye that every stroke of the pen is a dagger to the Haas heart. What does Haas really bring to F1. Certainly not engineering as ALMOST everything is brought. They take up a position on the (current) 10 team roster and what do they give in return. At least Papa has gone all in. It’s about time F1 management address Haas’ plight. Personally F1 should flex their muscle and boot them and give that franchise to a F2 team who has genuine ambitions or have Toyota take complete ownership. Haas this; Haas that. With several good drivers in their history it’s always been a stooge refusing to pay the bills. Again - Papa Stroll at least puts his hand up to pay the bills. Again Haas’ time in the F1 sport should be forced out by F1 Go Cadillac. F1 don’t need his money.! F1 is an elite sport and Haas is no way on the same level as Ferrari. They guaranteed shouldn’t be mentioned in the next breath.
Will say this. Toyota tried and it was about as effective as stopping a train with your face😅😅 However I will say that the capacity for them to have learn lessons from that is there so, I'm not going to completely rule them out
Doesn’t purchasing the max amount of parts from Ferrari, as Haas does, help them stay beneath the cost cap? I don’t forsee them getting into the business of creating the entire car for a good while yet.

It's not like HAAS would have to search far for an ex-F1 driver that wants/needs a seat.. the fact there are so few seats means they are spoiled for choice.. maybe not the best drivers in top condition but good enough to still be world-class? 100%.
IS THAT GLOCK????
So nothing changed but Komatsu gets way better sponsor deals than Steiner but the problem isn't Steiner it's Gene Haas? How?
Not me watching this while playing F1 World Grand Prix on Dreamcast
Good game. Good game.
If Bearman performs great in the Haas, Ferrari will now have a dilemma who to replace. Haas is pretty much the Toyota F1 by this time.
No they don’t. Lewis will retire in a few years anyway, that’s perfect timing for Ollie.
In what way, also Toyota have the label of the worst manufacturer in F1 for a reason.
Soon as Guenther leaves the team started doing better shows it’s all about management, me personally I’m shocked he lasted that long with the team.
And yet they hit q3 so many times last year.
They're going to do it a lot more now
Glad to see Haas doing so well.
Great video as always
Interesting info about haas, this team is looking far from the past years trouble.
Buy Haas Stock now
Ever since DTS I realized that Gunther was what was holding Haas down (besides Schumacher's and Mazepin's performances). He should have focused his time with the team instead of being the face of a fictional documentary.
@LawVS, Is it me, or is the audio not matching the video?
It is giving me English dubbing of foreign movie vibes.
i like haas the team but you couldn’t pay me to like gene haas
babe wake up LawVs just dropped new video
The Big 3 American manufacturers... Ford, GM, Toyota...
We dont need to talk about Chrysler anymore. RIP
ngl I never thought Gene ever put money in.
Ocon is going to destroy that team
Maybe Ferrari will by Alfa TauApp Racing Rosso.
I think he should still spend money. Set the foundations for a team that can try to compete for podiums
Is that some sort of top gear chart behind you?
Nope. Those are my patrons.
the Haas situation is insane
In a good way.
Surely Bearman leaving to go to Ferrari would only mean they become an interesting stop for drivers to offer their services, right?
When it comes to manucturers entering F1, they also leave quickly, remember 2008? Williams, Ferrari & McLaren toughed it out to their credit.
If you ever have the desire to make a "trip down memory lane" video, please consider telling us all you know about Minardi.
#HAAS has an American owner , but I dont really consider it an American team , yet .🤘🏻🏁
It's going the right way though, yeah?
Is that Glock?!
Gene HAAS now has himself a self $ generating advertising platform, through F1. Good luck HAAS 😊
Law we here in NASCAR land call em "cheating Yoder's" goes back to when they tried to add jetfuel to their cars in Daytona
I'm happy for HAAS... I have a feeling Max would be the kind of driver that would tell Ferrari NO THANKS.
Yes but I sense Toyota are much more measured these days
Toyota a long history? A single foray for a few seasons is not a long history in my opinion.
Again Haas’ time in the F1 sport should be forced out by F1
Go Cadillac.
F1 don’t need his money.!
F1 is an elite sport and Haas is no way on the same level as Ferrari.
They guaranteed shouldn’t be mentioned in the next breath.
Will say this.
Toyota tried and it was about as effective as stopping a train with your face😅😅
However I will say that the capacity for them to have learn lessons from that is there so, I'm not going to completely rule them out
Proud day to be a Haas fan
Both of you must be feeling pretty good right about now.
Haas was never a punch line, their incompetent drivers were.
Doesn’t purchasing the max amount of parts from Ferrari, as Haas does, help them stay beneath the cost cap? I don’t forsee them getting into the business of creating the entire car for a good while yet.
I love you law. But please don’t sink to click bait titles and cliche words in capitals. You’re better than that.
Im still not sure creating parts in house will work. It was not long ago they worried about parts because they took too long to make.
15:33 Are you saying that *you* are the team's founder?
No. That Gene is happy as Larry. I'm a Larry.
I can assure you, most of us Americans don’t root for Haas as America’s team.
Toyota can likely do what they want as they are mot signatories to any F1 agreements.
Haas to be the biggest news
We didn't get Andretti F1, but Haas has now spent/is gonna spend 4 years across 2 regulations just sand bagging... make it nake sense.
Toyota has plenty of hybrid racing experience in WEC.
That’s not a bombshell - it’s expected
Hang on, I think I hear something in me shed. It better not be an F1-reporter!
Are you leg locked on that ladder Laws? 🤨🤪
I love a Glock meme, but he really makes me miss Class 1 DTM.
WE WERE WRONG? NO, YOU WERE WRONG! Gene is a very successful business man, he knows wtf hes doing. Better than you, I or even Steiner.
