Note that Ford specifically committed to an LMDh entry, _not_ LMh. This means they're outright required to use one of the specified chassis manufacturers, so an RB-17-derived chassis is right out.
I think what’s happened with the Max Verstappen conversation is that all of the News & Media outlets have taken Max’ words on retirement out of context way too much and skewed the narrative SUCCESSFULLY to make any F1 fan doubt Max’s loyalty towards Red Bull and the people he’s build up relationships with for 10+ years now. I fully believe Max will stay with Red Bull until 2028 and possibly beyond. I don’t believe for a second that he’ll retire any time soon either. As a Dutch person myself I can attest to Dutch directness and sobriety is often misunderstood and misconstrued, we often speak about possibilities but that’s to be open-minded towards ideas, I wouldn’t take any of that with too much weight until there is actual direct confirmation from the most relevant sources.
I never really believed he would actually do it UNLESS Red Bull really fell off a cliff or the 2026 car was not to his liking in general. However, with Ford getting into WEC and most likely with Red Bull support, this could be a great way to further ensure that Max builds on his ties.
I, as a Dutch person myself, thank you for this eloquent summary! I wanted to post something quite the same, but my English is not that great, so thank you again!
Yes, as a Dutch person I always read his comments as "it is an option available to me that depends on the circumstances" or something, you know? It could happen, it could also very well not. He's not committed to retiring or staying post 2028. And he's not actively chasing Hamilton's record, but if he actually sticks around with Red Bull until 2028 and wins all WDC's somehow, he'll be one season away from 8 titles. If that happens, I wouldn't bet against him signing a one year contract.
Max is launching is own GT3 team later this year with a crossover driver from Sim to real life. He recently said in an interview that he enjoyed it a lot to help these drivers adjust to real life racing and he really sees himself in a managerial role in the future. The possibility of him taking a break from F1 is pretty realistic.
Max is slowly becoming a Ford man instead of a Honda man is kind of weird to think about but im kinda happy as well (not dissing Honda, my fav Japanese manufacturer)
If Ford decides to join hypercar with the RB-17 they would no longer be going for the LMDh regulations, since those cars HAVE to have one of the 4 available chassis while the more bespoke LMH (LeMans Hypercar) cars can be a completely different creation like the Aston Martin Valkyrie. Both types of hypercars race at the same events but the LMDh cars have more structured rules at the benefit of being cheaper to produce
Heyhey! Hi from Latvia. Used to watch F1 as a kid, from 1997 to 2007 and now I'm returning to the sport as a very oldschool Feraarri fan with almost no knowledge of what happened since I left. So, I just wanted to say thank you - also from a professional perspective as I'm a journalist, covering the ongoing war - for your informative channel and everything that you do. You've been great help when it comes to me, catching up! Thank You!
Im a really big fan of champions moving to adjacent series. I always hope that when a champion (or even anyone whos been on the grid) retires from f1, they will go to an indy car, nascar, FE and WEC etc.
They announced their car is an LMDH. They don't need to announce who their chassis supplier is gonna be. It is going to be one of the four LMDH suppliers.
I've been gravitating to endurance racing more and more with IMSA and WEC. It's more interesting to watch with multiple classes and there is way less off the track drama. I'd be all for more F1 drivers making the jump.
I remember him being interviewed about his celebrations after his first win. He just shrugged and said he was babysitting for his manager. He doesn't strike me as being anything other than a homebody outside of racing, and good luck to him for that. 😊
I could see Ford convincing Max to be their ace to drive in the world's biggest motor races: Daytona 24 Hour, Daytona 500, Bathurst 1,000, Le Mans, hell, he could possibly run Dakar and Baja, although Indy would be difficult because Ford isn't in Indycar (even though Roger Penske, who owns Indycar, runs Fords in NASCAR)
You might wanna look up the difference between LMH and LMDh because they are completely things. And Ford is joining WEC as a LMDh manufacturer, meaning they will be using a spec hybrid system and buy the chassis from either Oreca, Dallara, Ligier or Multimatic. Multimatic being the likeliest as they are partnered with Ford to bulld the Mustang GT3.
Yep. Toyota, Ferrari, Peugeot and Aston Martin are LMH cars with their own bespoke stuff. No chance in adapting the RB17. That leaves Red Bull a few aerodynamic body panels to make lol
Chip Ganassi is will going to be the Factory Ford team again. He left being the Caddy factory team, sold his NASCAR team, and running 5 IndyCars last year. It has to be a huge thing in the works to leave those efforts behind. It will likely be a Multimatic with a body looking like a Ford GT.
They likely are going to use a Multimatic lmp2 chassis since they did announce they were going to enter under the LMDH regs rather than the LMH. Due to this they are likely going to use their partnership with Multimatic for their chassis.
As much as I'd love to see Ford/Red Bull build their own chassis, because they most undoubtedly plan on racing IMSA GTP in the States, they will have to go with one of the 4 spec chassis of LMDh. With their history and ties with Multimatic, that's probably where they'd end up.
They don't have to build a LMDh to race in IMSA. IMSA allows LMHs to compete, Ford, like everyone else, are picking LMDh because it's the cheaper formula.
Really? I've seen so much footage of Christian Horner and I don't hear even a hint of it in Law's impersonation. Christian is much quieter and more reserved when he speaks and he while he has said "give it a go", he doesn't say it with anywhere near the level of enthusiasm as Law. I find it more annoying than anything.
I said last season that Max should be driving an Andretti Red Bull Acura at Daytona and Le Mans. The teams, obviously, have done a little bit of musical chairs since.
I think that with WEC still under FIA control there is still IMSA that he could race in and with long gaps between races the 1 month ban thing isn't as big a deal in WEC as in F1
a Point to the RB17 as a Template: the LMDh (As opposed to the LMH regulations) require a LMP2 Chassis and the standardized gearbox+hybrid system. So yeah, Ford will take a Oreca/Ligier/Dallara/Multimatic chassis.
10:28 That won't happen because Ford is building an LMDh car. If they used the RB17, it would have to be built to the LMH specs, which isn't what they're doing. For LMDh, manufacturers are required to choose a chassis from Oreca, Dallara, Ligier, or Multimatic. So, Ford is gonna have to choose between those 4 as a chassis to design their car around
Max being involved with Ford could also open up opportunities for him to be a road course ringer in NASCAR. Could you imagine... It's also worth noting that Red Bull is getting back into NASCAR as a sponsor this year. They're sponsoring a Chevy team, but Monster Energy has been known to sponsor 2-3 cars for different teams with different manufacturers in the same race, so what's stopping Red Bull from doing the same?
21:29 When it comes to the approachability of differing motorsports disciplines, there's an analogy I once heard that goes something like this: Formula One = Champagne and caviar IndyCar = Wine and cheese NASCAR = Beer and bratwurst When it comes to WEC and IMSA, they fall pretty firmly in the middle ground that IndyCar occupies, and an apt comparison would be to gourmet burgers and craft beer.
RB17, Valkyrie, AMG One, and to a lesser extend 499p all exist thanks to the budget cap. Teams put their F1 personnel on non F1 projects in order to retain them.
All of my F1 news comes through you. Yes you have bias. But you do a good job not mixing the facts with your opinions. Or muddying the waters of the facts with speculation.
I think we car enthusiasts can be a bit too cautious when gauging how adaptable a concept car is to anything because of how often the concept car never sees the light of day at all. Realistically, the RB17 is probably close ENOUGH to WEC standards that the design concept is plenty usable. Now ofc there would be major handling changes with those adaptations as they'd likely have to change things like the suspension system, but as a chassis I'm very confident that the RB17 has the potential to be a rather competitive platform should Ford work something out to use it.
While I don’t think ford would use the RB17 much as a template given it’s based on LMH and not LMDh (yes there’s a difference) I would love them to bring the V10 to WEC. (Hopefully they also join IMSA too.)
Multimatic runs Fords IMSA GT3 teams so I just figured out of the 4 LMdH chassis suppliers it would be Multimatic, the same chassis that Porsche uses for the 963, both Acura and Alpine already use the Oreca chassis, even though they run in different championships
As soon as Lance finally admits that he doesn’t want to be in F1 (as is apparent the the whole world), Lawrence will sell to Aramco. Probably making about a billion in the deal.
11:20 Personally, I think that Ford will partner up with Multimatic in terms of chasis and other techincal aspects same as Porsche's LMDh. Multimatic and Ford had been partners since the return of the Ford GT back to Le Mans and as far as I know, the LMDh regulation mandates that manufactures must pick one of the chasis providers to use as a template/body work for the car (i.e., Dallara and Cadillac, Oreca and Acura, and Ligier & Lamborghini). On the powertrain side of things though, I believe that Ford will use the Ford RedBull Powertrain V6 hybrid as the powerplant of upcoming Hypercar. It would be far more logical since the LMDh/LMh aren't far off from one another in terms of speed and capabilities. Ford and RedBull could gain valuable data in putting their newly developed powertrain into high stress environment such as Daytona, Sebring, Spa, and Le Mans. The information regarding the powertrain's performance could be usefull on further improving their powertrain dedicated for F1 to catch up to fellow competitors. That's my take really, sorry if I geeked out too much haha
Just because Ford's own American Football team the Detroit Lions lost their playoff game....Ford has gone insane and spend more on their racing programs....
Meanwhile, if FIA are really gonna enforce Article12.2.1, the best job in F1 will be VCARB/RB reserve driver. No way that the Tsunoda/Hadjar duo won’t get penalized.
All this Red Bull news makes me feel like they’re trying to secure as much as they can before possibly having a terrible season. Are they this worried about their future. Cause if they had confidence in their car, Max wouldn’t leave.
Bro, serious...Max owns a Valkyrie!!!! How did you miss that??? Imagine fielding his own chassis that's been seen on the roads of Monaco :) I'd be surprised if their road car actually IS the race hypercar, though.
Verstappen is chased by the same demon that Hamilton and Alonso have, either Norris or Piastri, I'll be nice and add Leclerc will win a championship or multiple championships in the next few years, and Verstappen won his last one last year, that'll keep him around F1 till he's 40, MARK MY WORDS.
Disagree, keep in mind Alonso did do WEC and indycar before coming back but Max will go to other series eventually he has a huge desire to do endurance racing, many other drivers are just F1 or bust though.
Piastri and Norris are both bums compared to Max, same as Leclerc lmfao. Neither of them has any chance of ever beating Max in comparable machinery over a season
@DabDabGoose I'll give Verstappen credit, if he gets in bed with Ford for Hypercar and races at Lemans which always is open to F1 drivers, he'll be beloved in the United States which in a way it's his last hurdle.
@ If you see what Verstappen does in his spare time it's hard to not see him doing Le mans at some point, he even drove an IMSA Acura LMD-H car last year when he was in US last, he badly wants to do endurance racing.
4:33 @LawVS you're always going to hear teams complain about BOP, it's just the name of the game. The BOP does work, teams run very closely, and that's the point. It's the teams job to always make a stink when they get the short end of the stick 🤷🏼♂️
You're "hyper" focused on the hypercar class. Max wants his own GT3 team. His name is on the car of his manager's son in DTM (GT3 cars). Max tested the car to help them, and see where his money goes. Ford doesn't need a hypercar chassis to be in WEC. They're a multi winner in GTs.
BIG MAX FAN if he leaves f1 I won’t be sad, but if he stops racing then I’ll be sad. I can’t wait to see him try different motorsports. He might even race on less than 4 wheels 😁
you are on to something. but I think you are wrong. This could be either redbull and ford exiting F1 altogether to start a WEC/Lemans team. or they build Verstappen a WEC team and he leaves F1. but still races for redbull/ford in the WEC team, and redbull/ford races in F1 and WEC
Honestly Cadillac is confusing as a brand, in America you hear Cadillac and think luxury. In recent decades they have been pushing for performance. Now their cars are confused mix of luxury and performance and do neither well. Wish they would have actual luxury models and actual performance models, would make more sense.
So if verstappen swears against the fia he gets banned by the fia tsunoda goes to Red bull and ricciardo is coming back to vcarb so when tsunoda swears against the fia he gets banned by the fia hadjar will go to Red bull while lindblad goes to vcarb its a loophole!!!
Max retiring F1 problem? What problem? He's not retiring anytime soon; words only go so far. Ah, wait, i can see the problem. He is taking all the championships so the brits in the field don't stand a single chance and the only solution is to try and coerce him out of the sport. Yeah, not going to happen, no matter how much you keep talking about it. Max is his own man, he decides, he does not listen to the biased brits and that is exactly why we love him.
I have a feeling that after his spell in sports car racing, max may or may not come back to F1 in his 30s, or even go to indycar and (maybe) win the triple crown, If he does, he will match arguably the greatest racing driver of all time, Graham Hill (only triple crown winner)
This is the most desperate clutching at straws for content I've seen in ages. Aston Martin already race in Le Mans. So do other F1 teams. This is nonsense and has no bearing on Max's decision
Hollywood: "Poor little Ford beat the giant Ferrari" Reality: "Multi-million dollar company won by cheating against a little family owned company like Ferrari was at the time"
RB17 is way too advanced for LMDH. To dumb that design down to race with the plebs that laps like LMP2s of old...pointless, surely? RB17 itself will lap under 3 minutes, I think.

@@Reaz399 bye fangirl 😂... VERSTAPPEN is never winning another championship.
1 Season Max and Alonso is that what I want to see that's it guys!
I am actually hoping Max gets a month suspension . Liam and Yuki round 2 in Red Bulls?
Bop ain't going no where. it's the bread na butter of this format. Also so I think VER could be a Mclaren driver vs. Aston or continued RB driver.
Soooo fore-front of WEC: Ferrari, Toyota, Porsche, Cadillac, Ford, and upcoming Mercedes?
Well Farley did tell the horndog sort this out or lose us, the blue oval pulls some weight.
you are on to something. but I think you are wrong. This could be either redbull and ford exiting F1 altogether to start a WEC/Lemans team. or they build Verstappen a WEC team and he leaves F1. but still races for redbull/ford in the WEC team, and redbull/ford races in F1 and WEC
It is an injustice that Max could be leaving F1 while Lance is still here, absolutely waisting that 2nd Aston Martin seat.
Talk technically dirty to me average badboy ❤
Didn't realize it was the silly season already.
This is all just making Audi's last minute back-out of their LMDh project look more and more silly
"Alongside McLaren" guys McLaren is talking about maybe doing it for years. I believe it when the car hit's the track
I would quite like to see Verstappen in WEC
7:20 my money is on Jos ^^
Nope Ford can't match Astom Martin deal
Ford is bigger than Aston, trust me, they can.
@@F1ll1nTh3Blanks Not really since they make crappy cars inCanada
@@LuteFrontier 😂 okay.
I have a feeling that after his spell in sports car racing, max may or may not come back to F1 in his 30s, or even go to indycar and (maybe) win the triple crown, If he does, he will match arguably the greatest racing driver of all time, Graham Hill (only triple crown winner)
Max will do what Max wants to do
If history suggests anything, it is that Max WILL end up at Ferrari, even if it's for just one season.
Smooth
I spend more time in your attic than with my kids
Being in WEC lets you play with the payroll.
This is the most desperate clutching at straws for content I've seen in ages. Aston Martin already race in Le Mans. So do other F1 teams. This is nonsense and has no bearing on Max's decision
It's just a potential theory. I did say that right at the start.
@@LawVSwhich is totally fine. It’s off-season, news is slow and theories are fun to riff on
Hollywood: "Poor little Ford beat the giant Ferrari"
Reality: "Multi-million dollar company won by cheating against a little family owned company like Ferrari was at the time"
Real smart here.
RB17 is way too advanced for LMDH. To dumb that design down to race with the plebs that laps like LMP2s of old...pointless, surely? RB17 itself will lap under 3 minutes, I think.
