We inherited a third generation cat tree from friends who moved, and decided to update it to suit our cats (and style!) We didn't have to buy anything at all--we used a leftover piece of another cat pole, old curtains that don't fit our house's windows, and mattress protectors we received that don't fit our mattresses. Super happy with the way it turned out! :D

First look inside our house!! (Just a little)
Thanks to our friends for leaving us with their old cat tree! I had a lot of fun (...most of the time) updating it and I love how it turned out. :D
Missed you guys so much
Rachel and j-
*Me clicking at the speed of light*
I’ve gotten the Sakuraco box every month since it first came out. I highly recommend it. Its only traditional snacks which is great.
Rachel I’m jealous of your shorts at 1:15, where did you get them? They look so well fitting!
seeing how much more comfortable Pichi has become with you is just amazing.
Love this genre of Rachel and Jun video where Rachel's just living out her arts and crafts dreams and Jun films cats 😂😂
Is this heaven?
@@RachelandJunAdventures Yes
Jun is living his visual arts dreams by filming cats
I mean, Jun's living his life too
It’s the ultimate combo
Rachel, don't worry about having to re-sew 5 times. Stretch fabric is the bane of the existence of anyone who sews lol
Water soluble tape is your friend!
Yup! Even with an overlock machine it can be a nightmare. 😬
It also has a nap or pile. Think flannel or velvet. Sewing fabric fuzzy sides together will basically never be straight. Sewing a stretch fabric with a nap sounds like a layer to hell.
@@rosettajohnson2826 if there is a lot of fuzz, you can trim some with scissors. Water soluble tape is also a lifesaver. Look up videos on sewing fake fur!
@@thaliacrafts407 Those are some good tips. I might try them. Probably would have also saved Rachel a little bit of time too.
I know you haven't done a house tour video yet, but seeing Haku and Nagi playing in so much space (the blanket scene) was so heartwarming! Congratulations on the new house and I can't wait to see the rest! (Also, I know you guys must be loving the space too! ) I am super excited to see what you did with your yard!
12:04 I love how Nagi's fur seemlessly goes into Pichi's backside, while the dark colored portion of her head is connected to Poki's dark fur. One endless flow of cat without being able to tell where one ends and the other begins.
They're like puzzle pieces.
at first i thought there were only two cats
And her front legs look a bit like Poki’s back legs lol
Nice camouflage tactic
Looking at Pichi now and remembering that scared wild thing warms my heart. Especially in that cat sandwich on the couch. I wish mine were like that, they're the same age and the closest we can get them to sleep together is about ten centimeters away from each other. And I would definitely find a way to screw the cat tree to the wall because that top box feels wobbly and at high-speed bird hunting it might fall over. My bedroom window is by a huge tree where the birds' nest and from spring to fall it's my cats favourite spot and if the windows are open and a bird lands on the windowsill... yeah, there have been some missed jumps and thrown down stuff on the way to a bird.
cat sandwich 😂😂😂
@@cherryr9285 well she looks like quite content slice of ham 😉 anybody would have been in her place
That was my thought when seeing her sandwiched in between the other two and how she let Jun pet her
I knooowww, I'm here crying over her. I'm so happy for her 😭😭😭
My cats are like Juns cats and I'm mixed Japanese. Maybe it's a super power. 🧐
Rachel and Jun’s random diy task videos always bring me joy and a sense of calm. Always a great time to watch and I can’t wait to see your guys new house, it looks fantastic from the glimpses we’ve gotten so far
I honestly get so much personal inspiration in my own life from these videos! They have both opened me up to a different way of living that’s so much more sustainable and cozy! I can’t wait for more of these videos
The progress with Pichi is going well you both are able to pet and get close to her now that's great :)
I actually saw a post that said she'd become a lap cat after the move. :)
Her coat looks fluffier and has more vibrant color too. I’m so happy for Pichi!
For future reference, an erasable pen works wonderfully as a pattern pen. The ink disappears with heat, so you can just iron it when it's cut!
Agreed. Frixion pens (the brand you can buy where I live) work so well. And they disappear even with my iron on the lowest setting.
There are also fabric pens with ink that fades naturally over time! Those are my favorite.
Haku and Nagi walking all over the fabric is giving me “villagers walking where you’re terraforming in animal crossing” vibes
yes lol
neighborhood sims beeing in the way when you style the garden too
That face Rachel makes when she realized something went wrong while sewing is everyone who has ever used a sewing machine😂
That moment you realize you're been seeing without a bottom thread for the past 30 minutes😵
Why patterns have arrows indicating the direction of the nap. I worked at a JoAnn Fabrics for a few years, and I learned so much!
When you're sewing something with a large number of layers, get to the end and think it's perfect, only to look at the other side and see that the bottom layer rode up a bit and got caught intermittently throughout the entire seam.
@@Anonymous-zk7yk Even though it, of course, worked perfectly on your test fabric.
The face I make when sewing usually looks like a hole in the wall with half of a sewing machine poking out. Not sure why…
Haku trying to fit in is so adorable ksndksjkd all his fluff
nice ayaka
Rachel: *Crying in agony over not being able to sew properly*
Jun: Look! Cats!
I love seeing Rachel do DIY and crafts, going full throttle at any project. Jun being supportive in the background, only jumping in if asked for. Lovely.
Yes! Flip flop.
Rachel, this is incredible but I feel your pain! My main entertainment during months of lockdown was creating multiple iterations of an extensive cardboard box junglegym for my cat, including painting, fabric, inbuilt toys etc. I had many of those moments of 'why have I done this?', followed by 'I miss xyz mundane task' 😆
I am so proud of Pichi, that she is feeling safe around you now and being happy in her finally home
so we got a cat house "tour" before the Jun & Rachel's house tour. talk about priority 😎
We bought a cat tower specifically for a maine coon for this exact reason XD We don't have maine coons, but our biggest cat Dave is a big tabby (note - Not fat, big. I use this word on purpose) and with our old cat tree he would look so left out, because anytime he tried to climb it it would either lean or fall down.
Absolutely everything available for cats here seems so tiny when compared to Haku, haha
I recently catsat my in-laws two cats and they weigh put together less than my non-overweight-just-large cat. It looked so funny, tiny cat and HUGE cat.
@@RachelandJunAdventures It would be a good idea to secure the tower to the wall somehow. It seems to wobble a lot. Your cats are big, big boys and it would be terrible if, in the event of an episode of zoomies, the tree fell over. Hitting the glass window, hitting the floor, heck hitting one of the cats. It seems very dangerous as is.
I have a 40lb dumbbell on my cat tree to keep it from tipping. When my cats were younger they'd rocket up and down and scare me.
@@ateisate7270 Same thing with my dad's 2 tiny cats. They look like kittens compared to my big chonky tortie girl even though they are 10 year olds!
Rachel and Jun's DIY videos are the best. Especially because it always ends up with more cat footage than the actual project 😁
The cat tower looks great and I love how much you reused and recycled old stuff! But you may want to secure it to the wall up top with an anchor; it looked a bit wobbly and usually cats prefer more stable stuff to jump to 😊
Yes!
Okay, I’m watching this in my living room and when Jun whistled and called for the cats mine came downstairs in a mad dash! 😂
LOL! Gotta love 'em!
I actually just put new fabric over the old, but your way looks so neat in the end. I would recommend screwing the tree to the wall. My cats knocked over a tree about the same high and they were both just about Poki's size.
Looking forward to the house tour!
I can't tell you how enjoyable this was to watch! I've been super stressed out over my final uni project and tense about it all week, and this video did more to calm me down than anything everything else I've tried. Thank you!
Your house seems lovely, and it's great to see the cat's doing so well!
Good luck on your project!!
@@RachelandJunAdventures Thank you so much!
Sameee, their videos always make me relax, got so excited when I got the notification 😄
Same. 🥰 But also good luck with your project!
good luck! you can do it! just stay focused! :)
I would gladly watch these cats play all day long
Pichi sleeping in a bunch with the other cats 🥹 this makes me so happy!
I'm so happy to see Pichi not shying away anymore from you. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Congratulations on making such a totally beautiful cat tree. It was a successful project.
I've been watching you guys for years. It's awesome to see you guys have an awesome space where you don't have to worry about neighbors.
I STILL have an "oh crap!" moment every time something hits the floor hard at night. I'm so, so happy we don't have to be quiet anymore and I don't have to fret over our cats yelling. There's actually a neighborhood cat outside that's just as loud as Poki when she wants to be fed, haha
@@RachelandJunAdventures That’s quite cute to se street cats like Poki can still scream so loud
@@RachelandJunAdventures Sounds like a potential duet in the making 🤭
awe, it's so nice to see Pichi being so relaxed with you, and she used to such a tiny terrified bby ...
and it does seem to be just universal for cats to try to mess up the fabric you just laid out flat. I only have one cat, but he sure does try to make up for his nonexistent siblings not being there to help him. I have many pictures of him being an adorable nuisance, and have had many mini-panics from him trying to pull out pins, because he's certain they'd make great toys. As would the fabric scissors, obviously
Might I suggest a magnet for the next project that involves removing staples? Once they're pulled, just stick them to the magnet and you'll be less likely to lose them.
ooh, so smart! I should get one of those sewing pin magnets for my pushpins- it'd make putting up and taking down student work easier!
@@j.wa.1061 Definitely! You can also wrap a baggie around the magnet so you don't have to pick the pins off individually. Just unfold the baggie and there you go. Carefully, of course. One of my elementary school teachers did that when she changed the decorations on her bulletin board for the seasons and holidays.
@@j.wa.1061 you can also get a nail/ screw magnets from the hardware store. It was cheaper where I live
Ohmygosh I thought that was a big cat tower until you brought Haku!! He's a big boi ♡ I can't wait to see more of your house and....more cat items 😆
I usually don't comment on your videos, just bask in your cats but I love the cat tree! (that is an insane amount of staples though!) As someone who is more familiar with different kinds of fabrics: what you described is exactly the problem! Little hairs in different directions move your low and upper half of the fabric. We have a lot of tricks for this: Pfaff has upper and lower transport on their sewing machines so this won't happen. This might be a bit much for you though because it is expensive! What you want is seam tape: it anchors the lower and upper hairs of the fabric. To glue the fabric down on the base use contact glue spray for furniture. That is my technical talk....but lets be honest I am here for the cats ( and I cannot wait for a tour of your new home!)
You have some of the happiest most content cats I have ever seen.
rachel: **suffering from the staples**
background music: **happy vibes only** 😎
6:30 Soo satisfying how Pichi's paws matches with the music
Gotta love cats! "If I fits, I sits". lol 💖 Thank you guys for taking the time to make a video!! ✨
I'm so proud of how far Pichi has come since they first got her. Great cat owners right there to be able to be patient with her needing time to learn to trust 🥺 she's adorable
Rachel this is beautiful! What amazing craftsmanship! Love how you promote reusing items and giving them beautiful new life!
Just curious, since Jun mentioned the home loan during the Sakura co advert & since I’m in a similar stage in life, are student loans in Japan as much of a thing? Student loans can hold some back from buying a home here in the USA. Was there a difference in your school loans vs Jun’s? Hope it’s not too intrusive to ask, just love seeing your all’s dreams come true with your new home and garden & would love to hear what home ownership and financial life in Japan differs from life in the USA since you have experience in both locations.
Thanks for sharing your lives with us! My husband is allergic so I love seeing your beautiful cats!
University is a bit cheaper here than America. I only had to pay my first year and half-ish of tuition and then the military paid the rest for me, and Jun's parents were able to pay for his college, so we very fortunately didn't have any student debt going into this. I had to look it up but it seems like student loans here (at least the loans that do accumulate interest after graduating) tend to, like home loans, have incredibly low interest rates. Less than 1%. Since I don't have direct experience with this, take that with a grain of salt.
But home loans we do have direct experience with, and they're made to be affordable and easy to get. Interest rates can be less than 1%. Ours is only slightly higher since we opted for loan insurance (meaning if something happens to Jun the remainder of the loan will be forgiven and I would own the home as-is). There are a lot of laws in place to make sure that housing is easily available and affordable to everyone.
@@RachelandJunAdventures thank you so much for the info! How interesting and awesome how Japan looks out for its citizens.
Aw, Pichi looks so much more relaxed.
i'm amazed at the amount of things rachel was able to recycle for this project! i try to set aside recyclable materials too but i eventually lose them or can't find them when the need arises so i just end up buying. kudos to them for the amazing work!
I love how at 11:54 they laid down in perfect shading/ombré fashion. Well executed, Poki, Pichi, and Nagi!
It will never fail to amaze me how, even when a cat looks large, they can squeeze themselves into such spaces. x3
can't wait to see everything when it is done! Been loving the Pichi updates on twitter they have been adorable
It's good to see them along with their cats. Can't wait to see their new home.
Rachel, OMG I am obsessed with your bulbasaur pencil sharpener
I want one so bad
As a cat-mom who sews and is friends with other cat-moms who sew... we have come up with a 'cat-logic' explanation for why cats simply Must take up residence on any fabric, paper, (or anything else really) that you are working on. Cats in their omniscient wisdom, can tell when and where there are random spots of antigravity. Cats being immune to this phenomena help their humans, by holding things down to keep them from floating away... also, as it's cat-logic humans will never truly understand it, but just accepting it makes life with fuzzy little people easier. (more fun too).
And when the world needed them most, they returned!
I love how all the kitties snuggle together now 🥺. Great job on the tree, and I can't wait for the house/ garden tour!
Beautiful, hand stitched outside with hot glued inside is such a mood. I feel ya on that.
I won't ever be buying one of those Sakura Co boxes (I'm too sensitive to sugar) but I genuinely love watching Rachel and Jun just unboxing and getting super excited over their favorite snacks
If I was a cat I would be happy to sit in that beautiful tower and look out those gorgeous big windows onto that stunning garden, too! The cats seem so incredibly fulfilled, well done you guys (especially Rachel for persisting with that very tricky fabric).
I love seeing Pichi so comfortable with the house and the other cats! So amazing to see. She's come so far ❤️
Love the cuddle puddle of couch kitties!
I love how conscious you are of item value
So happy to see this! My partner was passing by and got excited when he realized it was a Rachel and Jun video because there hadn’t been one in a while (rightfully so). He quickly plopped himself down to enjoy your video too. Hope you’re settling in well!
Seeing all the fluffies trying the cat tree made me squeak with joy 🥹
It makes me happy to see Pichi so at home with you all, crawling into boxes, letting you pet her, joining kitty-cuddle-puddles ❤️
She is so adorable.
That bit during and after pulling out the staples was so freaking relatable. "I hate this! .... Okay, now I miss it."
Missed seeing the six of you. It's great to see how relaxed Pichi is now. I can't wait for a house and garden tour.
It warms my heart to see Pichi not only smooshed between the boy cats, but blissfully napping near Rachel on the couch. I remember hot she was before she settled in and it's good to see she's fully accepted the family.
Pichi's grown so much closer to all of you that's amazing to see, you did well both with her and the tower
Sewing tips for Rachel - if your seam doesn't have to be strait, a z stitch is more forgiving and will also provide stretch. Other reasons you end up having issues with the seam can be if you have the incorrect needle for the type of fabric you are using (this can make a surprisingly big difference). But you are also correct about the grain - I prefer to cut in the direction of the cross grain personally as it is a nice balance between strait and bias grain challenges.
BUT I LOVE YOUR VIEDOS they make me happy. :) thank you
I just started watching this video, and honestly so far, I absolutely adore the clock you have hanging up showing that it was 9:00pm on Day Three. It’s just so lovely!!! Can’t wait to see the house tour!!! 🤗
The vibe of this video is so light. Seriously, I can feel how warm and full of love your home has become.
"I like doing tiny, tedious things with my hands"
My gal, have you ever heard of cross stitch?! So many cool patterns of just doing tiny, tedious things with your hands!
I love watching your DIY videos. We all know Rachel will at some point reach the phase of a tedious process driving her crazy but she's too stubborn to stop 😅 *memories of Rachel fixing the spring in the chair*
I can't wait to see the house tour.
Never clicked a video so fast! Such a wholesome update. Also, it’s amazing to see how far Pichi has come! Can’t wait to see the garden and house tour :D
ahh so excited for a video upload! i just wanted to comment how much happiness and comfort you guys have brought me as i’ve been battling cancer. every video brings me so much comfort and warmth i really need in these times. thank you for all your hard work!
I also love how Jun speaks for the curious cats, "Ohhhh ...oh, oh?" 😆
Y’all splitting snacks the way you do is couples goals 😂😂😂
Ahh this is the perfect video to destress during school finals. Arts, crafts, kitties :) I should do this for my cats, they’re significantly larger than their cat tree now
How Rachel just cut and sew everything without really looking at the measurements is quite entertaining and amusing lol
I love you guys and cats! I have been watching you guys for YEARS! You guys have inspired me to adopt a cat last year! 😸🥰
Do not worry about slow! Sewing slow isn't bad. It lets you be more precise (when you don't have a fabric that refuses to cooperate)
The way I'm so excited to see a house tour soon! I've been watching your videos since you were in the *old old* apartement lol. So to see you guys buy a house and all that is so exciting. It's so great watching your favorite youtubers grow💜
Aww!!! The boys look like they’re really enjoying the new tree! Great effort, Rachel! 😁
Over 100 trees?! 😍 can't wait to see the garden. Very good idea to upcycle a cat tree. Ours look ragged lol
11:55 Remember when Nagi used to stalk Pichi? and now they're napping together!
Aww seeing the boys help you with the fabric is so cute! It's really heartwarming to see how comfortable Pichi is too.💕
This project seems like something I would end up doing (and pulling my hair out in the process). 😅
Whaaaaa! I missed you guys so much! Also all the cats! Poki, Haku, Nagi and Pichi! Hope you guys are well and doing great!
I've missed y'all ❣️❣️ I've been taking care of my own life since surgeries and Hurricane Ian . Feels SOOOO nice to view your videos again!!❤
I'm now building a cat tower for my Leo so he can feel safe away from coyotes here.
Blessings to you all 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💖💖💖💖💖💖
The kitties messing around with Rachel's work is hilarious! 😂 And oh, its so good to see Pichi already sitting beside Rachel. She's really come a long way. ❤️
I am so happy to see a new video from you and the kitties 😻!
Well we’ll if it isn’t my favorite UA-camrs . You guys may not upload often but the wait is always worth it . I’d rather have quality content than frequent content . Thanks for always sharing a little bit of your life with us, it’s always a pleasure to experience a small part of it . Much love to you both and the kitties . 🐱 💕
Look at how far Pichi has come! So much more confident and comfortable around people and other cats now!! 🥺🥺🥺❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The cat cuddle puddle on the sofa was adorable! 🥰
First I thought you would destroy your extremly beautiful natural cat tree but I like that you redid this tree instead of trashing it. And I´m amazed how much Pichi has changed and how much she trusts you.
The Sakureco box looks so fun! It's such a good idea and I love watching you open them. I can't order them cause I'm vegan but I wholeheartedly support you doing your fun sponsorships with them! Can't wait to see the house 😊
All the cats need like a DIY outfit or little hard hats because they just love helping out with everything LOL
The cats look like they have more energy now! I'm glad all your hard work in these past year has led to an even happier cat family.
I love the snack negotiations, very realistic to a long term relationship
Omg the was a beautiful transformation. I got to hand it to you Rachel. Your patience and effort didn't go unnoticed by your babies. Now if only I had the patience to do that with my cat tree 😂
As someone who’s worked with stretchy fabrics before when doing cosplay, Rachel, I FEEL YOUR PAIN… They’re SO ANNOYING to sew! I usually try to find the direction the fabric doesn’t stretch (it’s usually on the diagonal of the weave) and AGGRESSIVELY hold the fabric in place using that axis when I’m sewing. The other thing that’s often useful is the back-and-forth wider zigzag stitch (I forget the technical name for it lmao), if your sewing machine has a setting for that. Awesome job though!! Mad respect, and also there’s never ANY shame in using the hot glue gun, LOL ❤️
rachel complaining about the fabric meanwhile jun just does a slow pan to the cats grooming each other hahaha
Rachel, you did a great job! The light blue fabric looks so nice with the outdoor greenery.
Good work Rachel, a lot of people would have given up on the task by the 5th re-sewing. But you persevered!!
I missed you guys soo much. I love how you guys interact with each other and loving these videos. Much love.
Rachel's reaction to the crooked stitch is so relatable 😭😭😭😭
Kitties are so helpful. 🐱🤣
DIY stresses me out sooo much and seeing other people do it makes me tense as well. BUT this video still gave me a sense of calm joy, because it's so nice to see you two putting time, care and love into creating such a beautiful space for your family.
7:46 idk why but I thought it was hilarious how Jun slowly panned away to the cats as Rachel was talking 😂
