Interesting you mentioned Melbury Place. I immediately remembered the Melbury Marketplace on the corner of Melbury Place and Kensington High Street. The reason I remember it so well is due to Lord Melbury, the character in an episode of Fawlty Towers! Lord Melbury presented himself as very upper class but turned out to be a confidence trickster, having deposited his briefcase of "valuables" for safekeeping. Basil was none too impressed when he later discovered the briefcase was full of bricks and took his anger out on "Lord" Melbury in the closing scenes whilst he was being arrested, all in full view of other guests checking in. Every time I pass by the Melbury Marketplace on Kensington High Street, I remember that eposide! It always makes me feel like going in there and calling out "Hello Lord Melbury. Any valuables to deposit? Any bricks?" :)

    Hello Angela
Loved the walk. Our first visited to London we stayed at a hotel on Kensington high street. Holland Park home of Eddy from ABFAB. We have stayed in Bayswater and Lancaster gate area and have walked this area many times. You guys walked right by the first Bryon's on Kensington high street which went to in 09. It is now a street burger. Loved hearing about the history of the area. Thanks for the video. Take care Chris and Sandra of Canada.

Well Hello Angela. How are you and family? Mum and I were in the area this past Friday. Attended the Mind, Body & Spirit Show at Olympia and then caught the bus to Sloane Square in order to see Chelsea in Bloom and then walk to see Belgravia in Bloom. Saw all the flower displays at Sloane Square, Duke of York's Square and Eccleston Yards. Chelsea was a lot more crowded than Belgravia, likely also because the nearby Chelsea Flower Show was on. We then walked to Harrods and although we were well aware it would be closed by then, we wanted to see the window displays. From there we took the tube back to Hammersmith where we had parked at the Livat. Got back to Canterbury at 1:30 am, having got up the previous morning at 4:15 am to head to London. It was a long day. Plus the next morning we got up early to go to a local car show!
Anyhow, looking forward to seeing your latest video. We've been into Holland Park itself some time ago as well as visited the adjacent London Design Museum at least twice. But we've not as yet ventured into the Millionaires Row, though I'm well aware of it. Your video will be a very useful homework for us on a future visit and as you know, we are at London Olympia several times a year for various events. Speaking of which, we are looking forward to the completion of the Olympia expansion but it may be another two years or so.
Just realized your video is 1 hour long. This should be very interesting. We are also playing catch up with the latest two videos from "A certain other Walker that's Watched". 😊
Anyhow, Thank You for this. Take care and speak soon.🇬🇧 🇨🇦

My comments wouldn't be complete without a comparison with my other homeland of the Pacific Northwest right? Ok, here goes and this one was prompted by your title:
On the Eastside of Greater Seattle (3 hours south of Vancouver, Canada), is the area called Medina which is famous for its "Billionaires' Row". Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft as well as Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon each own their mansions on Billionaires Row. It's somewhat different to what you've shown very well in London. Specifically, Medina is more an urban area surrounded by forest and also on the waters edge of Lake Washington.
Mum and I have driven around the area many times and right past the Bill Gates mansion. However, I didn't want to hang around there too long as the police will come and ask what you are doing. In fact, Medina has it's own police department and every single intersection there has video cameras. They record the licence plate of every vehicle at every intersection and the system then immediately checks against a database to see if the vehicle has been marked as suspicious in any way. If so, an alarm is automatically raised with the Medina police and a cruiser is dispatched right away. Also, all video with licence plates is saved for a period of several months.
Regardless of the heavy security monitoring, it's quite an area to drive through. Last time Mum and I were back there earlier this year, we even went into an open house in Medina that was open for the general public, which was quite an experience. Interestingly, the husband and wife realtor were telling us how much they love Vancouver!
A few years ago, we also took a 90 min cruise on Lake Washington on the tour boat that runs from Kirkland Marina just down the road from Medina. One great feature of that cruise is that it sails all along Billionaire Row and we got to see many of these mansions from the water. However, Bill Gates's mansion is hidden by trees. Either way, it was quite an experience! Look up "Argosy Cruises Kirkland WA".
Do also look up "Billionaire Row Medina Washington State" both via Google as well as here in YT.
Re Washington State (or WA as per it's official two letter abbreviation): Not to be confused with Washington DC which is the other side of the USA.
Back in Vancouver, there are quite a few areas for Millionaire homes. Perhaps the best known is a neighbourhood called (rather suitably) British Properties which is up on the North Shore Mountains. Then there's also the Shaughnessy neighbourhood with it's mansions. In fact the CEO of the company I worked for for 20 years lives there. There's also Kerrisdale. And the whole Vancouver West Side is well known for it's multi million dollar homes, especially on the University Endowment Lands or UEL as it's known. You can Google and look up photos of properties in all these various areas.

Thank you so much for all that really interesting information; I think I'll copy it into a document, as we're kind of considering heading to the west coast at some point in the next few years. And what a difference between London and there in terms of the sort of places the rich and famous get to live in!

@@ChattyWalkswithAngela Hello Angela. Oh wow, you are considering a trip to the west coast of North America at some point! Do keep us posted. I'd be happy to give you more tips, having lived in Vancouver for 30 years as well as crossed the border around 400 times into the USA.
Btw there's a Seattle tv program that airs almost every night called Evening Magazine. We get it up in Vancouver as we receive all the Seattle tv stations north of the border. I'm always watching and recording Evening Magazine when I'm there. It's all about interesting things in the Pacific Northwest. Anyhow, there's a regular segment they have on the show called Unreal Estate where they feature multi million dollar homes in the Seattle area, both inside and out. There are many of these segments right here on UA-cam. To view these, search right here in YT for "Evening Magazine Unreal Estate".
Incidentally a few years ago mum and I met the whole team from Evening Magazine. We were at the huge Northwest Flower and Garden Show at the Washington State Convention Center (American spelling there) in downtown Seattle...and bumped into the whole crew, who were there to cover the event for their show that same evening! We had a great chat with them as well as photos with the whole "Team Evening" crew as they call themselves.

      @ibs5080 3 місяці тому

@@ChattyWalkswithAngela Oh and just to add. Here in YT search for "Evening Magazine Sleepless in Seattle". There's a piece they did about the remodelled house boat that was featured in the film many years earlier.
Btw did you know that at one point, that houseboat was bought by a couple that saw the movie, fell in love with both the film and the houseboat and decided they just had to buy it! They move from all the way across the US to buy the houseboat, which is situated on the shores of South Lake Union in Seattle.
