I've lived in Weston all my life, I'm now 50! I used to love going to knightstone swimming pool with my mate! I also loved the grand pier and the old ghost train! I also remember going to Birnbeck pier and crabbing at the end! I've got a few videos on my channel of drone flights in Weston and a couple of Birnbeck pier! Thanks for sharing your video!
@@MillerExplores you’re welcome - I’ll check out the drone footage. I was so surprised to see the colonnade - such a shame that no longer exists. I’m currently working on a 2024 video of Weston 🤩
Thank you for your compilation, it really gave me a warm glow remembering my visits as a child and adult travelling from the midlands before there was ever an M5. If you do more work on this project it may be interesting to more of the then and now maybe fading in and out of the clips. Thanks again
@@martspar9075 glad you enjoyed watching and it brought back some lovely memories. Will definitely think about that. I recently made a short film about what Weston is like today too if you’d like to see what it’s like these days. 😊
I'm so glad I found this! We used to go to Weston in the late 50's and early 60's. I loved every minute, except for the aftermath which came in the form of fairly awful sunburns. I could have been in some of that footage shot in 62 and 63, but we left Bristol for Canada in 64 and I haven't seen Weston since. I'm cracking on for 70 now, so I'm not sure I'll ever walk on those sands again, but this was the next best thing, maybe even better. Thank you so much!
@@jimloth6091 aw thanks so much Jim, glad it brought back so many happy memories for you. I’m currently working on a 2024 video of Weston, which I hope to have finished over the weekend so you might be interested in watching that too 😊
I remember it well, would have been on those beaches during that time period. Day out trips to Weston or Burnham by steam train from Glastonbury station or by coach.
Please post more, my wife & I moved to Weston when we got married in 1978, stayed for 8 years & then moved back to Bristol because of work. We retired back to Weston in 2023 & enjoy the sea front every day rain or shine.
Brilliant. I have some similar 1960's footage which my brother transferred onto a memory stick for me. I think he'd be interested to see this, so I will forward. Such similar scenes. He's also Thunderbird mad, so I wonder if he can remember the little carriage. Great social history footage from a by-gone era. Great to see. I got lost on Weston sea front once. I couldn't find my way back to my family. In those days the beaches used to be jam packed. My mum had to come and collect me from a pick up point after my name was announced over a tannoy.
oh fantastic, old home movies are so precious...although I was very grumpy when dad was filming me as a spotty teenager! It's great that little Thunderbird one. The first one I remember is the Thomas the Tank Engine and the Fire Engine. How old were you when that happened? Not surprised you remember it though! The beach has been really busy over the last couple of weeks when I've been filming for the 2024 version. Got a bit distracted with editing when my dad sent across these clips! haha
lIVING IN THE MIDLANDS , IN THE EARLY 1950'S, FOR OUR HOLIDAYS, WE HAD A CHOICE OF WESTON S MARE, OR NORTH WALES, BOTH THE SAME DISTANCE. IN 1951, HOLIDAYING IN UPHILL NEAR WESTON, WE SAW THE GIANT BRISTOL BRABAZON PLANE , CIRCLING HIGH ABOVE. IT WAS VERY NOISEY, BUT SLOW. IN THE 1960'S, OUR FAMILY MOVED TO BRISTOL, SO WE BECAME VERY FAMILIAR WITH WESTON. FOOTNOTE, HOW ODD IT IS, THAT SO MANY PIER'S AROUND OUR COASTS, GOT BURNT DOWN, WHILE BEING SURROUNDED BY WATER
Great video Nicola! You made me laugh with some of those shots😂 Really interesting about The Beatles spending time there. I grew up in Cardiff so Barry Island , Lavernock and Porthcawl were the places we visited. As an adult lived in Portishead for 15 years and loved going to Weston. The airshows were always a favourite off mine. Thank you and hubby for all your hard work. Your doing great👍
Thanks so much Katrina :) I really appreciate your comment. Yes...a bit windy haha! I gave up in the end and let the dress do its own thing. We visited Barry Island on occasion too. My dad said he has some old cine camera footage by his grandpa, from when he was a boy so I'm looking forward to going through that. I hear it's being developed a lot now, so will have to go back.
Well done Nic👏👏. Loved it all, lush seeing old films of Weston ( as we love weston too) i got a story about the old pier that a elderly man from Weston told us about, so I'll share the story next time we catch up ( if you would like? ) Also can't wait to see the 80's version too 💕xxx

childhood holidays a little later than this (1968-1976) But some nice footage not that far off from how i remember Weston
